If Windows & CrowdStrike were open source, this outage would've been resolved by some random dude on Reddit within like a few hours, tops. It amazes me that people use proprietary obfuscated code in critical infrastructure where nobody is able to know what code is running in the background and is not allowed to comb through the code to fix problems independently without those companies. Critical infrastructure needs to switch to open source operating systems and software because it's just safer. For non-tech people, here's an analogy to explain the difference between open source & close sourced software. Close sourced software is similar to a car manufacturer welding the engine shut in a way that makes it impossible for anyone to do repairs, except the manufacturer themselves.
