Joe King is easily the most brilliant songwriter/composer of the past 3 decades. 💯

Hugh O’Niell was a close friend of my mom & dad & he was around my family a lot while he was battling cancer. My dad’s a guitar player & I’ve played guitar my whole life, and my dad was showing me off _so-to-speak_ telling me to play like all this 1980s Neo-classical metal stuff I’d learned to play & my dad’s a blues guitar local legend _(where I come from)_ and I’m playing this Eddie Van Halen Harmonic pends & finger-tapping stuff and Hugh was like “yeah-yeah-yeah, you turned him into you” and my dad’s like “huh?” And he goes “since 1972, we’d be playing in my parents barn & we’d get a good groove going and you’d start throwing all this blues shit in there” and so like 10 minutes later, I’m sitting there with my Kramer guitar, noodling around & I started playing _Zero_ by the Smashing Pumpkins & Hugh goes “YES!! That Right there!! Simplify more, don’t go crazy trying to fill out every scale you can come up with, this isn’t classical music & that’s not a piano” and my dad goes “That’s a lot of fun…..for two dollars!!!”

Thank you for sharing your story. It's nice to hear when musicians are good guys. I'm glad you have those memories with your father. Music and family is all that matters.
