27:46 I'm pretty sure Heather saying "No comment" is taken from another scene and is only edited this way to make Heather seem made at Erika when she wasn't mad at all at Erika but instead was mad at Deshawn.
Heather confirmed in an interview she was never mad with Erika. The editing was a disgrace this season, but I saw Erika for who she was the entire time!!
I wish they have showed more of Erika and Heather relationship. But as a fan , it was not a surprise for me her win. And I could tell by the merge episode that they were close( heather and Erika) . I believe she is a deserving winner.
I find her retort to Deshawn so fascinating as a tribal play, because think of how that could have backfired, that kind of passive-aggressive comment. It's been enough for people to justify votes in the past, to paint her in live tribal as paranoid and untrustworthy and a loose cannon. But she said "And now I know..." and was correct in reading both the jury and the tribe, knowing that they wouldn't appreciate what Deshawn just did, because Deshawn has proven to be slippery. That was a jury play, and I don't think even the jury realized it. They just had their biases confirmed, and well, confirmation bias is a powerful force.
I went to high school and played football with Deshawn. He was a class below me so we did not interact that much. I didn’t expect him to go that far. I was hella excited for him.
All I can say is that Erika was a fantastic player, and could’ve been a great character as well if given a proper edit. I only hope that he underwhelming edit gives her an advantage in a future season, she deserved so much better.
Jeff being weirdly sweet only happens when Erika greets her... probably Jeff was seeing things that were not shown on the show... he probably sees Erika's low key but highly dangerous wit!!! It's seemed obvious Jeff has found another gem player! One of the most satisfying wins for me!!! Idc if many didn't see her cus that's exactly what she wanted. And BAM!!!! Slaying them all!!!! She saif in the interview she planted seeds in small talks, even wear kiddie dress and hair bands so she can't be seen a target and something serious to get threat from until she begun to make her move on the way up and eveyobe is seeing her a threat they can't just stopppp!!!! What a queen!!!
She reminds me of Sandra but more bubbly! She is under rated probably because she is Asian, small and not your typical Parvati and Kim Spradlin type of winner. She definitely is a refreshing winner and a very deserving one.
honestly I don't think she was under edited. However, they should've included one or two confessionals in Episode 3 to show how close her and Heather were + also that secret scene with her naming the merge tribe!
Tom doesn't count. He had been living in the US for decades and had US citizenship. He could have applied before the new Canadian rule. The fact that he was a recruit and billed as a Canadian when thousands of Canadians were finally allowed to apply and none were actually cast, is a huge insult to all Canadian fans. I would imagine most of us only count Shan and Erika as Canadian players. I know Shan lives in the US currently, but I don't think she has citizenship. Not actually sure, but in her RHAP interview she said she could only apply after they started casting Canadians. Don't really know how all that emigration and visa stuff works though.
she never depended on a trinket (idol, extra vote) and instead was instrumental in flushing out idols that were threats. 1 the naseer blindside (wc is ricard's move) 2 the shan blindside (the split vote was her and heather's move). xander's idol is not a threat to her since he is in her alliance
From Danny's interview, De Shawn confessed that he suggested Sydney's name to Erika for a pre-merge vote, but then he was too scared that she'll tell the group that he threw her under the bus
Thank you for this video, after watching it there were SO many key moments I completely looked over. Great explanations; I was one of the people confused by how Erika won, but no doubts in my mind she deserves it now 😂 The most surprising thing was that now it makes sense why Xander and his idol wasn't a threat after Tiffany and Evvie got voted out; in my head I thought he was the underdog who'd have to correctly play his idol to stay alive and scrape to the top, but I realize now who was in control. Thanks for the video 🙏
got back into survivor with 41 after years of not watching it, this channel has been absolutely perfect for getting my survivor fix (especially now that I have to wait for 42..) keep up the awesome content!
Erika is a top 20 winner in my opinion. She may of not be msking big moves but that's not the only way to win the game. I love a winner lije Erika an underdog who works her butt off to get things to go with way without being on anyone's radar.
