This is what it means to me to Genuinely Leave and Cleave:
An observation: 1710 minutes into the video the presenters have not made clear the distinction between appropriate uses of aggression by either males or females and the appropriate times/situations when the use of Assertiveness is responsibly call for.
These distinctions are critical when defining boundaries as people leave(dysfunctional) homes where disention and differing points of view were not tolerated and have chosen to Cleave to their partner above all others-- even former codependent Parents who demonstrate unwillingness to let go of control.
I had to decide even before looking for a partner that if the woman I chose as my wife should come under attack by my dysfunctional family then in order to protect her I determined that summarily getting up and leaving my family of origin home would be the only sound course of action.
In the interest of attempting to promote family unity in the light of the above circumstances time-limited visits might be possible--especially in the case where grandchildren maybe involved.

It seems as if the Church is schizophrenic on this topic. Most would agree that being married is normative yet we tell the unmarried that singleness is a "gift".

This is so helpful & insightful, thank you. I'm 28 and still learning a lot, this is encouraging.

    Singleness is not a gift.

How would you characterize singleness then if it's not a gift?

@@raularmas317 God's first words were "It is not good that man is alone." I get tired of hearing, from those who have been married for years (I am not saying you are one of them), how great it is to watch others raise kids and have a spouse for support while you spend years alone with no one to talk to. Christian service only meets so many emotional, social, and mental needs.
