Quick tip from a carpenter.
On the skirting mitres,
Do all the returns and Mitre-Bond them together first,
Then fix the skirting to the wall as one continuous length.
The same goes for the Architraves, cut all three lengths of architraves Mitre-Bond them together and you will get the joints flush and tight,
Then fix them to the frames.
Keep up the good work.
Ps I'm in the same situation doing up a 1970's house with a minefield of hidden surprises to get over.
Great tips. All the best with your house 👍
Addicted to these video of you doing your gaff up. Keep em coming
Thanks, will do!
The external add ons / extensions with their lack of symmetry on this 70's monster are doing my swede in.
00:02:15 Great use of the bread knife ( I mean flue cutter!) 😂
Haha
I love it!!! The only thing I would change is the painting behind your sofa (last part of your video). I wasn’t sure about the colour but wow amazing!!! 🎉
Thanks a lot 😊
I think the next video you should do is installing a new heating system
Fantastic job looks amazing. Thank you for your videos
Thanks for watching!
I stumbled onto your channel and decided to subscribe. I designed and helped build my own home as well as two later additions. Like you I learned and did a lot of the work myself. I also learned over the years that it's easter to live with your own mistakes then someone else's that you paid for.
I live in the US and find it fascinating with the English words used that we use a different word to describe the same article. Examples "skirting" vs base boards, "electrics" vs wiring,
and "sockets" vs plates or covers.
I like the splash of color on the walls, however it's not one I would have chosen. Your "boss" probably has furnishings to bring the room all together
One last thing the government gets their share when it comes to permits, inspections and what ever else they can extract from you.
Keep up the good work as it's interesting and enjoyable.
Thanks a lot for sharing 😊
Keep going in the house!!
💪
as another comment has said, hanging doors would be a good video
Oh I wonder who’s going to win? Your Mrs or your viewers to what gets done next😂 Probably want to tackle the outdoor workshop before the weather gets too bad, but I think the inside jobs will probably be a higher priority for others 😝
Haha I think you maybe right!
Spray those rads. Quick sand down. Haftprimer and Everal aqua 40 👌🏻
Thanks 😊
Cracking job. Glad to see you laying the flooring before the skirtings. Nothing worse than a siliconed joint.
Very true!
The Dancing Peacock color is lovely 💙
Not to my style and taste but your work is great and it's nice to see more people take pride in their homes
Thanks a lot 👍
Great job. I would say do the workshop next. It'll make the rest of the renovation much easier
Thanks a lot 👍👍
So watchable mate! Great vids thanks. Learning loads and just in awe of what a grafter you are! I hope my Mrs never sees these! ☺️👍
Thanks a lot! I try 👍
Now then I'm sat here looking at the side of my fire place ! And guess what !! I just painted it with Dancing peacock and like you i was not sure of the colour !! Is it blue 🤔 Is it green? 🤔...🤣🤣 now seeing it on your vid I'm diving in all the way 👍Fantastic job, great vidios every time top man keep them comming👍
Cheers larry
Thanks Larry my fellow dancing peacock 🦚
Another great video, as for the next one, indoors or out they are all interesting and you present them so clearly, I enjoy them all. keep them coming!
Glad you like them!
Honestly. I can’t entirely knock the 70’s style. It’s very focused on strong patterns and natural materials in the art nouveau mixed with 60’s modernism style of 70’s furniture. It does give you something to look at with it’s bold patterns and shapes.
The greens and browns are faded nowadays. They might be an improvement on the original bright colours.
But a 70’s room has to have a fair bit of input from the person decorating it to match furniture and drapes and carpets.
So each 70’s house varies a lot in how well it comes together as a living space that is also not an eyesore.
The redecoration of the room is successful. But it also a blank slate. It is 70% pure white. It somewhat resembles and Apple store and is quite neutral. But as a buyer it good because it inofensive.
I’m not saying it’s bland but it does lack personal touches that give a room personality.
It might be interesting to actually use some 70’s antiques to add decoration and pay homage to the heritage of the house when it was built.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 👍
Fantastic job 👍🏻👌🏻
Thanks a lot 😊
Crack on with the rest of the house, it keep the wife happy also 😂. Great job on the lounge look fantastic.
