i bought WRC7 for $10 and damn it wasnt worth it, physics felt weird, camera views were lacking and force feedback wasnt great. i coudn't play it even though i bought it for $10! This game looks like it came with all of the above 0.o, graphics wise it didn't look like they did much for the new game, Dirt rally 2 is so much better and it improved upon Dirt rally 1. i wish they would give the WRC licence to another developer.

massive dissapointment with the game being only on epic store (for a year). I liked WRC7 and 8 looks great but i hate epic's policy about trying to make everything exclusive only to them. I will stay with WRC7 or Dirt Rally. Maybe year later when it comes out on steam i will get it.

Great to see WRC games coming along again. I loved the original WRC games on PS2, especially Rally Evolved ( WRC 5). It had everything and the physics were fun snd still quite engaging for what it was. It even looks and sounds better than some PS3 and even PS4 rally games (Vr4, ha) which is completely unbelievable really. Evolution studios had amazing attention to detail and a brilliant ability to utilise the hardware. Look at the draw distances and then consider the random events like breakdowns and storms. This was 2005, fourteen years ago! Come on developers, no excuses, WRC 5 from 2005 proves it.

I give a NO to EPIC and thumbs up to the review. As always GM, great video. As for WRC 8, no buy without a choice of PC platforms. Bought for exclusivity. Used steam to build interest and two weeks before release, Bait N' Switch to EPIC. Shows BigBen doesn't give a crap about the gamers who have supported WRC games. STEAM is so far ahead of EPIC and delivers features EPIC isn't even close.
Such a massive shame, im a HUGE rally fan and was looking forward to this, they at least improved the codriver a little bit, (although he still sounds like a WWI Pilot) but as a PS4 player 30fps is just insane. they talked about all these graphical upgrades in development, yet then couldnt optimize console? in 2019?
haha yeah, i cant argue that the hardware is outdated, but the amount of sims which can run just fine shows, obviously its got to cater to a general audience and graphics are an easy sell.

How many stage each day and country in career mode. Wrc7 not enough or too short e.g day 1 get one long stage . day 2 u get 2 or 3 stage. Day 3 one short

Why on earth nobody is mentioning lack (well, at least really limited choice) of historic cars? For me they are solid part of what makes both Dirts so good... And I even played many many hours in WRC 3 (was it 3?) which has them - despite it was far from brilliant (however was solid for that time and verry gamepad-friendly).
Well, this is Wrc. World rally championship. The focus is on 2019 world rally cars. And that's what rally lovers need. Historic cars are a nice addition, but I honestly care only about wrc cars. So much power and traction!
@@3rdaxis649 the first feature I look at in a racing sim is VR, only then other features matter. I know it's personal but what a difference VR makes! Staring at the monitor and being INSIDE a car, HUGE, MASSIVE difference, still waiting for a Wreckfest to become VR...
@@3rdaxis649 just want to add that PARTICULARLY Rally discipline can take advantage of VR more than circuit racing, because of all varied scenery, sense of speed, jumps etc... Rally + VR = couple with a natural chemistry.
And still Waiting to get released on steam..... Next Month Sept 2020, Already doing the WRC 9 Media Demos, I find that so dis heartening that steam never got WRC 8.. Only Epic Games and Game Consoles.
The weight seems to be a lot like DR1. A bit light. But the tarmac grip and stability seems to be better in WRC8, and to me the stages in WRC8 are just much better looking, with much more far off detail as well. DR2 mostly has all detail within 10 meters or so of the side of the track. Will surely check out WRC8 when it gets to steam and goes on sale. For now we stick with DR2.
Just curious: why not take a minute to download Epic game store if game you want to play is there? I have like 5 of these now: Steam, Origin, UPlay, Bethesda, and now Epic. I just pick whichever one I need for a game and play it