One of the meta things I find delightful about Erika was how she dyed her hair Purple when she got back home. Yes it looks good on her, but also how fitting that she will probably go down in history as The Purple [Edited] Survivor Winner. But here's the thing. I don't agree that we needed to see more of her game than we actually did. Because I feel like it is to the shows benefit that not all winners be highlighted in the same way. Half the fun of Survivor is that it's basically a "Who done it?" Mystery. One of these 16-20 players has won the game. We're going to show you SOME of what happened, and give you a couple clues along the way, but our intention isn't to give it away. What I want for Survivor is to have me go into a finale believing that literally ANY one of the finalist (yeah, even Heather) has a chance to win this game. If the winner was always edited to have a high amount of screentime and confessionals, then the show would basically be giving away the winner every time, and it would eventually grow stale and predictable. So yeah CBS. Have a couple Decoy Edits now and then. Give us a Vecepia or Erika Purple winner once in a while. Keep the viewers on their toes. Make them look beyond the surface of what is being advertised.
nothing about her edit was purple. she got 39 confessionals. while not high, it's not close to purple territory. for comparison, Natalie W only got 15 and Sophie only got 22
@@kyleroberts1276 Really? None of it? How about The fact that her relationship with Heather turned out to be arguably the most important duo in this game, and we saw hardly any of it. That's pretty purple.
Interesting. Not a fan of Erika but this video made me think about her role in the Naseer and Shan votes, which were pinned to Ricard on the show but Ricard wanting to keep Erika over Naseer could be Erikas gameplay, and then Erika is seen convicing Danny to split the vote between Liana and Shan, If she played a big role in those, I wish they would have shown it more
Also I wonder how much of Ricard targeting Shan had to do with Erika pitching that to him. Then she controlled the Danny boot 100%, and I think her partnership with Xander MAYBE had something to do with him taking her to final 3, I went from not liking her game at all, to actually appreciating how much control she had. I think her domination started at the final 10, pre merge she was on the outs, final 12 she got lucky, final 11 she was just there, but from then on she did a great job. Im still unsure about how much was it Ricards decision to work with her, if it was him using her or Erika convincing him.
Just watching this video I say Erica is a top ten winner of all time. She was on the bottom but fought to get to the top and that's what she did. It never felt she was truely in any danger of going home the whole game and this was with never finding an idol. She won only one immunity and that was the most important one. She killed it at puzzles which save her tribe from going to tribe twice.
Erika was my pre game pick. I wanted to root for a Canadian, and I preferred her bio and interviews to Shan's. I definitely though I'd picked wrong pre merge lol. But I'm very proud of her game. Not her fault she had a terrible edit pre merge. Heather (understandably) took issue with her edit and actually contacted the producers to ask why it was so awful. After all, as the winner's number one ally and being in the finale, you would not expect to be invisible. They straight up told her that the pre merge edit was concentrated around the advantages. You found an advantage, you were shown. Otherwise, you were purpled. That's why Erika and Heather were invisible pre merge. I don't think it should be that difficult to give an equally strong edit to everyone who makes it far. We should have no idea who will win, because we saw everybody's games. We should be able to like, or love to hate, everyone in the finale. We should be able to understand why the winner won, without it being predictable. It should be surprising, but not a shock. I think it was Ricard who said it best. We saw all Erika's moves, but they didn't show us her personality. They could have shown her character moments that made us love her, and they didn't really. It's really upsetting that the first Canadian winner got so shafted.
she one of my top picks for an under-the-radar player. sure she got 'lucky' but she was exiled from the game for 2 days! it's not just about surviving on your own, it's also a huge set back from strategy so the hourglass is a form of compensation. i'm not saying the hourglass twist is a great twist, it's not, but there has to be some compensation that comes from being exiled.
I feel bad for Erika, they should have given her a much better edit. Survivor is so afraid of people guessing who will win that they gave their winner a terrible edit. Showing more of her ideas and game play might have given people more to defend her win and show why she deserved it over the other finalists.
