  • Around 5 AM on June 18th, a Taiwanese fisherman from Penghu spotted and recorded a large China’s People’s Liberation Army submarine surfacing near the Taiwan Strait median line. The submarine was later accompanied by PLA surface ships as it left.
According to the fisherman's records, the submarine surfaced at coordinates 24°00'N, 118°22'E, which is west of the median line of the Taiwan Strait, near the Chinese coast, in waters approximately 45 meters deep.
Once the pictures were uploaded online, military enthusiasts and experts analyzed the visible parts of the submarine and suggested it was likely a Type 094 nuclear-powered submarine from the PLA.
The appearance of a Chinese nuclear submarine in international waters of the Taiwan Strait has sparked significant discussion and speculation.

@@andrewt.5567 In water of only 45 metres depth, this submarine could probably be seen as well as heard. The close proximity of the bottom would actually as a sound reflector, wouldn't it ? In the event of a conflict, a ping in that environment would be an invitation for a swift response, most probably from more than one monitoring vessels or aircraft. On a positive note for the crew, they get to see their families again, unlike a fair number of their fellow submariners recently.

30m and less, is considered SCUBA safe for immediate emergency ascent whilst exhaling with a minimixed risk of suffering light bends within Dive Bottom Time limits (PADI).
Deeper than 30m is requiring spare tanks, and certainly a or multiple rest stop(s) part way up the during the ascent to the surface to allow nitrogen to safely dissolve from the divers blood & circulatiory system.

It’s very doubtful that any Chinese submarine would be transiting undetected in waters only 45 meter deep. The Taiwanese strait has to be swarming with listening devices and other detection equipment. Moreover, I believe that the Chinese subs are also quite a bit behind US and Japanese subs regardless of how new some of China’s subs are. I think it likely that much of their copied equipment, training and maintenance would also be considered substandard by Japanese and American standards.

I strongly suspect the US, Taiwan and Japan’s anti-submarine plans for the Taiwan Strait with rely heavily upon sub-surface drones, mines and torpedoes. They could also easily be used against surface targets. I cannot see any scenario where an invasion fleet from China would not suffer massive damage.

    China 1974.
However, these were poor man’s versions of the US and USSR subs and it wasn’t until the 21st century China started making decent subs.

To my knowledge, the Virginia class submarine from the US, is NOT a 'boomer,' sub. They do not carry nuclear warheads, or ICBMs. The VA class subs are hunters that hunt/ killers. that hunt other subs.
In addition, they are information gatherers, with electronic listening equipment, that can listen to cell phone, radio, and other electronic mediums.
teh VA class sub, might be able to carry tomahawk style cruise missiles, torpedos, and may be fitted with vertical launched missile tubes. (VLS). But those are designed for anti-ship missiles, cruise missiles, like the tomahawk.
These are what Australia wants to purchase from the US.
They are nuclear powered, not nuclear armed... Nuclear arms are an unfounded concern by China.

So out of 55 people on board the CCP submarine 22 were officers 7 were officer "cadets" 9 were non commissioned officers and only 17 sailors doing work... no wonder they sunk with all hands. Meanwhile no one finds this abnormal in the PLAN huh? Keeping in mind those 17 sailors can't all work 247.

might be the PLANavy submarine could stay underwater for 6 to 8 hours before it will resurface.. if they will go beyond 8 hours, it will cause the submarine to drowned itself and will compromised its crew..

    *_It's the BYD-Navy!_*
The CCP's concept of naval operations is little more advanced that what teenage strategy-game players think is advanced military operations. Pair that with the PLA's juvenile methods, an almost nonexistent air force and a corruption-neutered rocket-force, and you get inexperienced armed forces that think they are a match for the world's most experienced, most technically adept and best prepared armed forces
