Fr, even the ones offering genuine critique are missing the point I think. High schoolers aren't playing stuff like this with the intention to get better at it. They aren't grinding reps of jig 2 to eliminate all rim clicks and tempo fluctuation. They're just playing it to get hype at a pep rally, and that's good enough for most of them and their audience. The students who are personally more motivated to get better practice more individually, but insisting that level of dedication from the whole line just wouldn't work.

It’s really not that insane of a tenor part tho. Just straight 16ths patterns around the drums with nothing crazy. If anything it would be a good warmup exercise

Pep rallies are fun when you’re going against different grades. I remember the spirit stick one where whoever has the most spirit gets it. My very first pep rally in high-school was when I was in my junior year. As juniors, my class was the most fun and we went all out for the stick, but mainly just had fun that day. I remember when we were seniors it was a competition between us and the sophomores. We obviously won when it was our turn to do the chant and shout, but some of the faculty were thinking about giving it to the sophomores seeing as we won it last year, but come on if they really wanted it they had to earn it. In the end, it was given to us and I was glad because for (one)we were seniors of course we were the most hyped. (Two) We were gonna be the first graduating class of that high school we wanted to leave an impression and (three) we were honestly the most brought together class of that school and supported each other the most. I love my class and miss the memories I made with them.
Third year college student here; i miss those days of being a high schooler in the drumline. The hype we made for our school was one of the greatest feelings ever

I loved it when the football team would come by after a big win and do a shoutout for us in the stands. We would play a big fanfare and they would come by and the whole stadium would get hype. Shit some of the best days were late Friday night lights.
I remember the first time in the drumline played this at a game, the entire crowd just stared at the section leader play "Mary Had A Little Lamb", totally confused then get super hyped when the beat dropped.
Honestly I want to play my clarinet more than percussion because my band teacher pushed me to do it. Anytime I ask him what i can work on he says anxiety... he honestly is the best band teacher and he always makes me want to play more. Thank you Mr Nason

I was fortunate to go to a school that was super into the band as well as the football team. Honestly the best comradery I had during my senior year.
