Never allow the wire to bend itself around what you're cutting. You'll work harden the metal and break your saw. Keep the wire straight.

The trouble is that something valuable-looking like a ring might get taken from you in a kidnapping situation. Better to use something worthless or near-worthless like two nickels (or even two pennies).

This seems like a good idea, until you accidentally spend one of them or lose them in the laundry.

Padlock bars should be hardened, so this saw wire will probably be dull before you make it through. And you did not break the bar, you just brut forced the lock, that has nothing to do with the saw.
Plus when you wrap the wire all around the bar, it probably grinds on itself and wears out even quicker, so I don't think it is a good idea.
Probably not, though honestly if you're planning on getting through steel bars you're probably not gonna want to use anything that isn't powered or built specifically for that purpose. This does however work for small jobs like rope, wood, maybe removing an aluminum chair leg or cutting through copper pipe. I'd imagine if this can bite that far into steel it'd work fine for softer metals. Edit: forgot padlocks bars are normally made from aluminum, my mistake
I'd say it would be good for a survival situation but considering you can already break branches with your weight and that most people going on a long camping trip will take a tool for harvesting wood like a hatchet or machete. Actually would this be good for older people who maybe tire out easier using such tools? I Brian said it didn't take much effort to bite into a surface, that could make collecting wood from dead trees easier for someone with a physical disability or loss of function due to age.
I am not putting this down, it is a fun gizmo that can actually do something and is possible to always have on hand. ^^ Brian just framed it a litte different than it came across to me.

Depending on the padlock, you might need a replacement blade or two, but the wire is rated to cut into anything with a hardness less than diamonds, so ultimately, that padlock is no match for you!

Actually about using it to cut flesh it seems strong enough for a piano wire choke, essentially that’s when u use a strong thin wire such as piano wire to come up from behind someone and pull it through the front of their neck to cut their breathing tube, it makes them unable to make a sound while they die.
Just spin both wires together it will give it more of a rigged edge while you cut with it
Neat. So, yeah with time, patience and maybe two extra strings, you could probably have cut all the way through that lock.
Keeping calm and rational can be hard in stressful situations but if you accomplish that then you can use your time effectively. Rushing is not the same as moving with purpose. And if you have enough strength or enough wit to use tools, a bit of leverage or elbow grease can finish the second half.

Not anymore. Only if you try to use them as currency. When the law was passed originally it was to keep people from shaving coins, keeping some of the metal, and then spending the money. Since they started adding ridges and grooves it's harder to pass off the coins as legal tender. The fact that they use mixed metals, greatly reduces the value of melting them for profit. It's just not worth the effort.
