To be honest, the Hotelroom looks like any other Business Room. Albeit the Entrance and the Public Area is beautifully restored.

It's the Chambers Room and suites that are fantastic (and not the 'normal' Barlow wing room shown.

Shame about the room. Looks a lot like a Best Western or a Motel 6. The rest of it was beautiful.

Michelle Marsh I thought the same thing, I’ve seen better ,the outside is beautiful and some of the lobbies are beautiful but not the rooms. Get someone to redo the rooms that has a better vision.

Forget the modern section with standard Marriott look The original part of the hotel is where the best rooms are both public and private. It's overall a good hotel but not really what you would expect from a luxury property.

I spent 6 hours exploring this magnificent structure and hogged my own bar table for 2 hours (glad I did!) I spent nothing except for a long sipping glass of wine. Highlight of my London adventure. It is a treasure.

I used to walk passed it in the 70s-80s and shake my head at how it could be left to rot. What a wonderful job they have done (and the work done on King's Cross). I've not been to London since 2005 when I saw the station almost finished and I'd love to see the hotel with my own eyes soon.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now. I completely agree with your review. The hotel itself is beautiful and the architecture is amazing, but once I got into my contemporary room that is where I was left feeling uninspired. For one of my stays, my room had no window outside (faced an inside void) and no natural light. It’s a shame the chamber suites are over twice the price!

I enjoyed your video, but I had the chance to stay this year in the Chamber Suites. This video didn’t do this hotel justice. Also the Price you paid was so near the price I paid. I was here for 14 days. Also the Chamber Lounge I cant find words to describe my experience. I came to London for the Victorian feel and it gives that feeling. The cathedral ceilings in my room and hall way and the castle feeling in the room and Chambers lounge was VERY VERY VERY impressive. Also breakfast and tea time is included when you stay in the Chamber Suites. The private Chambers lounge that you have access to -I literally could sit in there for hours. Everyone looking for the castle, Victorian, old historic feel I promise you will get it here but only in the Chamber quarters. I hope to finish my video soon of my experience at St Pancras.

McNulty030 Spoken by someone who clearly doesn't understand market forces. London is the worlds most visited city, demand for rooms is high year round, not to mention that buying and running a hotel in one of the worlds most expensive cities is not cheap! The restoration of this hotel cost hundreds of millions of pounds, clearly they have to make it commercially viable.

We stayed here in 2018 in one of the rooms in the historic wing. I thought it was beautiful - the service was great too! If you do return stay in the historic section and that gives access to the private club where we ate twice per day. There is also a historic tour that is free and gives you access to more of the hotel and the history.

Thanks for the experience! This hotel is somewhat weird, it looks a mix of hospital and railroad experience. And those corridors with that dark images of strange people facing you reminded me of the entrance hall of Disney's Haunted Mansion. I believe there are better places to spend this much money for a stay in London, albeit the location (with Eurostar at the door) seems very interesting. See you next week, on Capri!

    Dear Traveller :
    Greetings from Mumbai.
I have been following your videos for the past few months. This is the first time I found you criticizing the room interiors. Probably, having stayed in various resorts and hotels, you have set a higher standard.
But in my view, people coming to such hotels stay for a night or two for business purposes or in the transit for onwards journey. So most of the people may have breakfast and have their lunch out and be back in the night to hit the sack. Their perspective may differ from your views.
    Best wishes.

The Kimpton Fitzroy sits on the historical homestead of the lady that founded the Suffrage Movement. Mr. Fitzroy, if you’re into history, designed the First Class dining hall on the Titanic. He also created two dragons out of brass. One went down on the Titanic and the other is on the third floor banister of the Kimpton Fitzroy. They call him Lucky George

When my wife and I met as students in the 70s she worked for a year in this building which was then the head office of British Transport Hotels. In 2014 we decided to stay there 'for old time's sake' whilst visiting our son who lives in London. The room was, as shown, boring and forgettable. All the best features of the hotel are available to casual non-residents. We paid £268 then, nowadays it is nearer to £400. Definitely avoid staying here there is so much better value to be found. Our next London stay, in Battersea, is costing £58 at a Premier Inn - we will spend some of the savings on a Michelin Starred meal.

