What a powerful chat. The insight, struggle , the life. This is a raw knuckles interview. Thanks as always Chris . Thanks for the honesty and realness louis. Happy new yrs
Chris Just taking a second to say thank you for an awesome podcast! I am, and always will be both a Bruins fan and a Chris Nilan fan. Learning a lot about both yourself and the personal Bruins stories you tell. I am 63, bi-polar, from New Haven,Connecticut. Played hockey till I was hurt in prep school. Fierce competitor like yourself. Dropped the gloves on more than one occasion in life. Really enjoying your podcasts. Keep up the good work. Peter
Knuckles I love how delicate you posed questions about a terrible incident. My favorite part was the fishing invitation and how life is short to hold grudges. Hopefully Jean could join you guys and make peace. Great work!
Great interview again Chris. I had to do a doubletake when I saw Sleigher's name on the title. One thoughtless moment in life can change your perception and how other perceive you.
Love this channel and Chris giving the forum for these great hockey stories as Iv'e been a Flyer fan since a kid in the 70s and now hearing the story behind what I saw . I remember the Quebec/Montreal brawl live on tv and I can't lie I loved every minute of it. Sleigher cheap shotted Hamel and took a free punch after Tremblay and ref steps in .Iv'e watched many of Chris's podcasts and became a fan of it along with respect for Nilans honest interviews and giving these fighters/protectors of team mates a voice. A fan of the rough stuff and Chris bringing on players I forgot about . I wish Nilan could of been a Philly Flyer cause he would of fit right in brother!! Keep the right hands coming Nucks we love ya.
Knuckles did a commendable job trying to stick handle through this interview as he was a teammate of Hamel's but he understands Sleigher's side and it was a tough listen. You can really feel Sleigher's pain that him and Hamel never got back on good terms. Great interview and clicks to Louis for his honesty.
Very good interview, 2 very passionate & physical guys playing hockey. Split second decisions that you cant change in a rivalry so intense in hockey. Louis seems like a good guy.
This podcast with Chris and Louis was terrific. Hearing them speak of their earlier struggles and their subsequent victories was very uplifting. I have always liked Chris since I watched him play in Halifax many years ago. It was great to learn more about Louis. He seems like a really decent guy. God bless you both.
Two guys from the bottom of the draft. Great stuff. Funny thing only last week, I was looking over the 1978 draft list and all those Montreal Canadian picks at the end, there were two, Knuckles and two picks later, Louis Sleigher who got to play the game. Looking forward to the followup story on the fishing trip.
I was a Nordique fan in Québec city by those years, I lived that rivalry, and that was probably the best moment I've ever seen in the sports, I hated Chris so much at the time because he was with Montréal, but he was a hell of a good fighter. I remember the fight with Semenko, I said to myself, oh my god Chris is going to be killed! But Chris had a pretty good fight. Louis was strong as a beef, hitting hard, and successful in the corner, any coach wants a Louis Sleigher on his third line. Happy to see you guys doing well today!
I know you went to "hell" and you had the strenght to come back , now you look good and healthy Chris , please stay like this , you are an icon for a lot of people, you re a strong men . And another interesting podcast , thank you so much and glad you all are able to talk with your past "ennemies" loll.
The only thing I know about this guy is what he did in the Good Friday Massacre Brawl. The fact he was back on the ice at the start of the 3rd was insane.
Chris it’s so sad that Jean still has so much resentment towards Louis . It’s fully understandable but if there is one guy who can bring these 2 people together it’s Chris Nilan . Give it a shot
@@thesickpodcastrawknucklestruth be told, I think it was your punch on Moller when he was engaged and not ready that started the whole brawl, Mr. Nilan. You cut him pretty good.
I really feel for Louis. I have a hard time even calling that a sucker punch. When you're tied up with someone, you gotta expect a potential punch. I don't think a punch even gets thrown if Tremblay doesn't stick his nose in there - from behind Hamel no less. But regardless, there are many many many sucker punches thrown in the NHL - but they don't end so badly.
Robinson got him back in.the 86 playoffs Edit: Chris , because of your pods, I have been able to change my opinion- (for the better). About people. This guy- and Brisbois
Everyone gets on Sleigher for his sucker punch, BUT that whole brawl was stared by Nilan suckering Moller earlier in the game!!! Knuckles punches Moller right in the face while Moller is tied up - watch the replay. Cheap shot which started the whole brawl!
I think he is the guy who took a shot a Patrick Roy behind the net at the Forum. Robinson was coming on the other side, dropped his gloves and gave him a good pounding.

Amazing episode Chris. Nearly got teary eyed. A fascinating listen.
Great conversation. Very touching.

Louis Sleigher will unfortunately always be remembered for the Hamel sucker punch.
Terrific interview Chris - keep up the great work.

I truly hated Sleigher for many years due to the Canadiens-Nordiques rivalry and his punch on Jean Hamel. Seems like a good guy.
Cheap shot - sneaky and dirty .
@@joelsteelerswildlifeadvent2293 then larry robinson beat the crap out of sleigher every chance he got the following season
Glad to hear Perron is coming on the show. Should be interesting. LOL

Thank you Chris for this… awesome job with Louie… on a very tough topic/incident
Appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it.

Amazing episode. Great work Chris. That was very soul-searching. Thanks.
Chris Nilan also suckered Randy Moeller during that brawl
Great job knuckles, many props to you.....
Hey Chris, Great Podcast. Why don’t you get Joe Kocur on yer show??? Keep it up Brother

Great interview knuckle. Louis played the right way just like you did 👍
sucker punching guys?
Yep, sounds about right.
Great podcast, Knuckles 😊
Thanks for listening!
Knucks, let the guy talk! I would have loved to hear Louie walk us through the Good Friday brawl
Great work Chris! Keep it up! Will always be watching your podcast! 👍
Sleigher played for Nordiques & Bruins ☝️
Great stuff. I had no idea Louie was French. 😀
Any chance of getting Shayne Corson on the pod cast?
The only thing I know about this guy is what he did in the Good Friday Massacre Brawl. The fact he was back on the ice at the start of the 3rd was insane.
I'd love to hear the true story behind the brawl with the Bruins and what Nienhuis apologized for??

Thanks I have tried to get in touch with Hamel and haven’t been able to reach him. I’m still trying to

I’m a Kings fan and I hate this guy for what he did to Hamel still in 2024.
His only claim to fame is ending the career of Jean Hamel with one of the dirtiest cheap shots in NHL history.
Hated that guy.... God Bless Him. Happy New Year.
Well done Chris. Highlight of your podcast stick handling that awful incident with Jean Hamel. Horrid cheap shot.
It's funny chris you called dale a little rat , but he was a better player then his other 2 brothers Dave and mark,
he land the cheapest shot of all times on hamel
Those were very intense rivalries in todays games there aren't any. Just very soft boring games.
This is one of the few interviews where I wish Chris would have let Loius talk! I don't like when the host thinks he's the guest.
Sorry man but Mr Cheapshot by both of you guys in that game, c mon
You have no idea. Did you hear them talk about that rivalry and how we outsiders will never understand the emotion involved. Don't judge.
Nilan tough guy.. but most of his fights consisted of him grappling holding wrestling with his opponents
Agreed very defensive and boring