Yup, you're spot on. I've been torrenting (is that even a word) since the internet began. I've torrented everything except for games, for some reason I feel compelled to get legit copies. That being said, I'd rather pirate than buy from Epic Games; they've stolen two games I've been looking forward to, BL3 and WRC8. I think I'm comfortable with that because Epic suck and need exclusives to be relevant if they had the balls to state how well their games sell sans competition why not prove it and allow them to release everywhere... Very few people would buy from them, I can't say that with 100% confidence but I haven't heard any positive reasons to use Epic yet.
I'm surprised to actually be tempted by this. I was expecting it to be too arcady to my taste but it appears they've actually done a good job in general. I like the more realistically muted visuals compared to the oversaturated artificial look of DR2. The lack of VR, though, is a big disappointment for me... The realistic and sometimes narrow tracks reminds me of Mobil 1 British Rally Championship (pre RBR), where they had filmed all the real-world stages with a dash-cam and modelled from that. Also, I don't get all the fuss about it being an Epic Store only. I agree it's not ideal that we as gamers have to deal with different stores to get the games that we like, but I don't think it's that much of a deal. People are overreacting like someone decided to reintroduce gas chambers... It's a game ffs. Get over it... :P

Why does it signify intelligence to only buy from one shop? I mean, while it's convenient to have everything in the same place, there's pretty much no skills and very little effort required to get the game in a different store. You sit in the same chair, behind the same computer, performing the same actions - only difference is that it's in a different piece of software. It's not like you had to transport yourself 30km to one store only to find out that you have to go 20km to a different store to get the game. The only difference here is the stories you tell yourself about it. But are those stories real? And are they really worthwhile?
thats how much time i spend on average waiting for "comunicating with racenet" on dirt rally 2.0. and if thats not bad enough. try doing that in VR. you dont know the meaning of impatient until you have tried that. so frustrating.
Most real-world rally cars have very light steering , unless they are vintage ones , the car is specifically set up to have strong steering or you are crashing. Main thing with a sim is to just get the information and WERC8 has prity good FFB in that regard.

Simucube came up as a listed device in the controller config files :) so I think it should work , also my shifter is a seperate device and that worked so I think it should work !
What is it like compared to WRC 7. It didn't feel good at all, which was my biggest problem. Cars didn't feel realistic. Is this like actually a big jump?

No this game is way harder than Dirt Rally 2, it's free on Xbox right now but so far I don't like it. It's borderline impossible unless you have a wheel.
They might be in Dirt 2.0 and Dirt 1.0 but the actual detail is often a bit lacking , small groves and details in the road are more repeative track surfice often overaly smooth its one of the reasons RBR and custom mod tracks for AC often come across as more realistic they just have more veration in the surfice and feel less repetative. I still like dirt rally 2.0 but I think the graphical style in wrc8 is more realistic.

I'm so absolutely starved for a worthy RBR successor. Is there a demo of this game? Do they even do demos? I have fun in DR, but it's like getting a girlfriend that reminds you of your true love. It's nice, but it's gutting at the same time. I know nothing about modding, but why a rally game couldn't be as moddable as Asseto Corsa etc so the community of amazing talents could "fix" whats lacking, is beyond me. The game would live longer, have a bigger community etc etc.
Although I have no experience doing it, I know you can get rally in assetto corsa, and on the case that you already did that well, maybe modding beamng might help

Probably due to ps4 and xboxone being REALLLY slow but yep I agree would be better for them to massively cut graphics than to run at 30fps on console.

Played a few stages in career mode with an Xbox One gamepad. I like the game but the default car setups are way too stiff

Just curious: why not take a minute to download Epic game store if game you want to play is there? I have like 5 of these now: Steam, Origin, UPlay, Bethesda, and now Epic. I just pick whichever one I need for a game and play it

Awesome and informative review!!! Finally the WRC Licence get his well deserved simulator and i sincerely hope they keep this as an strong fundament for future updates! Still one question and love to have some clearance of that. Will there be Motion Platform V3 support in the near future?? All sims support this but WRC seems off again in that area!