For example in this vlog alone, the front lobby concierge who is obvious and swinging his arms around in a cocky kind of nonchalant manner, like he's bored and looking for stimulation, which he may well be, but he should have (1) a tie on (2) stand still with his hands in clasped in front to show be works there (3) not saunter around like he owns the place. OK rant over. 😃😎

Any time I visit London, I am not that bothered about the hotel room as long as the hotel is reasonably central. I only use it for sleeping as I am always out sightseeing. London is a sprawling metropolis and, if you pick a hotel in the suburbs without realising it, you can spend hours travelling in and out of the city centre each day wasting valuable time.

Things I liked... I generally liked the public rooms and restaurants from what I saw and I loved the staircase. The spa area was well done being both modern and yet able to remind me of the Turkish baths so popular in another era.
And things that did not wow me... The room did not impress. Partly because, as you noted, it was small. But also because its stark modernist appearance clashed sharply with the ambiance of a Victorian hotel. Speaking of which, for a supposedly upscale establishment with an old fashioned aura, I don't think I saw a single man who could be bothered to wear a tie. No shortage however, of people dressed in shorts and sandals. That's fine for beach hotels, but not for a hotel with pretensions to being an establishment catering to high end business clientele and well off tourists.
    Yes, I know. I'm a terrible snob.

Those of us who remember Kings Cross & St Pancras in the 70's will remember dirty squalid train stations and neighbourhood. So to see the upturn in its fortune's is welcome. However, the price being charged for an average room in this hotel is ludicrous - it is charging based upon a quality and reputation it doesn't have or earned. Just because the façade is grand and it's in London doesn't justify that room cost.

I never stayed at the hotel but, I did dine Gilbert Scott several times, it was quite lovely. If you thought St. Pancras is pricey... Definitely stay clear of Manhattan (NYC). Even a run of the mill chain hotel like “Hilton” is going to cost you $260 for a horrid room!

As a former waiter at this place i wouldn't recommend to anyone, the quality of the products serve are very cheap but you are charge top money, i remember serving Escargot from Tin Cans, the standards of the food are very poor.
There are rodents at the Restaurant areas, during night service you would be able to see few running around the corners or quiet spaces at the Restaurant but at the end of service you wouldn't be able to keep count.
At the bar is the same, using left over of champagne to do syrups for cocktails or merging left over from a bottles to other bottles to have a full one .
If you ever visit this place do not pay the service charge , ask to be remove and give it in cash to your server, the company miss guide the good will of costumers, using the service charge to pay people that ain't at the floor as the finance department take a good cut of the service charge.

360E, wow! I've stayed in better equipped and more aesthetically pleasing Hilton Garden Inn's ( sort of Hiltons low-mid budget option for those that don't know).
The architecture is of course stunning but woefully overpriced to say the least.

  • @trapzzy9961

I would never pay 360 euro for that room especially not with that joke of a breakfast buffet. Great video as always though👍

@@luxurytravelexpert unfortunately, London is a very pricey city! To get the 'wow' factor you are looking for in your rooms then I'm afraid you're looking at the exclusive luxury end of the market like Shangri La at the Shard,Bulgari hotel in Knightsbridge,Claridge's in Mayfair, The Wellesley, Knightsbridge etc!

Are you guys really surprised? Yes the building is fantastic but this is still just a Renaissance Hotel which is not a luxury hotel brand. @sarah gill I completely disagree, there are some absolutely wonderful hotels in London. The Ritz, Mandarin, Shangri-La, Rosewood, the list goes on.

You say 360 Euros per night isn't good value, but you're staying at the heart of London travel. The Euston Travellodge is pretty expensive, disgusting inside, but directly outside Euston station. That's just London, unfortunately.

  • @garethbuckeridge6910

Whilst this is my favourite building in the capital, I was dissappointed when staying here in January 2019. The cost of the room for the evening was beyond expensive and in all fairness no better than something I would have received at a Premier Inn for a fraction of the price. While the food in the restaurant (both breakfast & evening meal) was nice, this didn't reflect good value for money either.

Fantastic video, shame about the room. You need to go up to Yorkshire mate. York, Ravenscar, Harrogate, Leeds and Yorkshire Moors areas, with panoramic views from practically any hotel up here.
