Bingo! These are conditions we don’t want to be in - even though the boat can handle it. It isn’t worth it, IMO. That is where the AICW is an amazing resource so you can continue travel but safely and comfortably.
Your channel is the best at showing REAL life onboard with the highs and lows. Wow those waves were huge. Not a great weather window for travelling esp with the Gulf stream current. Buoy and Leo did as well as possible but a huge responsibility for you in such weather. So glad you arrived safely, great footage and descriptions.
Well I got to admit the seas where a bit sporty. Bet you're glad you did it. Now you know a little more of what the boat can handle as well as what you can handle. Well done skipper. Good thing the rest of the fam was absent.
The reason Clark was not scared is because he knew that Nord would keep you guys safe. Bad Ass boat man, not many other 55ft boats that can handle seas like that. It looks like those stabilizers work very well at controlling roll.
Holy Cow! Definitely wasn’t click bate, right.. Thank goodness your boat is so well made to handle the seas. Great job guys thank you again for sharing.
Great video once again, and fantastic footage of what "not ideal" weather looks like. When we started our boating journey 4 years ago I vowed and declared we would never make runs to time schedules, we would make all of our trips based on weather windows. As it turns out that is completely unrealistic and sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go. Your boat is amazing, and I am very jealous of your stabilisers! Great to have someone take the trip with you that had rough seas experience, now your own personal limits have been extended to new heights. Waves crashing over the flybridge is never fun!
It's really good experience for you. None of us like being in that kind of weather but eventually it happens sooner or later, and it's good to know you can deal with it as well as the boat, and your safe.
When you said you were waiting on a package that would make the trip fun, I somehow thought of Quest. Can’t believe I guessed correctly. And finally, welcome to TH-cam, Bouy!! 🐶
So interesting experiencing the rough weather in your Nordhavn, every yatchsmen eats this up. Show us more of those experiences and get that heavy bow anchor secured.
Well done... Weather was a good experience for you. I always worry about water in the fuel tanks getting stirred up. Sleeping can be Daliesque at times.
The new puppy may never set foot on the boat again. I can just see him running down the dock away from the boat. Good to see you again. That was a rough trip.
A great way to start my Sunday morning coffee. I think Clark is not real. He is Braden's alter ego. Prove me wrong. I'm glad I was not aboard during the rough seas. Wheh!
Good video. Love seeing the progression of your hair, beard, and eyes from tidy to complete disaster! Well done dude. Great test.. and the boat and crew passed.
Amazing video. So real and raw at the same time. So glad you both arrived safe. Where in Florida are you spending time at? Not a boating this weekend. Take Care.
Holy mackerel I’ve never seen water come over the bow of a Nordhavn. Some wild, wild seas blown up by that squall line. Still, I’m hoping considerable peace of mind cruised with you because of the boat you were aboard. Can’t imagine the brutal pounding a lesser boat would be taking.
Great trip Captain, the only that might be better than a Nordhavn would probably be an atomic submarine. You do a magnificent job of portraying a normal yatch owner. I think you and your family should be very proud of your accomplishments.
You should look into some soft-sided kennels for the dogs. It keeps them safe and makes them feel more comfortable when it gets sporty. Both our dogs seem to appreciate them a lot and it keeps them much more relaxed in those conditions.
That nordhaven is made for it! I know it’s not the most comfortable ride but that’s one capable yacht! I’ve been a subscriber since you guys first started your yacht living journey. I love the channel! Keep the content coming!
Since we don't have stabilizers, this is how it feels to us in much smaller seas.Love to have them, but adding them to this ol' boat is not likely. Great video. Waves just never show what reality is on video. Dang it!
Normally you can’t tell the size of waves in videos, but I could tell on this video things were a bit gnarly. Thank God you’re on a Nordhavn. Great video.
Ahoy Capt. Man am I filled with envy as I sit here on my porch this cold Indiana afternoon. I havent had much of a chance this past year to see the ocean and let me tell ya as a salt that has the soul of a sailor. Guys like you and myself are a dying breed... I admit I would give anything to be out there with you. Being from tampa bay I feel super restricted and just anxious all the time especially when the weather dips below freezing or even down in the negatives honestly we have had a super mild winter compared to most. One day when we get back down maybe we will run into each other in the keys or Bahamas. If so I will buy ya a beer and we can share some stories. Anyhow Heres a toast to you on the coast and the sailors out at sea. Drink your ayles hoist your sales ride the wind and think of me. Enjoy the other life somewhere in the sun!
The adventure with the line reminded me of one time I was backing Gusto into her slip. Typically I let her coast once she's lined up since she backs to port when in gear, but will coast straight back. So we're slowly coasting into the slip when suddenly the boat stops 6 feet short and starts moving back out of the slip. I scratched my head and tried again, and the same thing happened. I was sure we hadn't hit anything, and decided to check around and found we had snagged a bow line on our starboard breast cleat. When it grew taut, it stopped the boat and the rebound was reversing it.
@ABOARDMERMAIDMONSTER yeah and the lesson we learned was to coil the lines a bit tighter on the piling so we wouldn't snag it. Plus, that reduced the chance a loose line wouldn't be wrapped around the prop, something we saw with another boat.
Great to see you made it. Those were some nasty seas. However, Brooke, being the one with a Captains license, needs to get out there and learn to handle the boat in those conditions in case something were to happen to you the crew. Good footage of the conditions and just think what it would have been like without stabilizers.
Congratulations on a passage well done! And another great edit and music. I am in rainy FL now and it is cool (65) so my vivid imagination took me along for your ride. Do dogs get sea sick? Have they forgiven you yet?
I was in 25 foot seas once back in the day. It was on a bigger boat, just a hair under 80ft at the water line, and I was in my early 30s. The bad part was the occasional huge roller that we occasionally took on the stbd bow. A huge pitch and roll all at once and in the dark you can'tsee it coming. . Like your friend I dont get sea sick. I was still young, and it was an adventure, but it was a test for sure. What a ride, certainly not one I want to do again. For me the worst was the exhaustion from fighting not to fall, walking without using what they now call the 3 point was impossible. Even setting was a workout. These days anything over about 10ft and less depending on the sea state and I am not going. I am just not in that big a hurry. Thank you and be safe.
I just edited and updated the post to explain better. She was a 80 ft boat. Now days there is no way I would go out in seas like your boat took, not on purpose anyway. Glad all worked out. I felt worst about the pups dealing with it. I do not want to do that again.
There is nothing like standing on a flybridge and looking up at the wave peaks we were off Ocean City and the 80ft Merritt that was next to us with a Tuna Tower and it was disappearing for like 10 secs at a time. Waves don't bother me but lightning scares me
Love your channel have been binge watching most of your episodes, I live on the Coromandel in beautiful New Zealand, maybe you guys should plan a trip down under :) anyway I have a question about your boat, while you have the main engines on can’t you run pretty much whatever electronics you like as the main engine would be making the power rather then having to use the genset? Probably a really noob question from a amateur boatie 👍
Be hilarious to do an A/B comparison in the same weather between you and the "Icon of the Seas". Bet they are doing diamond cleaving (actual car commercial) and circumcisions (SNL spoof on car commercial).
See yun's have a new baby on board. Thats good for CAPTIN now he has a play mate. Was their any damage from the one wheel ? That is a pretty good fall and I would think that those ( One Wheelers) have a little bit of weight to them? Have yun's cleaned the fuel tanks? I would think that after a trip as this if yun's fuel filters didn't clog up then the fuel tanks have to be pretty clean.