@@robtheservantof6257 This video just presents what was in the show. The point of Survivor is to reach the end and convince the jury to vote for you. Anything that doesn't accomplish those two things are superfluous.
some people might call her lucky for winning immunity at the split tribal. why? if a man like tony wins clutch he's king, if a woman wins clutch she's lucky? that's unfair.
we can never tell for sure if erika would have gone home premerge had they gone to tribal but she seemed well-positioned in luvu. based on deshawn's interview with entertainment weekly, they were to throw the challenge to get syd out and erika was going along with it.
I really liked erikas game what I don’t like was her edit I get trying to hide her a bit but pre merge she was so invisible I let forgetting she was on the season I feel like 3 or 4 more confessionals would have helped
I definitely agree with the overall analysis of her character that was shown. But that one scene of her talking to Heather with the whole "how pissed are you at me", it definitely more comes off as "I understand that you are angry with me, and I accept that. But I still want to move forward with you" and it speaks to her social game that not long after that heather and Erika where enjoying the final meal of the season and happy to have made it together this far as friends and allies.
All I did was cut out everyone else's storylines and focused on hers lol I wish the show gave us a bit more about her in the pre-merge and included Heather more as well.
Love your videos mate! Australian here, looking forward to watching Sandra kick some Aussie butt (or if the players are smart, they'll get rid of her as soon as its possible)
It's an ok move for me. It showed that she had control and agency as well as that she successfully reintegrated to majority after being exiled for 2 days. My favorite move of her is controlling the votes on Danny's boot. Everybody wanted Deshawn out but she got her way. It showed that she has the most power. I love it when she was like "you're welcome, friend!" to Deshawn lol. Making it visible to the jury that she was in control. I think her best move though is tricking Xander into thinking that they're equals and got him to make her safe from firemaking.
"I hope this works for all of us." Erica: If not, I will literally kill you guys. I love her. Very deserving winner that got screwed by the editing. I mean, didn't people notice how a lot of survivors are calling out how Erica is scary and they wanted to get rid off her.
Still baffles me that she was only vulnerable to be voted out at 4 tribal councils. And it just happened to be during one’s where there were bigger targets (Naseer, Shan, Liana, Danny). She was never a target when she was vulnerable. Interesting game.
I admit, Erika was not one of my winner picks. I had her as someone who would definitely make the merge, but would probably be one of the first 2 jury members.
Of all the unnecessary advantages, the hourglass was the worst this season. It goes against everything the game is about, giving one person power over everyone else. The winning tribe got screwed in a game designed to reward challenge winners.
But don't you think that how the teams were divided (both Heather and Tiffany and only one guy, Xander, on Yellow, with Danny Deshawn and Richard all on Blue) were unfair to begin with? And it's not like they DIDN'T get rewarded, they still were the only people who got to eat the merge feast.
@@roger_towny_jr A.) She was not chosen to be invulnerable from the vote Naseer was by the winning team and was nullified by a "choice" that Jeff brought to Erika (I put choice in quotes because lets be honest I'm surprised Erica didn't smash the hourglass before Jeff was even done explaining) B.) They got to eat which is nice but after being safe from the vote for a couple days not only does your groups decision to make Naseer invulnerable mean nothing but now you are all vulnerable and haven't had any time to strategize or think anything over, yes yes nice reward for winning the challenge... yes yes....
I'm new to survivor so Erika wining was a surprise to me. I think we can all agree though that things would have been very different if Xander had chosen her for the fire making

I ❤❤❤ Erika but was she really inder edited? I mean, Xander got the same confessionals as Spencer in Cambodia and Erika actually only got 5 less confessionals than the winnee of that Season - Jeremy. I think the problem was that they did not give her content pre merge or show her relationship with Heather and is she really a controversial winner? I mean I do see a lot of people supporting her win as well so I guess she is not that underrated. I mean people thought Dean should have won over Tommy but he wasn't exactly 'controversial'. That's my two cents on it 😊
Overall great video, Erika was my preseason winner pick for 41, so happy that she won 😄 One question tho but wasn't Shan trying to save Ricard at the round where Shan was blindsided? Didn't she want him to win individual immunity and didn't she tell him that he was being targeted by Danny and Deshawn?
