Harmonium is a Quebec band! They had 3 albums and a live album in the 70s. Their 3rd album (the one after this one) is noted for being the most expensive French Canadian album to ever be produced at the time. They toured with Supertramp in the late 70s and then they seemed to have vanished! Looking forward to hearing from people who know more. The lead singer’s voice is one of my favorites

Serge Fiori, the singer/song writer/guitarist of the band never wanted to be famous and could not handle fame. He completely left the public scene. He did make an album with Richard Séguin after Harmonium called Deux cent nuits à l’heure that is just amazing and well worth a listen.

They did vanish. However, I think that this is what helped build their fame here. I'm from Québec. Been living there my whole life. When I was young (I'm from the 90s), my mom was playing L'Heptade often. If you want to hear something (although not similar at all) that is pretty much unknown outside of Québec, but a kind-of prog-ish band from the 90s, I suggest to you Les Colocs. Especially the album "Dehors Novembre", which is a gem.

The composer, Serge Fiori, was 22 when he composed this piece. He's a genius. Unfortunately, some health problems affected his carrer - he had to quit the scene too soon (he's still alive though, he's 71).

It's so nice to see people discover this music. It is what Rolling Stone Magazine had to say when they did their 50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time in 2015 and that album at number 36 (Ok lists are lists):
''For their second record, French-Canadian folk guitar trio Harmonium expanded into a symphonic quintet, adding woodwinds and keyboards to flesh out a concept album based on the four seasons (and a fantastical fifth). The first side is all pastoral warmth, with guitarist Serge Fiori's sweet-nothings croon, and jazzy asides. Elegant stuff, but only a warm-up for the side-two centerpiece "Histoires sans paroles," which is 17 minutes of cyclical flute themes, Mellotron haze, and billowing vocal harmonies (featuring guest Judi Richards). In 2007, journalist Bob Mersereau ranked Si On Avait Number 56 in his book The Top 100 Canadian Albums. But he may have undersold the album - it's the pinnacle of the entire folk-prog movement. R.R."
    Cheers from Montreal!

I saw this record for $50 bucks when I was 17 and had no idea what was on it. My buddy bought it for me for Christmas because we were both so into the album art. What was on it really ended up being one of my favorite albums of all time. I brought it to college with me and showed a lot of people it over the 4 years. I feel like I save my progress in a video game every time I put it on now. It just turned into something very special in my friend group and I’m so glad I could share it with you two.

Great reaction! As a 61 years old French Canadian, this was a part of my musical youth, this group was so good incompassing Folk and Progessive, it's a shame TH-cam Reactors don't listen to them because they sing in French, but their first self intitled album from 1974 is a masterpiece of melodies and acoustic guitar while being progressive, and their 3rd Album is even more progressive, they're so good but I'm not holding my breath, most reactors won't listen unless it's English, a shame really, their loss...

70's pastoral prog from Montreal, did not expect this here!
Harmonium's first album was very much folk-rock, no instrumentals, more in the CSN&Y/James Taylor mold, whereas this one is very much influenced by prog à la Genesis/Yes/Strawbs, and their third one, a double-album, is a full on prog concept album (with drums!). All three were platinum in Canada, they were huge. There is a sorta fourth album with much of the same players, called Fiori/Séguin, titled Deux Cents Nuits à l'Heure. The main player, Fiori, released a few solo albums.

You can hear Harmonium's influences here. Early Genesis, especially their folk sounding second album Trespass. Jethro Tull and early King Crimson (on songs like I talk to the wind or Moonchild).
The concept, of course is based on Vivaldi's Four seasons with them adding their fifth.
The fifth season represented by this song is, without doubt, the centerpiece of the album, both in length and musically, but the album is not one trick poney, it is beautiful from beginning to end.
Granted, this song is on a whole other level.
It's the perfect storm where musical talent, imagination and I guess, the right period, all come together nicely to give a result of such beauty that you are transported to another place, one of calm and peace.
This is simply one of the most beautiful piece of music ever created and that a French Canadian group is behind it is something they can be proud of as this album can stand proudly shoulder to shoulder with such albums as Close to the Edge of Selling England by the Pound, or even Wish you were here.
This song is so beautiful that I don't think any words can accurately describe its beauty.

What you called moments are actually movements in the classical sense and Harmonium manages to blend folk and classical music using guitar, flute, piano for percussion. Some of their songs are really long, for example Vien Danser which means Come and Dance. My favorite is Depuis L' Automne. 10 minutes long, half of it is instrumental. You guys need to sit in reclining leather chairs for this type of music. Awesome group from Quebec, Canada, still popular.

Surely one of the best of their songs. The only thing living me on my appetite with this one is that Fiori doesn’t sing.

Bonjour, Harmonium was the number one band in Québec in the '70. I would say it's more folk prog than rock prog, because they were mainly acoustic instruments musicians...their first album is totally acoustic....in their second, they have introduce some electric instruments and in the last one, there's more synth and electric guitar...the last one called "l'heptade" is a concept album about the quest to elevate your spirit thru the search of peace in your soul....those were the hippy years after all....they were using a lot of vocals as an instrument....I sent you one song of their first and second album, one song of their third album and one that the leader of the group (Serge Fiori) recorded with another Québec musician (Richard Séguin) but was played with most of the Harmonium musiciens....I also send you a link to know a little bit more about the story of this band...if you're really interested I could send you traduction of the lyrics....I hope I haven"t made to much mistake in writing in english because I'm a french mother tongue guy....so I hope you will enjoy....even if you don't make reaction video out of it.