Oh the storms at sea, out of all the days I spent at sea in the Navy its the storms that I miss the most. Even though at the time, it was so much work just walking down a passage way or hanging on to the chair I was sitting in. I was always tired from all the movement. Trying to take pictures of someone standing at an angle on the fantail with a monstrous wave in the background, to show how far the ship had listed, without being accused of tipping the camera to over emphasize the shot. Sleeping face down spread out with one arm hanging off the edge to keep from rolling out. The the sound of winds screaming through the wires. The bow launching off the crest then slaming down in the trough making that sound like a groan. Then going forward up inside the bow with shipmates . All there to make fun of you, as you try to do jumping jacks and lose balance as the ship twists and dropsdown down or raises up under you. Falling into the Dolly Pardon vests or possibly mooring ropes (they were not so soft). I so wish I could do it again but, only for a day.

Love watching a nordhavn do what it is meant to do they truly are amazing vessels all the best from alberta Canada 🇨🇦
I’m also from Alberta Canada. Always impressed with mermaid monsters willingness to show the real world of boating
"Being on a schedule" is one of the most dangerous phrases for someone boating. As seen in this video. Glad you arrived safe.
Bingo! These are conditions we don’t want to be in - even though the boat can handle it. It isn’t worth it, IMO. That is where the AICW is an amazing resource so you can continue travel but safely and comfortably.
True that.
Except, this Nordhavn is up to the task of these conditions, I suspect.
@@batsonjayIt sounds like there were some issues. We have a Kadey Krogen that can totally handle the seas but why do it? It’s definitely not fun!
You are not wrong that’s for sure! This time though we absolutely had a schedule and you will see why in this next episode ❤️❤️❤️
Pilot debrief of the sea ?

A good test for Man and Machine, good choice of boat and proof that it will keep you and your family safe
That was quite the trip. But you do have the boat fir it.... Glad y'all are safe. Smooth sailing ahead
So glad your back. That was a rock and roll trip for sure. Another baby on board lol. Have a super blessed week.

