Great fun to have landed upon this video, in fact you taught me this very phrase in 1996 and I have never forgotten! All best to you from a long ago student 😊
Oh my! Amazing to hear from you, Yoni. How cool that you remember this phrase from that long ago. Thanks for reaching out and I wish you all the best too! 🤗
Saw this video a few months ago and forgot to go back and watch it. Working nights means I don't have a lot of time. I went through it and thought I would come back to it but forgot again. OMG, I have just watched it again and how did I ever learn this. You have made this so clear. I am now thinking why did I ever have an issue with Polyrhythms. Next challenge is to put it into practice with Fantaisie Impromptu. Which incidentally is my favourite piece of music of all time. I think I could get it but the speed at which it's played is another thing which I don't think I shall ever achieve. I think I will struggle with the left hand speed more so. Any tips would be gratefully appreciated. Have you uploaded part 2 out yet Lana? Thank you so much. I am so glad I have found your channel again. Love your teaching style and how you have broken things down and simplified them for a dummy like me lol. It means a lot as I really have struggled with polyrhythms and I did end up drawing lots of lines lol. Having a basic method means I can use that as a second check of my workings if that makes sense.
Your comment was so wonderful to read. I am very pleased that the video was clear for you and you've found it helpful. 🙏🏼😊 I DO have a part 2 which I've slowly been editing but I really need to finish it and get it up. Thank you for the motivation to do it soon! 🤗 Everything you've said a has made sense - I think it is extremely important to have multiple ways of learning and practicing things. I will most certainly do more posts on the LH of the Fantaisie-Impromptu. I would love to do a LIVE practice session on it also... the semester has been busy for me so it may have to be in the Dec. break.🤞🏼
Seriously Lana, you have no idea, just how helpful and grateful I am due to this video. Fantaisie Impromptu has always been my favourite piece along with Moonlight Sonata! I can play the former hands separately and the slow movement both hands together naturally but together I struggle. It's been the bane of my life since first hearing the piece 30+ years ago! Getting the left hand to speed though is another issue in and of itself! I can get so fast but the speed at which you play it is evidently the speed I need to get to. I practise and practise over and over but it doesn't seem to make any difference, other than my wrist aching through constant rotation. As you can imagine I am really excited your video on Fantaisie to come out! So looking forward to the second part. Again sincerest gratitude.
Really Good! You want to hear something Funny? I used to call Cadence in the Navy right? Lefty Righta Le'eft, a Right Le'eft. I had one of the first Female Drill Sergeants and she gave me soo much Greif: "Get that Cob out of your A** Willoughby"! So After I can Clap these out, I stand up and take them to my Feet and Step them out like a movement we used to do called "Mass Confusion March"! I play Violin, and a Huge thing in Violin pedagogy that is almost never addressed is Shifting Balance to help your Bowing. You see Hillary doing this all the time, and She studied Ballet. In any Dance, Shifting Balance is really the Key, especially in Tap. But the thing is for Musicians, who almost never get to dance, if you can do it in your Feet, without stumbling all over the place, then you really Feel it: Whole Body Connection. Easy to work on for a few minutes while watching TV or streaming a Movie, and believe me you can work up a sweat in no time. By the way, I also got a pair of Marching Drumsticks and a practice pad so I don't Clap my Hands to Death. There are some good books on Snare that really cover all these things in Depth. Wish I had a Concert Snare Drummer to Study with. Cheers, Jack
Very cool! I love that you refer to dance, as much of what I teach concerns movement and how our sound relates directly to it. Some interesting things that you've brought up to think about. Thanks so much! 🤗
Hi! I do give online coaching sessions during the year. Due to a pretty hectic schedule next semester, I won't be able to take on new clients until the spring/summer. In the meantime, you can check out information on my website: www.lanahenchell.com/onlinepianocoaching 😊 Feel free to message me online if you have further questions 👍🏼
I wish my piano teacher could’ve explained it this clearly and simply! Thank you!
Happy to help! These rhythms can be tricky.... love anything that makes them easier 😊
That's wonderful. I got it now, thanks
Fantastic! 👊🏼

Wow. How did I never learn this? Genius.
Yay! Amazing to hear!! Keep me posted on how it goes! 👊🏼
Great lesson, can I think it as 12/8 beat?
You can definitely have larger groups of notes, as long as the have the same common denominator!
Wonderful explanation!!! Thank you!
You're very welcome! It helped me immensely when I was learning, so hope it helps others! 😊
