I'd love to see a comparison video of Edwards and shires alessi trombone

This trombone sounded better than any I have heard on the videos here. It seemed to me that this trombone would work in a Big Band, Combo, or Orchestral setting. You sounded great on this horn. I really thought it was the best sounding trombone I have heard.

You sound really good on that Trombone Keith.
I really like the centred sound. I’m looking forward to trying one also.

I'm surprised how much I liked the sound, especially up higher and at forte levels. Very impressed. Glad that things are going well for Shires and Alessi (and Schmitt's of course).

I went in to try this model and a young man and his dad purchased it minutes after I arrived and walked out with it. I was really hoping to try it out. Early bird gets the worm as they say.

Thank you for the video Keith! May you do a comparison between the Alessi Q Series and the Shries Q30YA? Which one do you believe is better and easier to play? Thank you!

What are the differences between the Q serious and the custom?

Keith, sounds great! I know you’ve previously mentioned doing a comparison of the Shires Q series tenors TBQ30GA and TBQ30YA. Is that coming up? I have the TBQ30GA and it’s great!

The F valve tubes are opposite from the Custom series (crosses over itself), does that make a difference in the feel?

Sherman1fan the custom series tubes don’t cross over. One photo by shires did, but everything else was identical to the Q series tubes. The custom series model that joe plays doesn’t cross over too

How does it compare to the Edwards?

Thanks so much for this review! I'm pretty much sold on this horn. Any thoughts on how the Q series (esp. the Joe Alessi model) plays with others? I play with a lot of Bachs, Yamahas and Conn and wonder if I will blend in a brass section or mixed ensemble. Thanks in advance!

I have never tried the BOF, but I own the 42AG and it's a great horn.

what are the differences between the alessi Q series and the alessi custom model?

    • @SchmittMusicTromboneShop

While from my understanding the QAlessi bell is slightly different then the Custom (I believe the Custom Alessi may have some extra bell treatment and and subtle difference in taper and weight) the biggest differences are in the building, with the Q series being built primarily by the Eastman crafts folks while the Customs are built entirely by the SE Shires team. The playing and sound differences between them are subtle but noticeable, with the Custom having a bit more ease of play, sound complexity and overall maturity but it is close and both of them are awesome IOHO...

Would it be a good upgrade from Eastman ETB828?
