In England during the 50's there was a brand of film called "Ealing Comodies" always a wonderful cast of characters stop the closure of a steam railway line etc etc. This is an audio version of those "let's make the village a hip spot" movies. The irony being that that area of Surrey has remained a bastion of privilege and wealth and to this day indulges in the type of NIMBYism the authour / playright is yet to meet / acknowledge.

Eddie Munster Yes Eddie, I’ve been listening to his channel since I discovered him and his first channel on Utube and this is the 3rd one Arch has had his taken down. I think in the past it’s may have been copy write problems but can’t see that this time around with Arch Phoenix. Someone has it in for him! At some point sadly I think he’ll say, that’s it I’ve had enough, having posted his plays 3 times already!!!!!
Whoopee! 👏👏👏👏👏👏Thanks for the above information Eddie, I never thought of doing that!! Yes he’s back and apparently I’m subscribed.. it’s under arch Phoenix Stanton...👍😊

There’s an episode in the wonderful series Foyle’s War which reminds me of this. Developers want to destroy a village green that goes back to the Magna Carta. Foyle mentions that it isn’t just any old green but an archeological site... w plenty of findings... which info saves the Green & the people of Hastings from turning into an ugly “modern” town. Both that & this story show that going forward isn’t always progress. Wonderful, even suspenseful, &, at the end, poetic listening. Many thanks! 👏👏👏

The BBC has changed so much that old fashioned fiction has given way to wholeness so that all we hear is personal angst dressed up as a story. Everybody is dead miserable, with mental health problems and all are portrayed as victims, with men being the oppressors. That's not for me. I can get that at home every day of the week👍
What, Peter are you doing to induce such misery in your household ? How vast is your collection of angst ridden, depressed females ? Is there a cellar that normal, decent folk need to find to liberate your captives ?
@@damarekonayaro5781 Well, I grew up with the BBC when it was trusted by the majority of the British people. It is now just a Woke organisation which is funded by a tax which few wish to pay and which I no longer pay. A bloated organisation with managers and executives who freeloading on that tax. So, I am entitled to look back at the time when the BBC was an organisation to be proud of. What experience do you and your fellow travellers have of the BBC as it was. Nice play. Also tells the machinations of senior folks in government and wealthy are similar in any country of the world. Just screw the ordinary people for their own greed.
From the days when BBC and Rolls Royce stood for the best in the world... Sadly, the former has gone insane, and the latter is owned by the Germans... Enough said?
I usually love these Saturday Night Theatre productions but found this one quite dull and plodding and with a rather suspect underlying message. Essentially we don't care if you go and build your factories and homes somewhere else but not in our back yard.

7th July 1962. It's a dramatisation of John Montgomey's light novel.