Congratulations on the trip. I am sitting here watching going “no, no, no thank you!” This after experiencing some rough stuff in the past.
Good to hear about travel friend
A new puppy 🐶 😊
Looked like very short period waves! Bad weather always seem to happen when you have a strict schedule to stick doesn’t it? Glad you made it.
Never have a schedule!

It would have been “not doable” without those beautiful stabilizers
Great video! Very entertaining. Better you than me. 😂
Great to see you made it. Those were some nasty seas. She can handle the same thing I (Braden) can. She’s tough, but we wouldn’t subject the kids to that and she’s the one that is taking care of them….
Awesome vedio
Congratulations on a passage well done! And another great edit and music. I am in rainy FL now and it is cool (65) so my vivid imagination took me along for your ride. Do dogs get sea sick? Have they forgiven you yet?
They have completely forgiven us! Lots of treats later haha.

Ya no thanks haha
Impressive work by those stabilizers @16:00

As you said, I Don't think it is worth hammering the boat like this to make your destination on a schedule.
Hey buddy, you’re starting to look like a pirate.😂
When the boat is a rockin' don't bother knockin'
with weather that bad why didn't you go down in the ICW? (just a thought, you're the captain).
Are those dock lines on the bow? Why would you leave those coiled and loose on deck?
There is nothing like standing on a flybridge and looking up at the wave peaks we were off Ocean City and the 80ft Merritt that was next to us with a Tuna Tower and it was disappearing for like 10 secs at a time. Waves don't bother me but lightning scares me
Great video, Nordhavn and probably ABT Trac should be paying you a commission for selling boats.
Couldn’t agree more haha
Made remember the video from MV DIRONA (Nordhavn 52), during a transatlantic crossing, it was worse, than this, really worth watch.

I'm hung up on buying a nordhavn or a bering. As of now I'm leaning more toward a bering yacht
I can’t speak for Bering but Nordhavn has an amazing group of owners who are very well traveled.
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Love those dogs!
Video doesnt do those waves justice!
Next time tie everything off a little better.
How often do you need to fix things on her and how did you learn how to fix them? Great vid, thanks for sharing.

Yes you can mess with the settings so the stabilizers are more or less sensitive ect! We have them tuned pretty on point I think!
Lithium batteries in those toys!?. They can catch fire in salt water. At least two e bikes have caught fire and burned the boats to the water line!
No lithium batteries!
I am surprised. I thought the Nordhavn was designed to get through some spirited seas. Why were doors and cabinets and fridges opening up? Was there enough flex in the boat that the doors shifted to allow the locks to fail? One would think you would not have to "tape" doors closed on an explorer yacht for some mid range swells. Would be pretty scary if you were to venture to the North Atlantic.
It handles incredible! The fridge is out of alignment. Our fault, not the boat. The hardware needs to be adjusted so the lock doesn’t line up right now. The down stairs locker is the same.
You might wanna trim that beard! 😂😂😂😂
Yup

I fully understand if you don't want to answer this but I'm going to ask, How do you and what does it cost to live this lifestyle?

Didn’t have time
This video is lane !I was dumb enough to take my 27 foot boat out in worse seas than this and survived it wasn't fun but your not flooding or having alarms going off like I did so man up !
Oh brother. You have yourself a very nice day ❤️
i think you lucky if this is the worst weather you have been in, being form denmark we sail out in much more violent sea then this is normally here
Not lucky just smart. We avoid bad weather because it’s not smart to go in haha.
New Puppy?
Yuppersp
Going as slow as a Nordhavn does I would imagine investing in the best stabilization system would be critical.
Yup sure is important
Wow
be VERY careful with acetone on board, it is extremely flammable.
That boat was designed for seas like that and higher. At least you know you’re still safe.
Was designed for it, but doesn’t not mean it is fun hahah
Your anchor needs to be tied down better. I had a similar set up on my boat and always strapped it down with bungee chords, worked great in rough seas.
We definitely need a better solution for the anchor. ⚓️
Most people with a brain would have waited for a better weather window. What the hurry
How many degrees of list was that?
At what point? Hahah.
Nasty. Down below, particularly without a good view of the horizon, in big waves is an awful place to be.

Yup! We always try to be flexible in the schedule but in the next episode you will see why we couldn’t be this time ❤️❤️
The Andrea Gail faced 100ft waves - stop complaining 🤣
Would a catamaran be better if the ssme size?
In my opinion…. No way.
@@ABOARDMERMAIDMONSTER Why is that.
Because of mono stabilizes?
How far offshore did you loose your StarLink? You can temporarily change your contract online.
