The BVH500 was a great and reliable location recorder - a huge improvement over what Ampex produced. I shot a documentary on location with this and a Hitachi SK970 studio camera with OCP Always used external power - batteries or mains though. A friend still has my old machine and in fact gave away his own machine the other week although when we powered it up there was the smell of frying electronics....

I always wondered how the spools worked exactly on the 1 spindle… running both reels in different speeds… not like a side-by-side set up.
5:15 What's that digital recorder? Looks interesting, if expensive.
Its a blackmagic hyperdeck. There are a few models and very useful in recording to pro res directly. Best wishes.
