    You know how you sometimes miss out when you get up early from a movie and don't watch the very very end? Yeah that was me on this episode.The thought never crossed my mind to use my chain breaker to press my master link face plate on 😪. I struggled forever with trying to use a mini vise grip, pliers, etc to try and sandwich it together. Learned a valuable lesson for the future with your tutorial here. But I hope I never have to use it again on my Trails chain none the less since I have my 428VX on as well. Awesome information and tips here. Much thanks.

    Would it not be faster and less work just to pull the new chain through with the old one, I have always don it and no need to remove any thing.

    Thank you for sharing the instruction. Is it possible that you can provide the link for purchasing the chain tool in the video? Thanks a lot.

    I adjusted mine because of too much slack. It was slacking again within a month. I’ve heard the stock chain is junk. I’m going to try and find a better chain.

    Hey man. Great tutorial. Keep it up. Do you think you could do a tutorial on utilizing the space for the aux power next to the speedo?

    i rode harleys HOGS my entire life. and i bought one of these and called it piglet. then a sexy little thing saw it and named mine WILBUR. i had to come home and find out why. and now its wilbur. and when i change my chain and tire i'm going to a 3.0 17 tire and a 15 42 sprockets. that is just a little lower gear than stock but larger tire makes up for it. and if i go to a 14 or 13 tooth on the front i really get a lot lower gear. i plan on doing that next month but at 4000 miles my rear tire is still pretty good and i hate to change something not wore out.

    you could have linked the new chain to the old chain and pulled it around the front sprocket

      Thank you for this comment. I did this and it worked like a charm, and I'm glad because before I tried this I couldn't get that pesky sprocket cover off. This pull-thru approach is much less invasive.

    Great job, I think I would try to order one to fit and not cut the chain, only because of the time. Any thoughts on a made to order and where to get it?

    You Sir, are the first person I've encountered besides myself that opted for an oring chain vs standard on a mini moto! My Monkey chain stretched a bunch, got dirty rapidly, and routinely needed adjustments. I researched the oring options and they were very limited since it was such a small chain. I came across the DID420V. Bought it and a chain breaker from Harbor Freight. Installation was a bit of a bas@#*d as I had to fight that master link to get it to sandwich up. Once I was done and my fingers were whooped I was like "Hey, that was nice of DID to give me a free packet of cinnamon roll icing?🤔... then I read the box... it wasn't icing after all and I was supposed to squirt that all over my DRY as a bone master link... me - 🙂😐☹😭😡🤬. So I got to destroy my fingers again taking that link off, icing it up nicely, then fighting with it again. Ugh! Anyways, it was worth the battle. I've only had to adjust the chain twice now throughout 1,600 street miles. Zero rust. I lube and clean it every 300 miles. I did note about a 3mph decrease in speed after installing it though. But I agree 100% with you about trading 3mph for MUUUUCCHH less slack adjustments and cleaning. So I researched what the Trail 125 had a while back and what I found online said it came stock with a size 420 chain. Which is what the Monkey and Super Cub have. I actually even already bought my Trail125 oring to have on hand once it gets here whenever that will be. Its a DID420V. I heard you say the manual says size 428? By chance does it say it accepts 420 and or the 428? Looking at your video before and after it appears your new chain links are larger that the stock one? I think the 428 might be the heavy duty version? Million Dollar Bogan slapped a 428 on his Monkey halfway through his epic ride in the Outback. The mechanic I think had to also replace the sprockets to accommodate the larger 428. Thanks for any info.

      It is a 428 non o-ring.

    What wax lube do you use?

  • @mmaaddict78
    @mmaaddict78 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You do realize that chain "stretch" is from the rollers wearing, not the links actually getting stretched longer from torque or whatever, right? You say it will never stretch, but it will. Especially if you ride in very dusty conditions. Dirt will permeate the X-ring or O-ring and it will wear the rollers down over time. The stock chain with regular lube is more than enough for this type of machine.

      Appreciate your input. The 428 VX has a Tensile strength of 7420, the stock OEM 428HD has a tensile strength of 5250. The higher T strength has a much greater wear resistense.The pins on the VX are .197, the OEM is .177. The Chain Life Index on the VX is 2700, the OEM is 100. The seals on the VX virtually eliminate the abrasion inside the pin, the OEM is completely open to the environment-sand dust, etc. Therefore, abrasion is prevalent. Yes, PIN wear AND Plate wear are what create the 'stretch' of the chain, the wear is caused by abrasion(wear). The VX chain installed on this bike with proper maintenance will outlast the stock by many many times. Even on this new bike, owners are complaining of stretch at less than 500 miles with OEM.

    If the increased friction of the O-ring affects performance, it will be seen in top speed.
    Did you measure your bike's top speed before and after the chain upgrade?

      Believe it or not, I did a run with the phone app GPS and the OEM speedo and OEM chain...my top speed was 56 mph!! Great idea. I'll do it again with the vx and post it up.

      @@motorcyleadventuringwithmi2778 - The idea of a non-messy chain sounds great. How often do you clean and/or wax the chain?

    • @motorcyleadventuringwithmi2778
      @motorcyleadventuringwithmi2778  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daveinwla6360 i clean it after rain, mud, lots of sand, ets. With the center stand it makes it a really simple 60 second job. In normal riding, i clean it about once a month if im riding it a lot. If u start using the spray wax, you will notice the chain stays a lot cleaner and doesnt attract nearly the same amount of crud.