Thanks 👍
fantastic job pal
Thank you kindly
If having the workshop will make the rest of the renovation easier then I think it makes sense to do that first. Very much enjoying this series and your channel 😊
Very true! Thanks a lot
Love it!
Thanks!!
thanks enjoyable channel with great tips
Thanks for watching!
Do the dining room!
Mate; senior management always chooses a color that you are unfamiliar with. That's another reason why you love them!
😂true
The room looks great! Thanks for sharing this video.
wall and floor are perfect match.
Cheers 👍 I think so too
Good job!
Thanks!
Very nice work mate
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work mate you’ve done a good job
Great informative videos. thanks. Workshop next please!
Coming soon!
Keep em coming, superb stuff 👍🏼
Thanks, will do!
Wow, I like the random colour!
I’ve never been a fan of Dulux emulsion, wether it be their trade or DIY quality paints, I always use Crown Vinyl Matt for white and mist coating new plaster, for ceilings I now always use Zinsser Perma white as it’s just bomb proof and as white as white can be!
Then for colour emulsions I only use Crown Clean extreme with mostly F&B or Little Greene RALs as Crown do pretty much any current RAL that’s about right now, the paint itself is great to apply, i chuck in 250mm water to every 5L can and it goes on beautifully. After two good coats once it’s set, can be cleaned with ease and touched up no problem, the Matt finish is really nice, it’s flat but not super chalky like F&B which is a pain to keep mark free!
Love the front room, looks ace, fire looks smart, what was the cost of the burner with installation?
Thanks for sharing! The burner was 3k with hearth but that was with a reduced price due to the feature within the video(I’m very lucky and grateful to be in that position)
These videos are great. You should be attracting a lot more views. I'm an ex flooring fitter and didn't know we had evolved to looselay vinyl tiles as out of the game for 15 years. Used to fit amtico and karndean glued. Great to see this and thanks for sharing the tips.
Glad you like the content and tips 😊
It looks really good! But a tip to elevate the room mode is to move the curtain rode higher up on the wall, right underneath the ceiling. That will make ceiling in the room look just as high as the teal walls.☺️
Thanks for the idea!
Love the teal/white contrast. You are bang on about dulux though, they need to up their game. Loving the series. 👍
Thanks. I think so too!
100% wanna see a modern Kitchen
Coming in the future 😊
Looks incredible, you should tip your hat at the boss for selecting that colour on the walls. Wasn't sure about the matt black fixtures but I actually really like them seeing them on the walls
Great job buddy .love your work very helpful videos
Very creative...Keep the videos coming. 🙂
Thank you, I will
Great job it looks fantastic.
Thank you!
Definitely another room. Im absolutely loving this project so far 😊

Looking so much better, bet the family's relieved to have some more living space!
They are! Cheers
What a difference,beautiful
You'll have added such value to your house ... and for minimal cost for your efforts. Well done buddy
Thanks John glad you like the result
looks Great !!!!
Cheers 👍
Loving the videos on you transforming the old house into a beautiful new home for your family, the work you have done in your living room is absolutely beautiful!!!!!!
Thank you very much! Glad you like the videos
Colour is called teal bud! My favourite paint is Farrow and Ball always found it easy to deal with and tends to last. I think upper management have made an amazing choice as it really breaks up the room nicely. I am torn about what next but I think the workshop would be good idea and maybe after the dining room?
Cheers for your thoughts 👍
Though I kinda wish upper management asked them to choose what ever color because it unfair to force them on a color they might not like.
Top notch, my vote: I'd like to see you continue with the next room. Great video!
Thanks 🙏
Looks great! We’re currently purchasing a 70s house, hoping to be in within a couple months and so glad we’ve found your channel as we want to do most of it ourselves!
We’d love to see bathroom renovation next if possible 😁
Glad your enjoying the content. Bathroom Reno is in the pipeline but not quite yet. Good luck with yours
Looks great. Am loving following your reno - such a clever guy!
Thanks so much!
Unreal job!!!
Cheers 🍻
Defo keep the better half happy 😂 on to the next room .
Haha! That’s what it’s all about
Looks brilliant well done
Thanks a lot
Looks incredible, I’m afraid “ Her indoors or She Who Must Be Obeyed” was correct!
I think she was too(but I don’t tell her that) 😂
Excellent work my friend
Thank you! Cheers!
Kitchen and bathroom videos for sure. Then the workshop perhaps?
