    Lots of good opinions here... which is your favorite? Are you team Scorpion Crawler or team Comancheep? And why?

      Both jeeps are awesome...
      I like the scorpion.if you only keep one .. you got more time and nice parts in that beast
      Tha commancheap is only a 2 seater and is a little rougher looking but still bad ass :)

      It's all a matter of personal preference. I like the Comancheep because I grew up driving small pickups like the old 80s chevy S10s and Ford Rangers. So I would be at home with the heavily modified MJ. (^_^)

      Man that is a hard one... I would say the Comancheep but I would want to add some skins oner the backend just for looks.

      The scorpion suspension is much more modernized... With that being said, how much breakage have you gotten from the front tj 44 and the rear xj 44? A 39 is a big tire for that small of an axle

    Scorpion crawler, I love the 4.0 for raw torque and simplicity to work on at home nothing against the LS but 4.0l is what I have had 5 times over and has never given me more than I can chew as far as repairing goes. Thanks for the awesome coverage you put out here....Dan

    I think the scorpion crawler would be my weapon of choice because of the versatility. Both builds are great, but I think you just can’t beat the fun factor of the scorpion crawler.

    Scorpion mainly because of the double triangulated 4 link front and rear as well as the ori struts. Also seats 4 or has more room for storage.

    Scorpion... lower center of gravity, more seating, easier to control power, better ground clearance.... I could go on

    I enjoyed both builds, and think they've got there own personality. No matter which one your wheeling at any given moment your going to find yourself saying the other could have done it better. Wether its weight, wheelbase, tire size, motor or suspension. Keep it up Matt. 👍👍

    Hey, Matt. Thanks for sharing your observations about the Comancheep. Looks like you had a lot of great fun in Moab.
    I'd go with the 4 seater. Unless i had a dedicated single seat rock bouncer style rig.

  • @Khorsathedark
    @Khorsathedark 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Scorpion Crawler. Something about it just speaks to me. Its better looking, the half ton axles don't seem to have been a problem so far. I really like the 4.0 engine, but I like the LS as well so that is kind of a wash. It would be a closer decision between the two if you had the bed still on the Comanche.

  • @ggfleadguitar14

    Gotta go with the Scorpion Crawler! While the Comancheap is super cool I love the scorpion for its narrow 44s and 4.0 power. Dare to be different!

    Hey Matt!
    I like a little of both... hear is why:
    - Scorpion Crawler because of the 'Family friendly' seating and the simplicity of the stocking drivetrain.
    - Comancheep because of the power of the LS and the enclosed cab. I wheel near Jamestown, TN, and around middle TN... love having AC and not being covered in mud.

  • @oldtimer4567
    @oldtimer4567 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd have to pick the scorpion. That being said, if/when you plate the front leafspring mounts on the comancheep, go ahead & fabricate in a roller mount & add some heavy duty rollers, (which you may have to custom fabricate, but I'm confident that you can!). That may allow it to "roll up" an obstacle enough for the tires to contact & start their approach.

  • @onetruebob_tj
    @onetruebob_tj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Scorpion. Prefer the cage and suspension setup. Hard to pass up a LS powered rig, but that's doable in the Scorpion at some point down the road. Hint. Hint.
    Either way you slice it, you did a fantastic build on both rigs. I'd be happy to own either one.

  • @MrMoxes
    @MrMoxes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'd choose the Scorpion. Mostly because I feel like a lot more work went into building it. A labor of love so to speak. Plus the tried & true 4.0. I do appreciate a classic like the Comanche though.

    They are both awesome machines. The scorpion in first place you got more money invested on front suspension and you can ride more people on it. The comanchep ones you fix all those detail's will be a beast.

  • @brandoncox7460
    @brandoncox7460 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I love both of them!! But the 4.0 is imo bullet proof and you really took your time building the scorpion crawler its 100% complete, where as the comancheep was a rushed job, and still has bugs to be worked out like you did on the scorpion . If you spent the same amount of time on both and had all the buds worked out I'd say the comancheep would end up being the better rig because you have learned what works from your previous builds and who doesn't love a v8!

