The beatdown version suites me alot more. Control has different lines of play which are cool but beatdown has more of the aggro playstyle that I like to play :P
I've been dabbling between both builds, and at the moment I'm going for a "balanced" version of the Standard Bastion build which has 2-3 Painkiller Angels. My issue with Dark Strain sometimes is that you need to Soul Blast 2 everytime you want to use its skill, as most of the time I'll be using it in the late game. Whereas Painkiller Angels can be called early game to push for damage, are a constant 8k boost (which makes magic numbers with G3s along with Bastion's +2k power skill), and allow me to dig through my deck for a card if I am missing key cards. The downside of course is lowering the G3 count for Bastion's drive check skill.
That's fair, I do like Painkiller since like you said the 8k boost works very well with our 15k Grade 3 attackers for 23k magic numbers. The sacrifice is less Grade 3's but if the pros outweigh the cons to you then that's more than enough of a reason to make that change if it's something you're comfortable with :)
After playing with the beatdown version of Bastion for a while now, I am preferring this variant of the deck more so than the control version just because of the simple fact that it can hit harder with the inclusion of Dark Strain Dragon and wiffs less often with Bastion's restand skill due to the slight increase of Grade 3's the deck is playing for extra consistency. Next up with be Nirvana for Dragon Empire followed by Hexaorb Sorceress for Keter Sanctuary :)
good hearing how your bastion has been going and the variant you are liking