Imagine Erika and Cassidy as well as more contestants we'll probably meet in future seasons, all competing in 2020 in an alternate reality with no COVID-19. I'm not sure who played better. Probably Erika, though, even though she was lucky to survive twists, while Cassidy had to brave twists that really threatened her. The fox has a better social game though. Best of all time IMHO.
29:04 this show fucking sucks now. it's literally just sitting there? 2 seasons from now it will be on the ground in the very center of the walking path
Zander threw away the game by taking Erika with him. Deshaun had burned his bridges on the jury by final tribal and Shan was advocating against him. Obviously Heather was a non-factor. The game was Zander's to lose and based on his good strategic gameplay up to that point, I'm surprised he made such a boneheaded move.
Heather isn’t guaranteed to win but it’s insulting to consider her a non factor. She had more win equity than Xander. Xander played the worst strategic game out of anybody in the final 6 and it’s not even close.
Im not a big fan of under the radar winners, but i tought she played well. I think my big problem is how the show prefered too have more time on screen about a ton of advantages that did nothing instead of having more of the winner of the season

At the end u said that the hourglass was lucky for her but it’s actually a lot more complex because that twist put her in an unlucky position to begin with. Also, naseer getting chosen was a strategic blunder for Danny because it doesn take a survivor phd to know that exile has powers BUT the twist was formatted in a really unbalanced manner to where its just unfair for everyone involved in different ways but the way Erika was able to adapt and overcome that was impressove

Shut up with the identity politics. The winner should be based on three things, skill, luck, and strategy. Nothing more and nothing less. I don’t care to see a latino winner (I’m latino) unless they won based on those three mentioned criteria and even if they won they shouldn’t be celebrated and paraded for their accomplishment solely on their race when another race wouldn’t be because they’re not latino. That’s just racist and diminishes their win when you only focus on the color of their skin instead of their character and how they played.

Legitimately one of the cleanest games ever played will go down as a severely underrated winner
No
Legitimately just a Nathalie 2.0 win.
27:46 I'm pretty sure Heather saying "No comment" is taken from another scene and is only edited this way to make Heather seem made at Erika when she wasn't mad at all at Erika but instead was mad at Deshawn.
Maybe
Heather confirmed in an interview she was never mad with Erika. The editing was a disgrace this season, but I saw Erika for who she was the entire time!!
I don’t think it’s edited but I don’t think Heather is talking towards Erika about being mad, just deshawn
Erika winning was the most excited I was for a winner since Natalie Anderson! So definitely a satisfying outcome to me. Nice breakdown :)
I wish they have showed more of Erika and Heather relationship. But as a fan , it was not a surprise for me her win. And I could tell by the merge episode that they were close( heather and Erika) . I believe she is a deserving winner.
Same here. Only casuals couldn't see it.
I could see it too!!!! The edit kept showing Heather’s face when Erika was explaining the hourglass situation!
They just had their biases confirmed, and well, confirmation bias is a powerful force.
that is no confirmation bias, but just a regular confirmation.
I went to high school and played football with Deshawn. He was a class below me so we did not interact that much. I didn’t expect him to go that far. I was hella excited for him.
the edit did her dirty!
All I can say is that Erika was a fantastic player, and could’ve been a great character as well if given a proper edit. I only hope
that he underwhelming edit gives her an advantage in a future season, she deserved so much better.
This was a wonderfully made video good sir.
honestly I don't think she was under edited. However, they should've included one or two confessionals in Episode 3 to show how close her and Heather were + also that secret scene with her naming the merge tribe!
She was so invisible preserve I kept forgetting she was on the season
This was a great explanation of her game and I truly appreciate you including Xanders mistakes
Been waiting for this one. Season 41 was the first season I watched in real time in years, so I’m invested.
Canada’s first winner. Canadians have a 50% success rate.
Wouldn't it be 33% since Shan and Tom Laidlaw are also Canadians? or are you counting Todd?
