    That hit by Mecklenburg on Marcus Allen was one of the most vicious I ever saw until Atwater came along, and was a feature highlight on local Bronco shows for years. Plunkett completely left Allen out to dry on that pass and Meck leveled the hell out of him.

    Okoye's career went down the toilet after that hit. He was very hyped, people supposedly couldn't stop him. Atwater knocked him on his ass and I think it disintegrated his confidence.

    • @scottjohnson7877
      @scottjohnson7877 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A combo of the Atwater hit & knee injuries are what ultimately ended the career of Christian Okoye. 260lbs is simply TOO MUCH WEIGHT/PRESSURE on the human knee joint... The knees can only take so much pressure/weight before they ultimately fail/give out.

    • @fredharvey2720
      @fredharvey2720 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scottjohnson7877 True but I recall his performance after that hit fell off like it did something mentally.

    • @scottjohnson7877
      @scottjohnson7877 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fredharvey2720 You're correct but Okoye spent significant time on IR (Injured Reserve) due to several knee injuries as well. Too much weight for his knees to carry + the Atwater hit = end of career in the NFL.

      The most feared safety tandem of the 80s, if not all time. DS49 came from the university of safteys cause concussions winning a national title with Ronnie Lott a SC. Atwater was the new generation of fast hard hitting safeties, a raw talent that was a perfect understudy to become the hardest hitting most feared safety of all time. From ending the Nigerian nightmare's career on mnf to his triple ko in SB XXXII. I mean c'mon "he heard footsteps" was a common phrase for commentators like EnBerg and Olsen

    Thx for #9 that Kenoy Kennedy vs Chris Chambers hit is hard to find , also thank god for TH-cam as for many years I thought I was the only one who remembered the time that Dennis Smith killed the Roosevelt Potts hype train just as Atwater did to Okoye.
    If I remember right that game was the 3rd or 4th of RPs rookie year and he had been a big surprise in the first quarter of that season w/ having a few 100 yd games of powerful running. It was right around the time in a season when announcers/etc first start up their ROY talk & then Blammo - Dennis Smith.

    #2 Hit - Steve Atwater SB32 Last Drive Hit. I feel very bad for Robert Brooks as all of his fingers are pointing in all the wrong directions. Atwater & Hilliard likely get concussed but RB had other non-head problems. He also did show his awareness & toughness by getting up and off in a timely manner to hopefully preserve GBs last time out from being taken for an injured player.
    In the end they charged both sides a TO as while RB got up and off - the ref(s),has to notice his hand as he left the field and he was also ruled “injured”.

    Most of these hits are illegal now. I get it's for safety but the game use to be more fun to watch.

    Gnat with a bat Steve Atwater deserves to be #1

    Compare Atwater's tackling stats with HOF Brian Urlacher. Coulda had more 70's and 80s hits. Remember Micheal Brooks knocking out Al Toon?

      I wish I had more footage from the 70’s, but I completely forgot that Michael Brooks Hit even happened tbh. Amazing hit tho, probably could’ve made the list

    I was an Elway and Manning fan. The Broncos are so poor now that these rendition videos are from over a decade ago when the Broncos were a good team.

    Too bad 23 can hit anything like this and actually needs to learn to tackle.

    Love the Broncos, but posting penalties as best hits of all time is some dumbass Raider shit.

    More like 15 dirty hits and 5 clean ones. But Atwater is a legend.

    • @denverbroncosarchive2263
      @denverbroncosarchive2263  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      15 dirty hits what? There’s only like 3-4 dirty hits on here

    • @aaronavard9363
      @aaronavard9363 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      None of these were dirty hits before the rules were changed

      Aaron Avard touché, but I’d still put about 4-5 in the dirty category. I’ll have to go through and rewatch.

      This is a violent game and these grown men know what they are signing up for when they decide to make millions of dollars to play at this level. I would rather see advancements in safety equipment than rule changes which profoundly affect the gameplay and function on the premise that a world class athlete can stop in mid air to avoid striking a "defenseless" player whom is covered in protective gear.

    I feel for Cam but I'm sorry, that wasn't a foul. Barrett couldn't do anything about it, Cam put his head down last second.
