Absolutely firm & honest decision from our Benjamin White, everyone has a right to make personal decisions. He also is disinterested on football outside of training & playing games, I didn’t like that he didn’t know who Patrick Viera was, but respect to the guy who wants to have a life outside of work & not make work/ social media his life. It’s rare to find this type of honest, simple, professional person in any walk of life these days. Arsenal players have already said, he’s one of the loveliest, funniest and most popular colleague at work. Let it be that way as long as Ben White wants it to be that way. 👏👏👏

Ben is right , the context is : in 21/22 Ben played well as CB for Arsenal before that, he had just had a good two seasons with Leeds and Brighton and in 22 before Qatar he has played 16 good games as RB,, now on the other hand Maguire had been awful fo two consecutive awful seasons, Walker was being benched by his team while Stone was being converted to this Mid-role, so Ben deserved a starting line up but Southgate chose Maguire/Stones over him, in all group stage games,,, so if he felt that was a disrespect to him by all means ,, until a coach that is going to choose a team based on current form Ben has the right to step aside until right coach take up

Let's have it right, firstly Maguire has had one poor season and that was the season where 95% of the utd team were poor and secondly Maguire not only plays well for England but in fact excels in the shirt so if you're talking current form then Maguire is in form 🤷
It took stones a long time to get his act together for both city and England but the last couple years he's formed a good partnership with Maguire and as for walker, well he's head and shoulders a better RB than white, probably England's all time greatest RB.
My advice to white would be to leave his ego at the door and be there to help the team both on and off the pitch.

He's a shocking manager and should not be leading us into the Euros. He was lucky to be our gaffer in Qatar but assuming Ben White is Southgate's fault is dumb considering the likes of Bellingham, Walker, Rice, Trent, Kane, Saka, Foden (I could go on) have never had an issue with playing under him.
For your national team you play for the shirt and your country first. Everything else is secondary.
Also notice how during previous squad announcements, when White clearly deserved to be called up, they never asked Southgate why he wasn’t picked

They can basically fill the England starting XI with starters from Man City and Arsenal plus Kane and Jude - both sides dominate playing a high line.

The issue is not that he does not want to play for England. The issue is Seve Holland. There was a big bust up between him and Holland at the WC and White has not forgiven him. Southgate is lying and does not want to talk about the real issues.
He said there is absolutely no issue between them but Ben White doesn’t feel to let him know directly he doesn’t want to play the friendlies. Southgate is definitely lying about what is going on he’s been to multiple Arsenal games this year and hasn’t even tried to fix the issue with Ben
People don’t realise that it involves a lot of hard training and alot of travelling just to not get picked over someone who’s not playing at the same level as you. I probably say no in the same situation!

Ben White is a quiet individual that allows action to do his talking. He is naturally reticent so Southgate's job is to understand his player's proclivities and bring the best out of the individual. No point in taking a player to a comp if you dont give them a chance or believe in them. I can understand if the player is young but we're talking about one of the most consistently in-form RBs of the league for the past 2 seasons
How do you know Southgate wouldn't give him a chance in these friendlies? Even that aside, just being in the England camp, experiencing how it operates, being around the players, training to southgates tactics etc these all have merit.
Southgate is all about the culture and mentality of his squads and I hate to say it but White strikes me as being a bit weak mentally IF the reason he's refused is because he thinks his playtime will be limited

@@djmattblack I get that and I get he is a good player who would start for a lot of the 'big' (successful) national sides but this England squad is brimming with talent, particularly at cb and rb. I fully agree Maguire shouldn't be near that England squad and White should be ahead of him period.
BUT if we disregard Southgate for the sake of this argument ( I said Arteta for a reason) there are still 3 rb's ahead of him, if not 2 (if James is still injured) and 4 CB's ahead of him.

No we love competitive international football not friendlies mid season. It may seem like all hate it but it's mainly fans of the bigger clubs who send most players out on international games for them to potentially get injured.
During the tournaments many workplaces will allow the games to be watched. Some smaller businesses may close on england games etc. The country virtually stops for the games.
Of course you hate international breaks.
In all your domestic sports you claim to be “world champions” despite the fact your teams only play against other teams based in the same country 😂

It seems more like he is unwilling to play under Southgate rather than not wanting to play for England. Whatever the case may be, it's unlikely that we'll ever know the full story.
The Athletic reported that it was Southgate’s assistant coach Steve Holland who accused him of not giving his all in training, and used a quote he made in an interview years ago saying he only cares about football when he’s playing against him.
This guy plays under Arteta, who demands the best from all his players, if you don’t give the best, you get going.
The day Southgate decided to throw White under the bus Arsenal announced his contract extension alongside all his teammates talking about how how good and hardworking a teammate he is.

He is on record as saying he does not enjoy football the same way most fans and players do. He never watches games that are on TV. He likes to spend his downtime completely free from football so he can come back to it refreshed. It should not be surprising that he just decided he wanted time away from the game since there is a chance for a break.

Something big clearly happened and tbh I'd respect Gareth more if he was just honest about it admitting both sides handled it badly and apologising for his part. Haaland got injured during a friendly and he was unavailable to City for several weeks as a result. He may still be affected by it. Why would any player, who is considered important for a club that is in a title fight even consider risking the same, and for friendlies no less. That would be totally reckless.