Keep up the graft. Solid effort my man!
Thanks a lot for the G’up
Really good,I'm currently renovating a 1970s bungalow and just put a burner in, so good to see some tips
Glad I could help
It looks amazing mate 👏 Great work well done huge difference before and after
Thanks a ton!
It looks amazing great job loved the video.
Thank you so much!!
Love this series of videos looking forward to the next one looking forward to seeing what you do with the kitchen and bathroom. If you're going to remain your rad's I would love to see how you do that as mine could do with repainting. Keep up the great work
Thanks, great suggestion
Recently brought our first house, built in the 30's these videos are very helpful! The bathroom is the first room to be Renovated!
Good luck 👍
Looks great mate love the wood burner and the feature walls 🤔👏😎
Thanks 👍
I love the new look lounge!
Thanks 😊
Great video - very inspiring. That log burner will kick out a massive amount of heat! Like the LBT flooring.
Thanks. Hope the log burner will be nice and cozy
Fantastic job, looks amazing! Bet you are extremely happy with the finished job. 👍. Well done. Did it take longer than you expected? My projects always take longer than I think when I start! Would love to see another room done next!, just depends whether you want the workshop up and watertight before winter. No one ideally wants to be building a workshop in the cold wet weather. Loving your renovation series of videos. Keep up the good work. 👍
Glad you like the videos. Yes, to be totally honest it did take longer than I expected!
Looks great. Will be good to see when you do the bathrooms.
Coming at some stage! 😊 cheers
This guy's ink is pretty awesome
Thanks 🙏
More rooms please!
😉 soon
very good work !
Thank you! Cheers!
workshop please! Great vid thanks. What a massive improvement.
Thanks, will do!
Wow what a fantastic finish 👍. I have always used Crown paint for the walls and ceilings.
Thanks 👍 I may need to start giving more crown paints a go
Looks fantastic pal, great job 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video (and the whole series to be fair!)
Glad you like them! Thanks
More rooms in the house 😁
Soon 😊
Well played mate. I would love to have the skills to do this.
Loving this series so far. Would love to see you hanging doors soon, as I've recently bought an older house too and the door frames aren't very square. Would love to see how you would tackle such a job
Great idea! Thanks
Great job pal!
Cheers!
Great video. xx
Thank you!!
Get building the workshop that’d be a great video series
👍
looking good, and the colour's work well :)
Thank you!
Looks fabulous - nice modern clean look.
I also used skirting world and the quality is excellent, as you say.
Also used Quickstep LVT and was impressed by it. That’s a great tip on fitting around the rads!
Bathroom renovation would be my vote, but all will be interesting, I’m certain.
Thanks a lot and thanks for sharing your experience
Good job with that room. Looks great, I'm sure the boss likes it a lot. I don't really have a preference for what you do next because I'll watch whatever you care to share and appreciate it. Nice job, indeed.
Thanks a lot, appreciate the continued support 👍
Although I’m a man and would say do the man cave/outbuilding next I’d have to keep the mrs happy and do another room. Keep her happy = quiet life😂
Agreed 😂
Haha I think you might be right
The key to any relationship is RESPECT
@@Italiana911 steady now 😂

Fantastic transformation 👏
Would love to see the man cave done next.
You and me both! Thanks
Great vid. Looks brill 👍
Thanks 👍
More rooms! I would love to see the bathroom or kitchen! As i need to do those myself shortly!
Coming soon!
It looks stunning mate. Great job
Thanks a ton!
@@AlanHunt73he said it in the video.
Wagner250r
@@dalemanley6330 thanks
@@AlanHunt73 no problem 👍
Absolutely love the transformation. This would be almost exactly the way I would choose to do it. I’m just being picky, but I think it would complete the look if you did column rads and shutters.. That burner kills it with the side glass and being stood in the room like that instead of recessed it will heat the room nicely 🔥🔥
Your probably right there about the rads. Cheers
Looks great, I have a log burner in our annex and love it. I’d like one in the main house but not a great mix toddlers and solid hot surfaces 😅
I totally agree! We will need a big fire guard lol
Cracking vid as ever. More rooms in the house please
Cheers!
Have you thought about painting the cove behind your TV Black? It can make a world of difference to how it looks, especially if you're watching in the dark.
Interesting, not something I’ve considered
