Seeing EA get exclusive rights, shutting Papyrus out only to have iRacing take it back about two decades later is hilarious considering their roots. As EmpLemon put it "The funny thing about NASCAR is if you watch long enough, everything always comes full circle." I actually got this game in the box from a Goodwill and never tried it for myself, and now I'm curious.
Glad to see this game getting coverage. Would ARCA Sim Racing 08 be next on your list? I have a copy of it which I can distribute to the internet. I haven't seen any downloads for it ANYWHERE, so it's a rarity of its own. Good video!
@@waterfelonThat's right, ASRX came around 2011 after The Sim Factory seemingly vanished... Which is a real shame, cause they just completely abandoned ARCA. The problem with offline racing in ASRX is rather big, the AI is too stiff, they stick to two lanes, have odd racing lines, check up quite badly, can't be knocked off easily, never makes mistakes, bump drafting is broken I think? Could be wrong. Also no liveries. The problems are bountiful in ASRX. I believe it's because of the many updates to the physics of the cars after 2011 up to today, and obviously because it's heavily online dependant. The liveries not showing up is to allow for custom skins online. It CAN be fixed though, by going into the cars folder in gamedata, and tweaking the .veh file with notepad and writing the correct name of the .dds livery in the folder. This is long and tedious. I've done it and even then not happy with racing with AI in ASRX, thus I started looking for the original game, which is miles better.
@@dennisbowen452 definitely. I found the original game in its v1.100 state, that means, the retail version as it shipped way back in march 2008. Last night I found additional patches made throughout 2008 that add some never-before-seen tracks and carsets, aswell as general updates and fixes. For now though, you can download the original through my channel and the latest video I made about ARCA
Thank you so much for making this video, as well as providing a download link for us. This was *the* game that got me into NASCAR when I was 7 years old, after receiving it along with a Logitech USB NASCAR-branded wheel & pedals for Christmas. I spent God-knows how many hours on it, and it taught me the ins & outs of what would later become my favorite sport. I bought Chase For The Cup in 2015 when I began my PS2 collection, but it's never quite felt the same for me. As such, it really irks me that NSR never got the recognition or third-party mods it deserved until recently, seeing as NR2003 and Chase For The Cup have always overshadowed this game. When I get some free time, I'd like to have some fun with this along with NFS Underground 2 (something I never got to experience in my childhood) which I also downloaded recently. Thanks!
The NoCD Patch makes it so that NSR does not remember your setups. But this patch is required on modern operating systems. Play the game in a Windows XP virtual machine and it will remember your setup choices until you change series.
I didn’t even know this existed until today but i was at a thrift store and saw Ryan Newman on the cover and bought it. Thank you for the video, now i know what im in for if i try to play it.
when i was trying to download nascar simracing, and when i got to the 4th step, i cant paste the nsr 1000 1029 beta in the install folder because it keeps saying disk 1 storage is full, can somebody help me with this please!
It’s a shame this concept didn’t work out, because a NASCAR sim with a properly fleshed-out career mode seems like a really fun idea. As much as I love NR2003, its lack of an in-game career mode means it’s not much more than a racing sandbox (though, don’t get me wrong, it’s *VERY* good at being that).

Not only that, but the monster devs from d2d are owned by iracing so we are seeing best of both worlds

I tried a download of this about 2.5 yrs ago and I think the file was able to open the game but not play. Would love to see it played!

Great video man! Didn’t even know this game existed. Really interesting that it’s so similar to the console game in some ways.

classic. my first and only nascar sim
I LOVED this game growing up I won't lie.
I'm glad to see NASCAR gaming is back in the hands of a company that is actually capable of making a sim racer. Question is will they?

Goofy to think about, but the way the AI is kind of like how Nascar 08 and 09 is.
I was only able to get it working with the keyboard. Anyone else able to get it running with a generic pc game controller or xbox controller?
Great video!
Can you do a dooper formula nratings tutorial for nr2003?
I recommend watching this video. Should walk you through using nratings
