I remember when I first learned! I kept the tension on the yarn way too tight. Also, for an older machine that has been sitting more than a year (or 2), it will probably need a new sponge bar to work well. Have fun!

I want to buy a used one and wasn't sure how much age could affect the durability. Seeing that the moving parts are metal, I now have enough assurance that I need. Thank you so much!
Yes, the old machines are well made with metal parts. “TheAnswerLady” has videos on cleaning them. You might find used machines for sale on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.
I'm glad to see it looks like if the computer dies I can still use it 100% manually. I'm picking up a Brother KH-910. I would like to run the computer, too, and there are even resources to hack it with an Arduino MCU to load custom, new patterns stored on modern memory, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Apparently there were semi-transparent patterns for this (not punch cards) but I saw a lady who seems to have printed out her own, and the KH910 scanner and processor still worked. I'm not sure where people are supposedly getting these for $100. I'm going with $225 and considering it a find (local, no shipping pulverizing required). The only whole unit I see like this is $699 on Ebay right now, possibly because people appreciate how common spare parts still are, and there's quite a community of people still using them. Obviously built well.
Thanks for the note! I did find a CompuKnit knitting machine for $25 at a Goodwill once. It was missing the carriage ($180??), but my kh910 carriage fit it! You can find them at thrift shops occasionally, but it’s hit or miss - usually miss!
Hi I have this knitking but in the model it says compukint III is it the same as the bother 930 because in the front of the box it say just knitking no number can you please help me i have never used it i do crochet but never used a knitting machine i guess i was intimidated by it and i brought it but never used it can you please help me sorry i also want to point out that it looks just like the 930 machine you used in the video and it is electronic thank you

I think those machines are the same. Knitting machines are fun! Set it up and get started!
