These videos on your application and the results of it are so helpful. I have similar stats to yours, that interview invite from Cornell gave me so much hope lol
So I'm not actually a medical student (I'm applying to English PhD programs) but I like these type of videos and I just wanna say I really appreciate how thorough this was. You putting your GPA and MCAT and also including scores for the schools was so informative and I appreciate that. I never really see people including that info in videos but it makes it much more interesting.
@@LuigiGonzales You are in this for the right reasons. Service to others will be reflected in the fine care of your patients. UCI is fortunate to train you in the technical aspects of being a fine physician.
Thanks for revealing this man. A lot of people don't and I understand and respect their privacy, but you got some good stats and still got rejected from like 90% of them. Damn, I am in the same boat bruv.
When I was applying, I wished I could see the stats of people who were accepted so I wanted to provide that value to future applicants! My most important tip would be to avoid comparing yourself to other people when you're applying and just focus on doing your best! You got this!
@@LuigiGonzales Thanks mate! I made the mistake by applying too late and have to wait until the next upcoming cycle. I give you cred for not selling yourself short for the Ivy League ones. Shoot for the stars!

Thank you! That experience was definitely very different from applying to college because all medical schools have high averages so there's really not a lot of options to be considered as "safety" schools! There are DO schools with lower averages but thats a whole other application and more payments so I just decided to not apply to those haha

Jefferson and Drexel are both really hard to get in both undergrad and Med school. Hopefully I get in one once I graduate undergrad school. They’re both back at home.
Both schools are really good! I think it’s an achievement to get accepted to any med school! It’s a bigger plus if the school is closer to home. Let me know if you have any questions about applying to med school and I’ll be glad to help!
God this really shows you how hard it is to get accepted to medical school despite you having a good MCAT score and good grades. My dads friend has a daughter who is finding a hard time getting in a medical school even if she had a good score and good grades.
That’s what i think too! I think it’s important for people to get an idea of the reality of how difficult it actually is and what it takes before they waste thousands of dollars applying and being rejected!
@@LuigiGonzales Very true!!! I am planning to do pre-med in college. So far I am only a high schooler with the dream of becoming a doctor with my love in Biology and science related classes. I just hope that dream will come true.

It’s true. It’s the wildest thing. Here in Louisiana it’s easier to get into Tulane than it is LSUHSC. That’s absolutely unheard of with undergrad. I would be unbearably grateful to get into either one. Tulane has a level 1 trauma center
Oh heyyyy future colleage! My partner is a also a sneakerhead, so he sent me this video. Loll at us both being rejected from our Alma maters without even an interview invite....I feel you on that. Either way CONGRATULATIONS on getting into an amazing school!
Thank you! And yeah it was very disappointing to be rejected by my Alma Mater but I’m just glad to know that I’ll be starting medical school soon! Thanks for checking out the video!
Why didn't you apply to UC Davis Medical School? Also, the only way you could probably get into Hawaii as an out-of-state student is if you were Native Hawaiian. They tend to give preferences for that.
I didn’t think I’d be happy living around the area where UCD is at! Also they mentioned having strict guidelines as to who they accept so I just thought that it wasn’t worth applying there!
I bet the process gets way less stressful once you get that first acceptance. Hopefully I get that first acceptance so I dont have to stress. Also what were the timing of your interviews? All early like before December or did some contact you a little later?
It definitely gets way better! The residents and fellows that I’ve talked to say that getting into med school is the toughest filter! Once you’re past that it’s all about trying to survive so you’re not really fighting with your peers for spots as much! Some of my interviews were before December! I had 2 before December and 3 after I think!
I thought private universities don't really give an in-state advantage like Stanford or USC. I was always under the impression public state universities have the major in-state resident preference.
Yeah public universities for sure have IS preferences but privates not as much! For privates, they typically don’t have preferences but it’s based on each school. If you look at the data, it still turns out that there’s a bigger amount of accepted students from Cali for both USC and Stanford!
@@LuigiGonzales Also I have a question when applying for med school is it necessary to have a bunch of extra curriculars? Because I was reading an article of this guy who got acceptance to schools like NYU, Columbia, Havard, and a bunch of other medical schools and all he said was that he showed commitment to his extracurriculars and showed how they were all meaningful to him so That’s what I’ve been wondering about the med school application process if that it is needed to have a bunch of extracurriculars
Hey Stephen! I got my UCLA interview on September 1st and my UCI interview on September 29th! Let me know if you have any other questions about the application cycle!
Yeah! I've just heard a lot about Loma Linda and the religious component of it as well as certain rules and regulations that they have. I didn't do my research to confirm but I didn't think I needed to add it on since I was already applying to 30+ schools!
I started getting interview invites around December! I know some people got interview invites earlier and some later, which made the whole process very stressful!
@@LuigiGonzales Yeah I have gotten two in the last three weeks, so I am trying to gauge the strength of my application based off that. Who knows, maybe its all random. Thanks for the response! And congrats
@@jriccioj WOW!!! That’s amazing! Congrats Jake! Don’t focus on the strength of your application. You got the interviews so just focus on researching the schools and finding the strong points that you want to bring up to the admissions committee!
Hey I’m a usc undergrad and saw your profile pic. Do you think that admissions officers favored you for going to USC? I feel like I could have gone to my state school and easily got a straight 4.0
That's something that I still wonder to this day. I am honestly not sure how heavy medical schools weigh the prestige of your undergraduate school. I do know that a high GPA and high MCAT score should be priority but going to USC has to help. I think they understand if your GPA isn't a 4.0. I think it helped for me because even though I didn't have a high GPA or MCAT, I was still able to get interviews to multiple schools! But at this point, I don't think you should focus on that! You're at USC so just do your best to get good grades while maintaining a healthy study-life balance!

Dude such a eye-opening video, loved it. How much money did u end up spending for 37 applications? I heard they're pretty expensive and that ppl usually recommend applying to less
Im guessing your application was nothing but a list of classes and research you did. They don't want you to list your resume, they want to know your personality, interests.
