2000 Miles From Home! Can We Make It In A 31 Year Old Station Wagon?

- This is the final video of our 7,000 mile road trip around the western United States. We are going on the same trip that my Great Grandparents, Grandparents, Dad, and Uncle went on in 1976. We even bought the same car a Oldsmobile station wagon to make the trip in. We ended up spending a total of 18 days on the road which is the longest trip we have ever been on in our lives. On this last section of the trip we are staring out in Casper Wyoming and we are heading back home east. Along the route we stop at Independence Rock on the Oregon trail, Buffalo Bill Cody's gravesite in Colorado, Argo Gold Mine and Mill, across New Mexico and into Texas to the Cadillac Ranch and the Big Texan steakhouse where we try to eat a 72 ounce steak! Then to the Fort Worth Stockyards, Dealey Plaza where JFK was shot, and on to Vicksburg Mississippi. Can we make it all the way back home in our $2700 31 year old station wagon? Lets find out.

Three things I've learned on this journey of a lifetime:
1. There's too many abandoned buildings in this country!
2. There are too many Dollar General's!

There are definitely not to many DOllar Generals....they provide affordable essentials to everyone in America....just returned from a 5 day trip to gulf shores ALABAMA!!!.....most of my receipts are from the worlds best Dollar Gentral....100 yds from our rental apartment....had everything we ever needed to make it feel like home.
I lost count on how many Dollar General's there are. Especially in my state of Pennsylvania. Almost every cornfield has a Dollar General in the middle of it .

Words can't describe how good of a family you all are. Even with ups and downs, there is no throwing the towel in and giving up is not an option. I once stopped at the Big Texan Restaurant in 2014. I kind of wimped out from taking on the 72 ounce steak challenge and only had 3 6oz steaks. They were great, but eating those steaks and a ton of side dishes kept me fed for almost two days. 😅

We just finished your last video on your 7000 miles journey and enjoyed every moment. Especially for us because we've been to most of the sites you covered when our son was young. I'm amazed at all that you got to see even when covering so many miles each day. Wawa said exactly what I was hoping to hear, that this was a trip that she'll remember all her life. That was the goal Josh! Don't bother to add up the cost. It doesn't matter when you were able to provide a lifetime of memories. Welcome home everyone! This was a joy to see.

I've held off commenting until the last video and all I can say is thank you guys so much. It was an absolute pleasure watching the trip, every family should do something exactly like this at least once. Heck, I'm from Alberta and now have quite a few more places on my bucket list south of the border. Again, thank you so much for taking us along, this was absolutely amazing.
Another great video, the kids admitting things weren’t always as rosy as it appeared on camera ( great editing dad) makes you remember that you’re just like any other family on an extended road trip. You showed us some interesting places, loved the did you just see that from Josh and then you circling back around to show us what you saw. The buffalo were definitely a highlight, but I gotta say when you were at the stockyards and the longhorns were eating at that enclosure I was impressed on how they got their heads and horns between those bars. Still surprised Tosh never had you put a hitch on the wagon and then buy a livestock trailer to haul a bunch of animals back to the farm LOL

I grew up playing Oregon Trail on Apple II computers back in the day. It was awesome hearing your kids arguing about who to play, banker, doctor, etc and Ralphie never making it to Independence Rock LOL!

I rode with a trucker for ten months and i saw the beauty the country has to offer. Arizona is a masterpiece of rocks . Seeing the Colorado river flowing with people in rafts. Every state has its own jewel. Snow on the mountain tops. I saw the sign that said The Grand Canyon but they did not allow tractor trailers on the bridges. The best rest stops where in Texas . Drew's Lens another you tuber has a a series of video of the parks also. I have to say the hours Josh spent editing and putting this family trip together are so worth it.
Heavy nastalgia right now. I grew up in Denver & visited many of the places y'all went. It's been 40 years since I've seen home. 😢

Wow. I just finished binge watching the trip. You and your family did a great job! I learned alot and thought it was the coolest thing ever that you tried to mirror a trip of your grandpa's. Wonderful editing and commentary and it was pretty darn nice to watch how well you all interact as a family. My hubby and I, and our dog recently did a 5000 mile trip on & around Rt 66 so we know what it can be like. I'm pretty sure I saw roadmarks that we had passed earlier this year. When I was a kid in the 1970's, we took an annual road trip vacation, Mom, Dad and 5 kids, always in a Chevy Kingswood Estate wagon! The best memories of my life, but we never made a Western trip. I loved coming along with the Sleeperdude family!
I have just finished watching the entire 2022 and 2023 vacation trips and enjoyed every very minute of it. . I loved seeing the whole family together making memories noone will ever forget . God Bless al y'all

So, I'm 61, but back in the day 😂...this is the vacation we had. I think a Chrysler station wagon (push button gear shift?) & a Bonneville station wagon. Phenomenal experience. My stepdad was from Winterset, Iowa . beautiful country. Oh our travels through the states and Canada! You've blessed your children so much & made it fun.😊

The Vista Cruiser is a cool car my father passed away in 1984 and at that time he had a 1972 Vista Cruiser. Thanks for the memories. There is a balloon festival in Vonore at the Museum on Saturday and Sunday this week, come and see it should be a bunch of hot air balloons and good music a great family event.

Josh, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking me along on this trip. I agree with you about the McMansions and highways in Fort Wort and Dallas and especially the HEAT. We have been baking down here since the first or second week of July, and are still experiencing 101-108 temps. But, it’s home. Of when I was a kid ❤ and my parents would pull out of the road by a chapel and take out the sandwiches and feed 6 children, it's a beautiful feeling watching you do the same thing, your kids will remember this forever.

I rarely comment on a channel, but the scene at 12:15 making bologna sandwiches on white bread in the back of a station wagon on vacation took me right back to my late1960s-1970s childhood! Beautiful! I absolutely love this channel (and Wa's Beetle).

I think if the windows were tinted would've made the trip better for kids in the back. Love seeing how happy the animals were to have you home. Back to normal now. Looking forward to the next one.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed seeing the country with y'all. I checked TH-cam every day for your videos. They were breathtaking on my tv in 4K. You are definitely one of the best families in the USA!
