Paddling in the Spreewald of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Gentle riverbanks, vast meadow landscapes, thick woods and a wide network of streams and the Ice Age waterways of the Spreewald
One of the most popular boat trips in Lübbenau is the approximately 5-hour route through Lehde to the popular Wotschofska restaurant and back. On this tour you will learn interesting facts about the country and its people and also take two breaks for a shore leave. These and other tours are also possible as a canoe tour in Lübbenau
Lübbenau is actually the secret cucumber capital in the Spreewald, because nowhere else can you find so many cucumber processing companies in the region. Lübbenau was first mentioned in a sales document in 1315 but is believed to be much older due to excavations below the castle that show settlement from the 8th or 9th century. Lübbenau offers a variety of sights. Departing from the old town center, visitors can explore the marina with its traditional boats, or a castle which set in a nicely arranged park, including an orangerie with a cafe and a hotel. There are cycling routes to nearby villages, and boat rides are popular with tourists. The city wall's history dates back to the Middle Ages and the museum next to the city gate offers insights into the architecture as well as the rich history of the region.
From 1364 to 1635, Lübbenau was part of the Kingdom of Bohemia, and then until 1815 Lübbenau was a part of the Electorate of Saxony. From 1815 to 1918, Lübbenau was governed by the Kingdom of Prussia.
After a stop at one of the many restaurants , a stroll through the small shops with typical Spreewald products and handicrafts is recommended. A walk through the castle park with its castle, orangery, stables, count's court office and rare trees will round off your excursion. Tip: From Lübbenau Castle Park, you hike only about 1 kilometer to the popular Spreewald village of Lehde .