How about external USB peripherals? Handbrake, seq shifters, pedals... Didn't get for example a USB Handbrake to work on WRC7

Yepp, the stages really catch your eye and that's what DR1+2 really lack, specially when you come a long way via RBR....as WRC has always been considered arcadish it completely fell under my radar, damn...

Yup, you're spot on. I've been torrenting (is that even a word) since the internet began. I've torrented everything except for games, for some reason I feel compelled to get legit copies. That being said, I'd rather pirate than buy from Epic Games; they've stolen two games I've been looking forward to, BL3 and WRC8. I think I'm comfortable with that because Epic suck and need exclusives to be relevant if they had the balls to state how well their games sell sans competition why not prove it and allow them to release everywhere... Very few people would buy from them, I can't say that with 100% confidence but I haven't heard any positive reasons to use Epic yet.

I'm surprised to actually be tempted by this. I was expecting it to be too arcady to my taste but it appears they've actually done a good job in general. I like the more realistically muted visuals compared to the oversaturated artificial look of DR2. The lack of VR, though, is a big disappointment for me...
The realistic and sometimes narrow tracks reminds me of Mobil 1 British Rally Championship (pre RBR), where they had filmed all the real-world stages with a dash-cam and modelled from that.
Also, I don't get all the fuss about it being an Epic Store only. I agree it's not ideal that we as gamers have to deal with different stores to get the games that we like, but I don't think it's that much of a deal. People are overreacting like someone decided to reintroduce gas chambers... It's a game ffs. Get over it... :P
Epic are just waving cash around trying to get exclusives to get people to their platform. Smart people will stay away, steam is all we need.

Why does it signify intelligence to only buy from one shop? I mean, while it's convenient to have everything in the same place, there's pretty much no skills and very little effort required to get the game in a different store. You sit in the same chair, behind the same computer, performing the same actions - only difference is that it's in a different piece of software. It's not like you had to transport yourself 30km to one store only to find out that you have to go 20km to a different store to get the game. The only difference here is the stories you tell yourself about it. But are those stories real? And are they really worthwhile?

thats how much time i spend on average waiting for "comunicating with racenet" on dirt rally 2.0. and if thats not bad enough. try doing that in VR. you dont know the meaning of impatient until you have tried that. so frustrating.

Most real-world rally cars have very light steering , unless they are vintage ones , the car is specifically set up to have strong steering or you are crashing. Main thing with a sim is to just get the information and WERC8 has prity good FFB in that regard.

Simucube came up as a listed device in the controller config files :) so I think it should work , also my shifter is a seperate device and that worked so I think it should work !

What is it like compared to WRC 7. It didn't feel good at all, which was my biggest problem. Cars didn't feel realistic. Is this like actually a big jump?

No this game is way harder than Dirt Rally 2, it's free on Xbox right now but so far I don't like it. It's borderline impossible unless you have a wheel.

WRC8 is out while I am still playing WRC3 and no I am not kiding
I don't know about this games stages, but the stages in Dirt Rally 2.0 (and the original Dirt Rally) are all real stages.
They might be in Dirt 2.0 and Dirt 1.0 but the actual detail is often a bit lacking , small groves and details in the road are more repeative track surfice often overaly smooth its one of the reasons RBR and custom mod tracks for AC often come across as more realistic they just have more veration in the surfice and feel less repetative.
I still like dirt rally 2.0 but I think the graphical style in wrc8 is more realistic.

I recommend picking up a pair of racing gloves. It will give you better grip and will help with the alcantara. (Had the same problem before)

I'm so absolutely starved for a worthy RBR successor. Is there a demo of this game? Do they even do demos? I have fun in DR, but it's like getting a girlfriend that reminds you of your true love. It's nice, but it's gutting at the same time.
I know nothing about modding, but why a rally game couldn't be as moddable as Asseto Corsa etc so the community of amazing talents could "fix" whats lacking, is beyond me. The game would live longer, have a bigger community etc etc.
Although I have no experience doing it, I know you can get rally in assetto corsa, and on the case that you already did that well, maybe modding beamng might help
