    The rosewood finish of that speaker is beautiful. I wished more companies would offer this type of real wood finish. Let’s face it, our systems are a part of our home decor and a superbly finished speaker just adds to the experience.

      This is how speakers should be made. That’s how my B&Ws were made back in the day in the UK.
      My son pushed my B&W 703 on the ground and it hit the hard wood and made a noise that woke the dead. The speaker didn’t have a single scratch and it’s been playing perfectly for 12 years. I’ll repeat the speaker collapsed on a hard surface and had no sonic or visible damage. I bought them for half price ($1,500) and now the comparable 702s made in China cost $5,000.

    After a solid year of watching and enjoying your videos, I took the plunge on an schitt aegir and the Triangle Comete 40th. I combined these with my already owned PS Audio pre amp and Denon turntable. WOW!! The music is alive!! I am thoroughly enjoying the system and really appreciate your tipping me off to both of these components. Keep on Truckin'

      Your setup of Schiit Aegir and Comete is what I am considering to upgrade. I am concerned about 20W rating of Aegir to drive Comete speakers. Would you comment whether stereo output of Aegir is enough to drive the speakers. Or should I consider mono block setup of Aegir?

      @@stevenchang9276 My 2.3 wpc DECware amp drives the Comètes just fine. Unless you are in a ballroom (in which case the Comètes would not be the best choice) you will be more than fine with the Comètes; 20wpc is more than enough. More important is speaker setup (positioning) and whether or not you feel you need (and can properly implement) a subwoofer.

    I have Triangle Theta Signatures, two of triangle’s models ranges higher than these. Mine work great with push pull tubes monos. What Steve left out I think is that most of triangle’s two way speakers have a 90dB per watt sensitivity and are 8ohm. That’s higher than most speakers nowadays. I recommend them.

    Dear Steve (Mr. Audiophiliac): Thanks for your reviews, I thoroughly enjoy them, including your choice of music which expands my repertoire as time goes on. I've watched your review of the Triangle and listened intently. I must confess, I seek other reviews and listening impressions on TH-cam where available (the latter is quite difficult to do well). But your reviews are spot on and quite honestly, how can you go wrong with an Audiophiliac review! Sooo, I broke down and bought a pair of the 40th Triangle Comète (just say Comet in English and it sounds the same way in French).
    You've made a comment in the past in one of your reviews: try something different. So I went with a Horn Speaker. Bottom line. I love it!
    Of course in time I could try Planars, Open baffles, etc... Being French Canadian does not mean I have a penchant for French speakers, but I have enjoyed other French products in the past. These Comète speakers are now playing as I type this and I will emphasize the following sound characteristics: they are sound staging champs and are very quiet; they provide an amazing amount of detail while composed. The latter statement is interesting for me to affirm as I'm using a Benchmark AHB2 power amplifier and it's low noise floor does allow more detail to be extracted from my CDs. This extra detail shows up in the Triangle speakers for my ears to enjoy. Fun! I don't own ONE pair of speakers, but for my smallish room, they'd probably be my #1 choice. But I'll always have more speakers in my collection.

    As a follow up to my previous comment, Jeff Beck's CD "Who Else" finally came in and I had to cue "Space for Papa". It's got an awesome feel to it, and yes, spinning the CD and blasting through the 40th Comètes, it sounded awesome! These speakers continue to impress and are now my go to "sweet horns" in my less than 180 square feet audio rooms in my home. They are not hard to place, but once you dial in the sweet spot they impress! Nothing else I've tried over the years compares to these wonderful speakers in smaller rooms. I've recently acquired the Triangle S04 40th stands to complete the kit. These required more work than anticipated to extract full performance from the speakers and the stands; I had to fill them with sand, use the rose coloured spikes and afix them, firm but not too tight, to the stands; this latter part of the process what critical to get the Triangles to sing. They look great in my living room + the bass improved overall after I filled the columns (4 compartments inside the tube; trial and error) with sand. Caveat: they are a little taller than my previous bookshelf speakers on their stands.

    The Who - Live At Lead - Magic Bus - awesome on these speakers. As well as classical and jazz (sound awesome). I find that these speakers sound great for me very close up - like 6ft away - with an R-2-R DAC and a Hegel H90 amp. Also, these speakers sounded great with an R-2-R DAC and a Rega ELICIT-R amp. Sounding best close - probably means that my room needs treatment. Listening to the Rega amp (at the Hifi Shop) with these speakers was really special - dancing treble gremlins in front of the speakers (tubish sound?).

    Almost three months after first hearing the Comètes … I have them and absolutely LOVE them. The only problem I have is my room, which I won’t fix - I’ll build a better room in my next house. Are they last word in bass extension and volume? Hell no, but no one ever claimed they were. What bass there IS, however, is very nice and satisfies for many, if not most, recordings.
    The Zen amp with the Comètes is an amazing combination, I could live with it forever. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances (having nothing to do with the Zen amp) an Atoll IN100 Signature will soon be taking its place. I’ve auditioned the combination briefly, and it is magnifique. But soon there will be more extended listening and I suspect I will have a real conundrum on my hands.
    Encore … vive la France!

    This speaker will appeal to people just for the impeccable job they've managed on that special finish. I mean it looks like a great piece of furniture you could add to a room. You know when you fire up your set up for people to listen to, and expect them to be blown away but all you get is a okay sort of reaction? (read that in another comment) I doubt that will happen here. Everyone will appreciate the looks and expect the sound to be just as good. Not much to add really, howeverthe Comete are fantastic and all about imagining and separation. They are certainly the anti-Klipsch, anti-JBL etc etc. If you want something closer to these, the BRO series is Triangle's take. These are easy to drive, perhaps some of the easiest I have ever owned. They also accent the tonality of your amp/dac quite a bit. I don't believe you will have trouble with pairings so much but they will definitely push the character of your electronics to the front.