@@OnceUponAnIsland Shan though was billed from Washington which is BS lmao if you’re Canadian tell us she’s Canadian
Great explanations; I was one of the people confused by how Erika won, but no doubts in my mind she deserves it now 😂
The most surprising thing was that now it makes sense why Xander and his idol wasn't a threat after Tiffany and Evvie got voted out; in my head I thought he was the underdog who'd have to correctly play his idol to stay alive and scrape to the top, but I realize now who was in control.
Isn't it purple on the show?
@@OnceUponAnIsland True. I guess she dyed it again.
nothing about her edit was purple. she got 39 confessionals. while not high, it's not close to purple territory. for comparison, Natalie W only got 15 and Sophie only got 22
@@kyleroberts1276 Really? None of it?
How about The fact that her relationship with Heather turned out to be arguably the most important duo in this game, and we saw hardly any of it.
That's pretty purple.
@@roger_towny_jr no
By no standards is her edit considered purple.
Great analysis for Erika. Wishing that the edit would be different
My bad she won 2
I agree. Getting exiled for two days _at the merge_ because you drew a rock is really unlucky.
I feel bad for Erika, they should have given her a much better edit. Survivor is so afraid of people guessing who will win that they gave their winner a terrible edit. Showing more of her ideas and game play might have given people more to defend her win and show why she deserved it over the other finalists.
@@robtheservantof6257 Did you watch the video??
@@robtheservantof6257 This video just presents what was in the show. The point of Survivor is to reach the end and convince the jury to vote for you. Anything that doesn't accomplish those two things are superfluous.
Stg I forgot she won this cause I forgot everything from this damn game after Jeff stopped saying come on in guys
Her game reminds me of Adam in 33. Always have a bigger threat ahead of you and foster relationships with everyone.
She’s the first winner I got to witness :]
some people might call her lucky for winning immunity at the split tribal. why? if a man like tony wins clutch he's king, if a woman wins clutch she's lucky? that's unfair.

BIG MISTAKE!
The fact that you sold Erika’s win more than CBS
All I did was cut out everyone else's storylines and focused on hers lol I wish the show gave us a bit more about her in the pre-merge and included Heather more as well.
@@OnceUponAnIsland same. I feel like the editors did her dirty when it came to her.
Love your videos mate! Australian here, looking forward to watching Sandra kick some Aussie butt (or if the players are smart, they'll get rid of her as soon as its possible)
I hope Sandra makes it far!!!
for me, erika's best move was the shan-liana split vote
It's an ok move for me. It showed that she had control and agency as well as that she successfully reintegrated to majority after being exiled for 2 days.
My favorite move of her is controlling the votes on Danny's boot. Everybody wanted Deshawn out but she got her way. It showed that she has the most power. I love it when she was like "you're welcome, friend!" to Deshawn lol. Making it visible to the jury that she was in control.
I think her best move though is tricking Xander into thinking that they're equals and got him to make her safe from firemaking.
"I hope this works for all of us."
Erica: If not, I will literally kill you guys.
I love her. Very deserving winner that got screwed by the editing. I mean, didn't people notice how a lot of survivors are calling out how Erica is scary and they wanted to get rid off her.
“The kinder and gentlier jeff was a weird change for the man we have known for so long” LOL You are very funny narrator.
Erika wins the crown for the survivor winner who said the word “like” the MOST in her confessionals.
I like Erika’s story and feel like she was a good winner
I also feel like the edit was much more trying to tell the stories of how the big move players lost this season than how Erika won.
Still baffles me that she was only vulnerable to be voted out at 4 tribal councils. And it just happened to be during one’s where there were bigger targets (Naseer, Shan, Liana, Danny). She was never a target when she was vulnerable. Interesting game.
these videos are dope dog
She's also the first Filipino player and winner.
Yep! That's in the video.
@@roger_towny_jr A.) She was not chosen to be invulnerable from the vote Naseer was by the winning team and was nullified by a "choice" that Jeff brought to Erika (I put choice in quotes because lets be honest I'm surprised Erica didn't smash the hourglass before Jeff was even done explaining)
B.) They got to eat which is nice but after being safe from the vote for a couple days not only does your groups decision to make Naseer invulnerable mean nothing but now you are all vulnerable and haven't had any time to strategize or think anything over, yes yes nice reward for winning the challenge... yes yes....

