The point about holding grudges is incredibly relatable 😂 I simply don’t have the time or patience anymore to do so. The ability to go “that sucked, won’t be talking to that person again… moving on!” has made life so much happier. And even the part about fiction, having the ability to be able to say “this ain’t for me, but that doesn’t mean it’s Bad” is something I wish was more commonplace on The Internet™️. When I was younger I definitely invested more time into things like ship wars and discourse (ugh) and growing a bit and learning to just enjoy what I enjoy and focus on that joy makes life so much easier. Oh the memories 😅

    • @Carrie
      @Carrie  ปีที่แล้ว +18

Omg yes! The “this isn’t for me but that doesn’t mean it’s bad” is a viewpoint often missing from conversations! Even about people! “I wouldn’t make that choice for me but that doesn’t mean it’s a wrong choice!”. Ahhh nuance! ♥️

This is so funny to me because I remember watching this video when it came out when I was 17 and thinking you were so cool and relatable and now watching as a 27 year old, I think the same about you now! It’s fun growing up alongside creators in a way. This made me nostalgic for a time when I ached to be quirky and had very few responsibilities. Thanks for sharing pieces of your life with me and the rest of your audience for so long!

The contrast of the smaller Carrie who I first watched versus the Carrie you've matured and grown into was ineffably nostalgic and slightly magical in a way I can't honestly put words to. Whilst no-one can deny that you have this air of wiseness and nuance about you now, and perhaps you're slightly more... self-sure? Comfortable in who you are?... there's still an unshakeable foundation of what drew me to the various platforms and exploits of Carrie Hope Fletcher in the first place, years ago. I also really admire how you didn't insult the you from ten tears ago, if that makes sense? (I probably couldn't.) It's very easy to look back and dismiss the people we used to be and what mattered to them but they obviously played a very large hand in who we are now. Now, I certainly don't practice what I preach and would rather forget large chunks of life that younger me decided were good ideas, but I think we should smile at (like you did, rather sweetly!) rather than be embarassed of past versions of ourselves. Because whatever mistakes they made or however naive they may have been, without them you wouldn't be the person you are today, and they can be very adorable to watch, especially in your case! ❤❤

My brain definitely does the same shutting down thing with numbers.
Really shows how the core of your personality remains while the more immature parts like keeping grudges or fantasizing fall away or at least become less intense as you grow into yourself, take on more responsibilities and use your energy a bit more wisely.

I definitely agree with the holding grudges part - as I've gotten older (at the time of writing, I'm 28 - closer to 29 now oh god) I've found it so much more rewarding to wish my enemies well. My therapist taught me this about two years ago when I was healing from a bad friendship, and she asked me to do a role-play of a final conversation with this friend, and at the end she asked me to wish her well. Now I've been able to wish her and several other people who have done me wrong well. I'm still harbouring a lot of anger at one person who was in my life, but the reason I still do is because they had every ability to earn that form of respect, but they haven't. All I can hope is that they're realised what a horrible person they were to me, and are taking steps to do better. Wishing my enemies well has brought me a lot of peace and understanding, and it's paying dividends for my mental health.

Grudges are interesting as you get older aren’t they? I feel like the question of “do I forgive them” goes from the central question to a question that doesn’t feel like the right one. There are people where it’s like, to say I forgive them or want them in my life is wrong but to say I don’t forgive them is also wrong because I’ve let go of the resentment and anger.

Wow. I cant believe its been so long. Feels like the time flew by, but I have been watching your videos since the beginning. We have both grown so much but its nice to see that some things haven't changed. (Horray for upping the book count! Im a book dragon too! 😂)
Ps. What is the Sonder Society? I feel like I missed something. I just turned 40 so maybe im started to lose the plot? 😂I know its one of your fav words so im assuming it's something u created, Carrie.

You may not be good at math, but you’re an excellent speaker, singer and actress.

I’m shocking at maths too. Can’t even do basic times tables. I’m always counting on my fingers.

I abhor math and wasn't good at higher math. Enjoyed vlog. A couple of questions: will their be a cd for Crown Jewels? If you were offered a role in Wicked, would you prefer Elphaba or Glenda? Will Crown Jewels extend its run? And lastly are you working on your next book? Take care. Best to you and Joel.

Sorry if this is crossing a boundary, for context I also have this condition and related very much to how you described your experienced with maths, but what you described with numbers kind of sounds like dyscalculia! I can’t hold numbers in my head, my brain just can’t process them and never managed to get above a D at GCSE

If you haven’t heard of it, it’s kind of like dyslexia but with numbers

I was just thrown back 10 years to when I was living at home with my parents, dating my ex-boyfriend and trying to figure out where in the world I was going!
What you say about the mat reminds me of dyscalcelia (?). It's like dyslexia but for numbers. It doesn't exactly match, but it's very similar. And while I don't think it's something you need to investigate based on what you're working on, I just want to mention it. It is not as well known as dyslexia and if what you are saying reminds someone else, it might lead to someones life beeing a bit simpler if they find you they suffer from it.

I bear grudges. If someone hurts me I do not forgive them.
I'm not a hugger but I will happily respond to a hug from someone I care about.
I don't like people touching my feet - God help me if I ever need to go to a chiropodist. :)
Maths was never my best subject but I am basically numerate.
I think I am both a book worm and a book dragon as I have many books and also read a lot.
