One of Maxim Vengerov's most profound masterclasses on TH-cam, so much in it. You sense his movingly deep love of this music, making him so demanding, but in a very kind way. Certainly not easy to digest for Riana, who may still feel at the base of Mount Everest in this lesson after having come a long way. She is a wonderful violinist and greatly kept focus during this lesson. The lack of a big auditorium may have contributed to the intimate atmosphere, more like in a personal lesson than in a public masterclass. We cannot thank enough the Mozarteum for making publicly available these Vengerov masterclasses for free. You are doing a great service to the music world!

@Pablo de Sarasate Of course he is speaking German - which as I said is the thing I could learn , meanwhile he's one of greatest performers of our time - and that's much harder matter to study :-)

Und die Studentin setzt seine Vorschläge echt super gut um, und die Unterschiede in ihrem Spiel sind phänomenal. Einfach genial, ihm zuzuhören. Und er hat auch eine echt feine Wahrnehmung. So sehr ich Maestro Vengerov bewundere - das Thema der Chaconne so in Bruchstücke zu zehacken ist der Spielweise des frühen zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts und der Unterrichts- und Spielweise eines Carl Flesch geschuldet, der sogar noch explizit ("ich kann nicht anders") den Originaltext von Bach zu verbessern meinte, indem er einzelne Töne zu Akkorden erweiterte um "die Grandeur und Power des Themas zu unterstreichen.
Und das klingt dann wie ein Sänger mit Atemschwierigkeiten, der nach jedem Ton nach Luft schnappt. (was Maestro Vengerov bei seinen Erklärungen auch tatsächlich macht)

I am also confused why she plays so "chopped up", it stops all the time with the beat and the continuous line is missing. She's still very good, but what a huge difference when Maxim plays 😅😅

@@embvl1380 There is a video of Gitlis playing the Chaconne here on TH-cam. His sound is harsh and his rhythms somewhat erratic but the thing is ALIVE. It is the best Chaconne I ever heard.

She has very good tone but she has to deepen interpretation. Now it is too flat and mechanical. This is Bach and Chaconne for gods sake - every note is full of meaning. You can't just play it through