Season 41 was the first season I watched as it came out
Never noticed how much foreshadowing was throughout this whole season. Now I’m going to over examine the intro to 43
The intro to 42 gives away the winner, but I didn't see anything in 43. Let me know if you do.
@@OnceUponAnIsland the last four people in the 43 intro are Justine, Owen, and Noelle in that order. So the 41 spoiler doesn’t work and by 42’s spoiler Noelle is winning. My guess is that they didn’t do anything for 43.
Really disappointed we didn't get Naseer fighting for individual immunity. Hah
Erika was less lucky than everyone else who participated and strategized and lost the challenge
Can you do a video on people like JD who think they r challenge beasts but come in and just flub and miss? I feel like I need some good edits of that.
Great idea! The patrons pick what videos I make 😊
Overall great video, Erika was my preseason winner pick for 41, so happy that she won 😄 One question tho but wasn't Shan trying to save Ricard at the round where Shan was blindsided? Didn't she want him to win individual immunity and didn't she tell him that he was being targeted by Danny and Deshawn?
Imagine Erika and Cassidy as well as more contestants we'll probably meet in future seasons, all competing in 2020 in an alternate reality with no COVID-19. I'm not sure who played better. Probably Erika, though, even though she was lucky to survive twists, while Cassidy had to brave twists that really threatened her. The fox has a better social game though. Best of all time IMHO.
Its a shame the edit was so bad, bc i never thought she deserved the win. I'm fine with it now
29:04 this show fucking sucks now. it's literally just sitting there? 2 seasons from now it will be on the ground in the very center of the walking path
Zander threw away the game by taking Erika with him. Deshaun had burned his bridges on the jury by final tribal and Shan was advocating against him. Obviously Heather was a non-factor. The game was Zander's to lose and based on his good strategic gameplay up to that point, I'm surprised he made such a boneheaded move.
Xander was a goat, plain and simple.
Heather isn’t guaranteed to win but it’s insulting to consider her a non factor. She had more win equity than Xander. Xander played the worst strategic game out of anybody in the final 6 and it’s not even close.
Just 15 character moments is super low, right? Like, half a regular finalist.
Im not a big fan of under the radar winners, but i tought she played well. I think my big problem is how the show prefered too have more time on screen about a ton of advantages that did nothing instead of having more of the winner of the season
Out of curiosity, what don’t you like about under the radar winners? Is it just that they don’t make great TV? Or do you have a problem with how they play?
@@ampersand08 It's not how they played, it's for the tv part, Im not a big fan of a winner being invincible and not a part of the show, I think my best example is the finale of Hell's Kitchen 4 in a season with so many personalities the finale was so underwelming with two people that I was invested in. I feel like that, Im not insterested in a winner that disapeared or was not shown
@@ampersand08 I’m not a big fan of under the radar players either and it’s a bit of both of what they said. They don’t make great TV and their gameplay doesn’t quite stand out from someone who is shown playing hard and getting away with it (those players are more fun to watch in my opinion)
It seems unlucky on its face, but when the choice boils down to immunity or no immunity, it ends up being extremely lucky, which all winners need to get the million.
@@OnceUponAnIsland I guess you're right. Plus Xander also got the immunity from that as did Deshawn literally only survivng from the chance do or die twist!

You know I think people would be a lot higher on her if Xander didn’t get such a big edit and her recieve kind of a purple edit, only for Erika to win in dominant fashion and Xander completely nosedive
Honestly her only dumb move was not obliging to deshawns stupid plan and even then that move was stupid
Future of survivor is foreshadowing and the winners edit will be other players talking about the winner the most
This is not new though.
I loved Erika so much. Icon me thinks
That's not true. Ricard wasn't Shan's next target. He was Deshawn's next target.
“Want to see heroes that look like them” @25:09
Me: Yea-no Erika, not even close. I’m not white but I never needed to be to like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, etc. It’s inherently narcissistic and egotistical if the only way you can sympathize or understand something based solely on if someone looks like you.
Latino is just a word for White people who want to feel special.