    • @llysender
      @llysender 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      interesting, personally I found the BR 03 nothing like Klipsch or JBL where the speaker colours majority of the sound and your source takes a back seat. Even with cables the BR03 can change tonality quite abit. Very transparent yet dynamic sounding.
      Im looking at the comete because I feel the always soft treble transients can get annoying esp with things that are supposed to be sharp like supersaws.
      Which brings me to the question where does the comete allow for both harsh and smooth treble? I looked at the lower end focal chora speakers and honestly they are extremely messy and doesnt have the cleaness that the BR03 has. What I did like though was how it was both able to sound metalic and harsh yet smooth as and when needed so maybe I was thinking metal dome tweeters are the way to go.

    • @erics.4113
      @erics.4113 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@llysender did you make a decision on a new set? I'm a few days into bro3 and now seriously considering the comete as a possible direction to go. There is a lot to like about the bro3 in my setup.
      You mentioned trying focal, did you look at aria 906 or even bowers if you really want that tweeter?
      The bro3 uses soft silk dome, while the ez comete has titanium and 40th anniversary has a magnesium tweeter if I'm not mistaken on all three. I no doubt love the pure paper woofer, but I'm curious how the other tweeters integrate.
      The one thing I'd give the bro3 as a standout is the cohesiveness and integration between drivers. It sounds like one driver even up close, although I wouldn't use them desktop, I do sit near-field (about 6 feet).

    • @llysender
      @llysender 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erics.4113 In the end i decided to stick with the BR03 as for critical enjoyment i have my personal audio gear. For most part the lack of bite in the mid treble and air isnt very important when i am using them for videos where the important part is the vocal imaging and controll
      But yeah if you have the money i would still rec the comete since it does diffuse horn sound really well.
      With reguards to the focal. Personally i only tried it with a niam setup and i found that anything bellow the utopia line is pretty harsh and not enjoyable with my music.
      B&W personally i was considering the 606 but then i found the br03 which has tighter decay which i prefer.

      @@llysender thanks for the input. I've only had the bro3 for a few days but they're really making me want to sample up the triangle line. They're not perfect for every genre but they do absolutely shine with some material. I think it's upper mid where I'm not a big fan. Distorted electric guitar seems to fall apart, compared to midrange on other sets I own. It's such a tough game of compromise with all of these speakers.

    I apologize that this comment doesn't apply to this video, but I am attaching it here because this is your most current one and I have some information about MQA that you should know. 1. When you review MQA DACs, please let your listeners know what inputs accept the MQA digital stream. I bought a Topping DAC specifically for its MQA function, but when I got it I found out that you could only input the MQA stream via USB, and my Bluesound Vault 2i will only pass digital info via SPIDIF or Toslink. 2. Tidal is not the only source available for MQA. Radio Paradise broadcasts in MQA FOR FREE! No Subscription required. I am not sure, but I think it is only available on Bluesound or NAD equipment.

    The French does a hell lot of a things better in Audio (imo), like the Polish audio companys, which often is way underrated. But my experience in speakers and amps from French manufactories has been a thrilling ride. I ended up with Lavardin top of the line amps (Pre/Mono), which defiantly is my end game amp. Never heard any amps sound as musical as these French amps does, but you have to hear it for yourself. They makes amps, only to do the best with the music that's flows through it, and therefor you won't see nothing but line inputs, a tape output, a volume and a source switcher. These amps are for pure musical enjoyment, and then you can build all you streaming and dac devices other places in the chain of your system. Not even a remote is available, as they stated it would interfeer with the sound. There u have it. Cheers from Denmark

    Hey Steve,
    These Cometes look nice but my experience with Triangle has been so so. I once owned a pair of Triangle Stella many years ago. While they were very lively and beautifully transparent they didn't have much meat on the bones and were very intolerant of poor recordings. I recently had the Borea BR02 in house, they were ''fun'' and had a completely opposite sound to the similarly sized Stellas. They could rock OK but lacked transparency and refinement when compared to the Stellas or a pair of pricier Totem Sky standmounts that I had on hand at the time.

    • @brightdevices
      @brightdevices 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for one more deliberate review. I am following for years and couldn't feel happier with all these rather insightful findings made.
    My only little complaint is that it's harder to understand You, acoustically, compared to other reviewers. I don't know why but your microphone does not seem to capture high frequencies well, same time it lacks some (uni-)directionality. It's more like omnidirectional capture, with plenty of that Brooklyn background noise.
    There are almost no sibilants audible in your words, vocal intonation in general is somewhat arduous to follow. Seems like it's sharply cut-off somewhere around 5 kHz, which constantly gives it some sort of "telephone call" audible flavor. ....Which is a little tiring to follow in the medium run, as volume has to be cranked up in order to understand You just a little easier.
    - May others please approve or disapprove. Thx -

      I’m with you. Sorry if I’m being disrespect but I like to be honest and let the truth out. I didn’t learn shit or take away anything from 80% of Steve’s reviews most of the times- including this one. The only thing I learned from this review is that the Comete 40th sounds acceptable and ok. Comparable to the Elac Unify Reference that’s half its price. Ok, that really helps big time. Out of all the speakers Steve reviewed in the recent past, there’s seriously isn’t a single one within the $2000 price range that he can think of to compare it with. In addition, the sounds improved slightly when paired with this $8000 amplifier. I didn’t know that. Maybe I’ll do that. Get a pair of speaker and get a amp that costs 4x its price. Hell, maybe a $20k/$30k amps while I’m at it, to pair it with my $2000 speaker. What a fantastic reviewer.
      And for that, I’m proudly and am very pleased to announced that Stevce here have just earned himself my the ‘Douchebag reviewer of the year’ award.
