    Thanks for watching, the same two comments keep coming in so to save your fingers and rather than replying to all individually, I've addressed them here:
    1) This wrap is NOT fibreglass, it doesn't require wetting prior to application.
    2) Yes, I applied the wrap header to tip rather than the other way round. While this is considered the wrong way around, it helped me adjust and get the positioning I wanted at the tips. I've had it for years like this, no issues.
    I'm not a mechanic, I'm just a guy sharing my hobby and passion for my bike, hope you enjoy.

    My only advice would be to torque the exhaust flange nuts 100-120 ft lbs and if you wrap the Heat Tape from the Pipe end (exhaust) the tape will overlap the other way, meaning the raised Lip isn't facing the oncoming rain , mud, debris, etc. Thanks.

    • @ridingdigital

      Agree, I'd wrap the other way next time, and agree on torquing correctly (with some Ritelok too!). thanks for watching

      No need to soak titanium wrap.

    • @Andy-px1mj
      @Andy-px1mj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wetting any wrap can help it stretch, causing it to shrink and tighten more when dried. Wrapping from the other way to how it was shown means the rain will be able to run downwards.

    • @TheTinLion
      @TheTinLion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrapping wet is good practice for stretch & shrink after drying. But wrapping from the tail end only keeps it from getting dirty/rain running correctly on certain shaped pipes. Shorties tend to go forward & out, then back. You're only getting the effect at the back end of them.

    In a different tutorial, they recommended wetting the material with water before wrapping... Once wrapped and put on the bike, they said to go for a ride to let the water 'burn off' (evaporate) which helps the material to contract and stay wrapped tight... cool video though! Looks great! Can't wait to wrap my exhaust!

      @ridingdigital  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen Smith Hey man, yep there are some wraps which need water activation, the design engineering titanium I used is a different material (I think they say it's volcano ash??!) but doesn't need wetting, I think it might make it easier! Good luck! RD

      Hello! You're absolutely right on the wrap direction, I did it the wrong way around. Whoops. It's holding up fine though! On the wetting part, this isn't a normal fibreglass wrap, it's soft and checking instructions from the manufacturer it is specified as not to wet before installation. So I got one bit right! • @mfabrizius

    First of all he did wrap them backwards, secondly you only have to soak fiberglass wraps. Design Engineering -the company that makes these "titanium" wraps say it's not necessary to soak these as the fibers are much more flexible than fiberglass. You can check their TH-cam channel for that. They also recommend spraying their silicone sealant to keep them looking and wearing better. But very nice bike, music eh I prefer some rock.
    Also he didn't replace the exhaust gaskets between the port and the pipe.

    • @ridingdigital
      @ridingdigital  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You wrapped the pipes in the wrong direction. you're supposed to start at the outlet side and move to the inlet side. So the wind doesn't blow the wrap loose because of the direction of the overlap being forward, instead of backwards.

    Wow, Titanium looks great! Sweet bike, too! I need to rewrap the pipes on my Bonnie and have been debating what shade to use. One question: Has the color faded much? I've seen other vids where they finish with a silicone spray, but considering DE's wraps are about 3X the cost of others on Amazon, I'm wondering if the spray is unnecessary.

    Thanks for the video. I'm probably going to be ordering these wraps by the end of the week. I have an aftermarket exhaust but the heatshields that came with it don't work very well and I don't want to melt my pants onto the pipe. Would you recommend keeping those on with the wraps, or just remove the heatshields and go with the wraps??

    • @ridingdigital
      @ridingdigital  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I chose to wrap over the heat shield because i liked the chunkier look and the finishing cap on the pipes needed the shields on to fit. Never had any issues with this set up. Either way they'll still get hot but it will take the searing edge off!

      Hi Jim, you're right on starting the other end, some others pointed out it reduces the risk of dirt getting into the wrap. I added pinned comment to highlight this. This wrap isnt fibreglass resin however and specifically says to wrap dry. Its Design Engineering Tintanium wrap.

      Yes you're right, I applied the wrap header to tip rather than the other way round. While this is considered the wrong way around, it helped me adjust and get the positioning I wanted at the tips to align them. I've had it for years like this, no issues.

    working with asbestos without gloves is rather "stupid" isnt it?

    • @ridingdigital
      @ridingdigital  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Asbestos has been illegal to sell and use in the UK for decades, if it were asbestos I'd be wearing a hazmat suit. I think you mean fibreglass, the wrap I'm using isnt fibreglass either (also why its wasnt wet when applies) so not a problem and no gloves were specified on the instructions.

    Exhaust Wrap - Always a bad idea...!

    • @bh5121
      @bh5121 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manoo42 why

    • @manoo422
      @manoo422 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless you are running a turbo you want to get as much energy out of the exhaust gas as quickly as possible to reduce the necessity for restrictive silencers which cause back pressure, sapping power...

    • @bh5121
      @bh5121 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manoo42 but sportsters run better with back pressure? That's what mechanic just told me yesterday since I'm buying one we were talking exhaust mods

    • @manoo422
      @manoo422 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back pressure comes from a 'restriction' to flow, nothing runs 'better' with restricted breathing! Ever see a GP bike with a wrapped exhaust? You might want to ask your 'mechanic' to explain his logic and see if he waffles a lot!!

    • @Urfavblondegirl203
      @Urfavblondegirl203 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Manoo42 You are wrong. Gay-Lussac's Law is one part of the ideal gas law and so explains how gases change when volume is held constant. As the temperature increases, the molecules in the gas move faster, impacting the gas's container more frequently and exerting a greater force. This increases the pressure. So if the heat inside the pipe is hotter, the pressure and velocity will move proportional to one another. This would mean you dump hot air out the exhaust faster.

    Lay out the length of the wrap put one end in a vise start your wrap then with your body weight lean back and continue to wrap this way it is super tight and holds up better .
