Meditative drawing process | Creating a realistic portrait with pastels

This portrait was commissioned by a client in Spain. The little dog, Yosi the Jack Russell, is the son of my dog Angie, so this work was very special, from start to finish. Brown is the bigger dog, the Red Border Collie. I hope you enjoy watching the process as much as I loved creating it, when I draw, sketch, paint it becomes a very relaxing and meditative process for me.

Have you tried using pan pastels instead of the sticks? Are you using pastelmat, carbothelios and Farber castell pencils?

I actually tried them over 3 years ago and didn’t enjoy them I felt I was struggling to add details with the pencils on top of them. I’ve recently tried them again and I’m actually enjoying them very much although I only own 10 Colours at present.

As for the 2nd question yes to everything and I use a couple more brands for pencils caran dache and cretacolor I also own detener
