  • BBC Radio 1's Film Critic Ali Plumb talks to the cast and crew of the BAFTA winning one--shot World War 1 epic movie 1917. Stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman reveal how they found their characters voices. Oscar-winning Director Sam Mendes discusses the influence of his Grandfather's service in WW1 on the story. And co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns explains which movies she looked to for inspiration, including Joe Wright's Atonement, Alfred Hitchcock's Rope and the Mendes directed James Bond movie Spectre.

    Perhaps an unpopular opinion but I think George MacKay deserves the Oscar nod over Leo for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Dee Shan I disagree with you. George definitely should’ve been nominated but not instead of Leo.
      In OUATIH, Leo, who is a pretty confident and famous actor, plays an actor who:
      has zero confidence and has been forgotten about, which he notices massively,
      then he plays the actor playing a cowboy villain but the actor he plays has no range so he plays it not badly but not well.
      That’s genuinely incredible acting and one of the best performances in years. It’s literally acting on top of acting on top of acting. He was genuinely incredible! I believe he 100% deserves to be nominated.

    If you still need to be told that the Oscars are a massive joke, they didn’t even nominate 1917 for editing, despite Lee Smith’s ridiculously brilliant work to stitch it all together. Parasite’s editing over this? Good Lord no wonder people think the Oscars are rigged.

    What I want to know was how do you edit a movie like that? Usually it's normal to film a bunch of footage and it's like 3 or 4 hours. Then you would edit and cut it down to what the movie ends up being. How do you edit a movie that's all in one shot? What happens if the full thing is an hour too long but you can't cut stuff?

    • @koolerking440
      @koolerking440 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its shot "like" a one shot. A take is up to 8-10 mins long, so there are edits, but they're are VERY cleverly done. Then its matching the actors movement from end of shot X to start of shot Y and so on.