    For your fuel puking issue just add a catch can on the roll bar about half way between the top of the fuel tank and the roofline that way it's still able to breathe but it has an expansion chamber of sorts to hold the excess fuel and when the tank is no longer pressurized it can just dribble back into the tank

  • @JonnyDIY

    Hmm I love the Comacheep, but if I were to have a solely offroad vehicle like yours Id want the Scorpion. I like the Open Doors & Extra Space, Plus all that great Cage Work. Id love the Comancheep more if it still had the Bed on the back :)

    Hey Matt!
    Its Sten in California,
    I like the Scorpion better because it is a 4 seater and has more front clearance. I have a 97 Cherokee too.
    That said, the Comancheep is a tour de force in welding and fabrication. You did very well dude!!

  • @vgullotta
    @vgullotta 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I didn't have my own rig, I would probably choose the scorpion crawler for the extra seating and storage, but since I have a Jeep that has seating for 4, I would choose the Comancheep for the cool factor, cause that beast is friggin cooooooool! Also, Matt, you're a dad, pun is ALWAYS intended! lol

  • @wyattoneable
    @wyattoneable 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    All in all a good run I'd say. For it's first time out it did great (from what I could see). You can be proud of a really cool build that works. I'd choose the Comancheep because it has more of an enclosed cab. I'd be riding the trails as a single guy (my wife would never come to ride) so having the 4 seats would be a waste to me. I also like the idea of the one ton axles and the LS motor. I do appreciate the videos Matt. It's always fun to stop by the shop.

    for those front leaf spring mounts, weld a plate sideways across the front so it makes a U shape when looking down from the top. That'll be much stronger than welding a doubler on.

    Scorpion- 4.0 (easy for me to work on and tons of spare parts to be found on the trail), No leafs, 4 seats, retained allot of the XJ look, and love the ground clearance the pumpkins have. I would not kick the Comancheep out of bed though, you did an excellent job on it.

    I like the Scorpion. First of all it just looks tough. It has more room and even though I would prefer a V8 over a V6, I'm sure it has enough power to do the job ( I don't remember what the HP was.) But both vehicles are beautiful pieces of work and inspire me to keep working to improve my Jeep.

  • @jimmykosko
    @jimmykosko 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why do I have to choose... lol , you have two different types of Jeep’s that can perform well in almost any conditions. What I like in the scorpion is the extra seats and some room in the back for tools and camping stuff. Also the front end of the scorpion is so much higher to clear and hit the rocks head on. I guess it’s like two different driving styles when approaching rocks but still getting over them. The Cherokee is no slouch in anyway. To me the Cherokee is a great daily rock climbing beast... if there is such a thing. Wow as I write this, it’s hard to really choose which one . Ok .... I can’t choose, I would love to have built both of them...opps you already did... envious no doubt.

    @tymbom60 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems like running some leaves up front with a little bit of lift, maybe 3 or 4 inches, and moving the front mount up and trimming the spring hanger would help your front approach angle, and keep your springs from collapsing...

    Lots of scorpion crawler fans here but I’d have to choose the comanche, does it need a linked front to solve your approach angle issues? Yes, but I have a feeling it will get it in time. Nothing beats an ls and tons. You went everywhere you pointed it on the shakedown run.... with a few tweaks that thing will be unstoppable

    I would choose the Scorpion. The Comanche has no practical value. There is no storage for gear. It is good for day trips only. It also looks light in the rear end. Is that a traction problem, or is it heavier than it looks?

    We.just hauled the tub off out YJ TODAY - our frame is a bit rusty.... might have to fab up a new one.... might do a front bumper like the comancheep...i love it

    I will always be Team Scorpion Crawler.. Nothing wrong with Comancheep, but there were SOOOO many vids on the SC. I felt like I built that thing along side you. haha. Those vids are what made me love this channel!

