    I can't believe I hadn't thought of doing something like this. I think I will just link my foot pedal into my midi keyboard and assign it to the record button as a work around (I don't have a fader port). Thank you so much Joe

    I used that same technique with my 4-track portaStudio 30 years ago.

    Two big advantages with punching-in: it's quicker than editing comps and it improves your chops because you're playing it until you get it right. 👍

    Hi Joe. I made a Macro in Studio One for "Re-Record" mode when using the Faderport foot switch. It works just like the Re-Record mode in Cubase Pro. In Studio One, I set my loop points, pre-count, pre-roll, punch in etc. and start recording. If I'm not happy with the take, I simply press the foot switch and Studio One Stops the recording, deletes the recording pass, re-winds back to the beginning of the loop, and starts recording all over again. I only have to hit the space bar once to end the recording and stop the re-record function. I never have to take my hands off of my guitar (or keyboard) until I'm happy with a take. I simply keep pressing the foot switch until I'm happy. (I just haven't figured out how to upload it to share in the Studio One user area of the browser yet). You just have to program the Faderport foot switch pedal to receive the macro command. Works great. Thanks for your tip of punching in. I haven't thought of that trick. I'll give it a try. Thanks again, Milton Messenger.

      Its quite an old topic, but if anyone is still looking for a Macro like that, i did the following.
      1. Create a new Macro in the "Macro Organizer" located in the Studio One Menu
      2. Create a new Macro, i called mine "Re-Record" like Milton
      3. Add the following commands and keep my order
      - Transport -> Stop
      - Transport -> Preroll
      - Transport -> Goto Loop Start
      - Transport -> Autpunch
      - Transport -> Rewind Bar
      - Transport -> Rewind Bar
      - Transport -> Rewind Bar
      - Transport -> Record
      --- Save the Macro :)
      4. Goto 'External device' in the Console and open your FaderPort. You may need to activate "External" view to see your FaderPort device.
      5. Right Click on the FS Button on the top-right. It is the black circle with "FS" in it.
      6. Click on "Assign command"
      7. Search and select "Re-Record" from the command list
      Now you can place your loop locator like you would for the auto-punch (do not activate the loop!) and then hit your footswitch. It should start 3 bars before your actual auto-punch loop markers. You can change the number of bars by adding or removing the "Transport -> Rewind Bar" commands.
      @Milton it is possible to export the Macros from your Documents path. On Windows its "Documents -> Studio One -> Macros -> 'Macroname'".
      I hope that helps someone :-)

    To make Logic Pro X punch in/out with a footswitch attached to the new Faderport 2018, File/Key commands/Edit... search for Record Toggle and Learn New Assignment pressing the footswitch. Should say MCU Pro:User Switch A. Enjoy.

    Gain envelope in Studio One controlled with faderport v2’s motorized fader - possible?
    Hey Joe, just got my first Faderport V2 and was wondering, if you can use the motorized fader to manually ride it for a gain envelope automation…?
    With volume and pan automation it works flawlessly, but i couldn’t find the gain envelope in the channels automation menu to record the fader moves to it, since its only available via right click on the clip…
    Is there any workaround?
    Thanks in advance for any help! 🙏🙏🙏

    Hi there, fantastic video as always! I’m using Adobe Auditions DAW and the foot switch on the Faderport Classic doesn’t seem to work. Do you have to assign anything in the DAW to make it work?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank 👍🏻

    Isn't the sustain pedal an analog output as opposed to a true toggle or momentary switch? I'm looking the do this for live mic tracking acoustic guitar and so I want to make sure I don't get a noisy/clicky footswitch. Maybe that's the idea here. Using a sustain pedal would be quiet as opposed to a toggle switch.

    • @35milesoflead
      @35milesoflead ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the sustain pedal. Eg. Roland dp10 has a continuous mode and a momentary mode.

      A new single faderport is $129. You can find the faderport8 for $359..if you look around. Huge difference for the nominal price difference.

    2 bars only??? I wish!!!!! Anyway I bought my faderport just for the manual punch in/out...I'm old school. But in Cakewalk it ties to PLAY/Stop.I'm trying to find the solution.

    I have the single faderport too. Only just recently updated the firmware to enable this feature. I see all kinds of possibilities but what I'm trying to do right now is set up Studio One to basically mimic a Looper pedal. That sounds like a great video idea don't you think?
    Seriously though if anybody has any advice on how to do this I would really appreciate it.

    • @DeerCreekAudio
      @DeerCreekAudio 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Studio One cannot do like a "looper pedal" UNLESS you're doing MIDI. It unfortunately at this time cannot do "sound on sound" recording with audio. Good feature request for sure. I'd love it to do take to layers with SOS as well. Build up those "Guilder" background choirs quick and hear what's going down.

    • @HomeStudioCorner
      @HomeStudioCorner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried it. You can get somewhat close to it with macros and keyboard shortcuts, but its just not built for looping like that.

    This is old info. How the heck do you do this with just a computer with nothing more than a computer interface like a Focusrite or Presonus interface? Do you have to get a "fader port"?

    Has anyone tried this footswitch/ sustain pedal idea with the Faderport 16? I have that exact M-Audio sustain pedal I bought years ago. I have been thinking of buying the FP16 anyway, but I am kind of holding off because I would really need this function of footswitch for punch-ins. I have messed up so many takes by having to pause and set up punch-in regions. Then I look back at whatever instrument I am playing and try to figure out again what I had done... Argggh! This would be the best solution, just have a pedal to punch in and out without having to take attention off the guitar/ keyboard/ vocal mic. I know it would be just more cost effective to get the single fader Faderport, but I have been looking for a 16 channel control surface that would work well with Cubase 10.5 and possibly ProTools vanilla. Anyone that has this exact footswitch setup with the Faderport 16, please let me know.

    • @HomeStudioCorner
      @HomeStudioCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it should work. That M-Audio pedal has as switch that makes it work with any footswitch input. This is super simple, easy functionality, so you won't have issues.

      @@HomeStudioCorner Thanks so much, Joe. Thanks for doing a video on this. It is the perfect solution for hands free recording. I'm back from the days of using a punch in pedal for Tascam recorders. I miss that in this DAW era. :-)