    • @dougontheotherchannel3078
      @dougontheotherchannel3078 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Additionally, the "why" would be the the SC looks like a Cherokee. I think I remember you saying when you built it that was a goal. When you look at it you know immediately that it is just one badass XJ. AAAAAND you kept the 4.0L. All around, the SC gets the nostalgia factor points for the win

  • @oxulucozcan4923

    Both are built to propose. Both are built with sweat, tear and blood as rust penetrant. Both are unique and both have their one of a kind characters. So, it's just a matter of how many seats you have to have be even happier.
    First Comancheap; and when I have my daughter, it's scorpion. They are both great cars and you're THE builder. Keep up the good work and best for the rest of your life. Cheers

    How about putting hard rubber rollers on the front leaf spring mounts? They would absorb shock and lift the front just enough for the tire to get a grip on the obstacle. They could bolt on so that you could remove them easily.

    Can you get leaf springs with more arch and a shorter front section from the axle to the front hanger? This might solve a few issues, as more clearance and you would have a better approach angle because you could put the hanger behind the bumper instead of under and in front of it. Also if you gusset the spring hangers they would be stronger than flat plate, also with some arch to the spring you could shorten the hanger to get it to ride level and because it would be shorter and closer to the bumper it would be stronger, less leverage would apply on it. Just a couple suggestions and observations, great build and I like that you show what worked and what didn't, not

    Hey Matt, they are both good builds and built for different types of trail riding too. The Scorpion is more of a Family vehicle I think. Whereas the Comancheep is more of a point and go with Comfort. For me, my kids are out of the house so I’d choose the Comancheep for the LS motor, 1tons and Atlas. I can’t remember, does the Comancheep have AC? That would be a bonus!

    Id choose the scorpion, as much as i love v8s and one tons and Comanches, the 4 liter is solid bulletproof motor and with the right drivetrain, and driver behind it, will go over just as much as the Comanche. Ls is overkill if you ask me. Food for thought. Comanche axles and scorpion suspension

  • @RyanWithAviators
    @RyanWithAviators 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Commancheep
    The Commanche because of how it still largely looks like a Commanche.
    I like the Commancheep LS swap, but it looks like more of a hassle than it's worth, and this is coming from someone who loves his V8's.
    I definitely like the full width 1 ton axles.
    I really love the Interior of the Commancheep. It would probably get dirty but it just looks so stylish.
    Scorpion Crawler:
    The ORI struts on the Scorpion are amazing too. I would love those on a built rig.
    The four seats as opposed to the Commacheep's two seats are a major advantage.
    The 4 link front and rear is very good.
    The simple 4.0 inline six is a major pro.
    I would definitely pick the Scorpion Crawler. I think I also appreciate it more because of the many detailed videos you made of the entire Scorpion build.

    I'd have to go with the Comanchee. I really like the profile and size of it, but mostly it's just the headlights. I can't get over how good those headlights look.

    To add another point about the contact with the crank pulley - Your engine is sitting 4-6 inches lower than a normal LS swap in an XJ/MJ. If it was mounted closer to the stock engine location that would have not been an issue.

    both are cool builds but i have two kids that go wheeling with me so the scorpion crawler would be a better match for me......on the side note im starting to 1ton swap my 93 xj alot of it has to do with the videos iv watched from you keep the builds coming

    I'd also have to say the Scorpion, which surprised me because at the start of the build I was expecting to love the Comancheep. But the scorpion has better suspension, better clearance, more room (biased: I like Overland builds) and more functional all around I think. LS swaps are cool but unless it's a buggy designed for speed, sand, or snow I really don't see much gained over a properly geared 4.0. I also like that the scorpion is more true to the original jeep lines, even as a buggy.

    Comanche, I like being able to roll up the windows when it’s cold and muddy. Plus ls and tons are life time parts you can swap from rig to rig as you smash them.

  • @mdingle11

    Love them both, but if it came down to it I'd be taking the scorpion crawler. Reasons being I like bringing people to ride with me, hence why I have a JKU, and I also prefer the suspension setup better. Great videos, keep em coming.

    The Scorpion will always be my favorite. Only because of my passion of XJ's. I have a stroker Jeep inline, that puts out plenty for my build. Also, the Scorpion build was when I started watching.

    GET THOSE 1/2 TONS AND 4.0 IN THE COMANCHEAP since its lighter and run the tons and LS in the SCORPION to better handle the load but other than that they are great builds

    Well, I'd choose my one ton tj that has no entry and exit angles lol. But if i had to choose one of yours, it would be the xj. Because I don't like leaves or the slider box set up on the mj. If the mj had a simple 3 or four link with just coils it would be my first choice.

    Now the reverse valve body can be useful hey? Hardly worth having it all reversed if you can slam reverse out of second. Glad you got is sorted man. I was wondering if you could have used it in Moab?

    Comanche for sure these Colorado hills need more power than clearance. Also Comanches are sweet, love the look. Very unique.

    I think one thing I haven’t noticed in the comments is that it would be an honor to own a Jeep built by Matt himself. Regardless, of which Jeep it is and the bugs it has.
    The Camancheep and the Scorpion Crawler are both two incredible rigs and you can’t sit here and tell me that your own personal rig doesn’t have bugs.
    I know all three of the Jeeps I’ve owned have had bugs.
    My first Wrangler was succumbed to its frame rot and body rot.
    My second Jeep which was my Cherokee had some interior accessory electrical issues. It did have the 5.7 HEMI which was nice but it was to luxuries for its own good.
    The Jeep I currently own has a couple bugs as well.
    I have a bad rear track bar among a few issues.
    My rigs have grown, literally, and financially over the years as I have gotten older and more financially mature.
    Back to the question at hand.
    If I could pick one of the two Jeeps that you have built. I would pick the Scorpion Crawler.
    Quite honestly I miss the Zombie Jeep.
    I miss your old Green Crawler from way back in the day.
    I would pick the Scorpion Crawler because I watched every video in that series, some of them more than once, I was eager to see when you posted a new video.
    I followed that build so much that I found myself having conversations with my Jeep friends about it.
    It became a normal thing for us to talk about.
    I’ve been a fan of your channel for an extremely long time.
    About 5 years to be exact.
    To see where you started and to see where you are now.
    I see the Scorpion Crawler as the Heart and Soul of your channel.
    You built the Crawler YOU always wanted to have.
    Due to your TH-cam Success you made your dreams come true.
    That’s why I would undoubtedly pick the Scorpion Crawler.
    It was made with blood, sweat and tears. It was made from the heart.
    Right down to the Scorpion logo on the back.

    Scorpion crawler; IMHO it’s built better, suspension, cage, looks, yea it could use 1 tons but it hasn’t broke yet and I can’t stand building something with 2 seats. The more friends or family on the trail enjoying it with you the better. Both are very nice and different rigs. Well done sir.

  • @TheBasil36

    Scorpion.
    Seating for 4 is nice, even if it’s just used as storage
    You can always LS swap the scorpion or upgrade axles
    Honestly Comanche driveline in the Scorpion, 1 ton and done!

    Thanks for your fine videos. I have a question for you. Can you install some kind of outboard or Jet Ski jet or jets on a Jeep Cherokee? I picture it aft with a scoop to supercharge water into the impellers. This way you go into the river and get that thing pushing water to propel you along with the 4x4.

  • @metalfruttolo9855
    @metalfruttolo9855 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Both awesome rigs but I'd choose the comancheep, firstly for the style as it looks awesome, then bigger tyres, bigger engine, closed cab, it just needs to be linked up front to be perfect imo! I guess it comes down to what you are doing, if you wheel somewhere far from your camp and need a lot of stuff then the scorpion is better, but for short range rock trails the comanche would surely be my choice

  • @gkmbll840
    @gkmbll840 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’d have to roll with the Scorpion. Because-better seating for family entertainment, drivability of drivetrain, suspension and approach angle clearance ( as you described ). That said, I love the theme of the Comancheep build, cheap being the key. Being the DIY guy yourself, drops the price of any build, as compared to buying a built rig or paying someone else to build it. Very nice rigs on both. And love your vids, you do a great job of describing work, and reasons for your approach on the builds. Keep it up!👍🏻👍🏻

    The Scorpion is cool, but I'm not really into the buggy look, if you could call it that. I love the original paint left on the Comancheep. It's different, sounds good, and looks mean. I'd pick the Comancheep.
