- In this video, we take a look at the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. This car is known for being unreliable via consumer reports, but is it really the most unreliable SUV out there? We take a look to find out. This is a start of a series where we share our experience buying and modding the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Alfa Romeo is one of the most reliable brands I've owned and I'll stand by that as we showcase its durability.
If you're considering buying an Alfa Romeo Stelvio, then be sure to watch this video first. If you're looking for a car that's fun to drive and comfortable, then look elsewhere! The luxury and performance of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio make for a great combination, especially when you add in AWD from the Q4. If you're looking for an SUV that's both reliable and performance- oriented, the Stelvio is definitely worth considering!
Current Builds:
2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia

Alfa Romeos are one of the best vehicles ever made, people need to trust them more. I have owned them and zero problems.
I totally agree; I’ve owned Alfa Romeo since 2017 without any problems. This channel is to prove their durability and showcase how far we can push it. We’ve done over 2 million views across all platforms promoting the Alfa brand. This will hopefully prove how will the Stelvio is made as well.
reliable? Hahaha.....no wait, HAHAHA!
We all know that this is not true.
In the UK in 2022 Stelvio was among the top 6 large SUVs for reliability.
Unfortunately people in the US don’t see that!
I had an Alfa 156 then an Alfa GT and now I've been driving an Alfa Giulietta for years, the next maybe an Alfa Tonale or a Stelvio 😍👍
I wish we got the Giulietta here! I really wanted the Tonale but the Stelvio was such a good purchase! I’ll definitely be getting a Tonale and 4c as they lower in price.
My family has four newer Alfas. None have had a reliability issue. Bullet proof! We even upgraded our 2018 for a 2021 because we like them so much.
How you liking the 2021?
I’m really happy for you guys, finally,,
I own a 2020 stelvio for almost 3 years (bought on march 2020) and I learned a lot from you guys , and I’m more than happy to be at your assistance at any time with your Stelvio and can’t Wait to see the modifications you will do on it.
Best regards ..
Thank you for the kinda words 🙏🏽 and we appreciate the support! We’re excited to see how this project turns out!
Mine is already at 115,000 miles and going strong. Thinking of getting the 4C in a few years
4c’s are really cool!
Have you had any minor problems or serious problems and were the prices high or low .
Damn!!!!! 24K w/ 37,000 miles is a pretty good deal. Car prices are looking a lot better. Please lower that thing on Madness springs. Looking forward to all the mods on this one.
Thanks brotha! Yea I’ve been hunting for a good deal, I finally found this one after looking for a good 3 months. Definitely will lower it asap! We got tons coming!
Yeah that is great! I haven't found one under 28K and 98% of the time they are over 30K. I've been looking as well for one and I just found a 2018 with 31,535 mi for $36,000
@@ffblegend trust me I’ve been looking for awhile too 😂 I hear the struggle! I ended up finding this one private party and pretty much bought it sight unseen. Worked out but definitely a gamble to score the deal 😅
@@ModdedMotors lol hell yeah! I found a few sweet ones today. Need it to replace my wife’s 09 RX350. Was debating about another Lexus SUV but kinda want her to follow me into this Alfa world lol. She loves my 2020 Giulia so I think she will follow me lol
@@ffblegend honestly I love Lexus but the Alfa as an SUV is just so sick 😂😅 I’ve honestly been having a great time with it
$24k w only 37k miles? Thats a great deal! Congrats and looking fwd to future videos
Thank you! I thought it was a pretty good deal as well, I pretty much bought it sight unseen lol appreciate the support 🙏🏽
3 years never a problem
PREACH 🙌🏽 same here!
Your video is so helpful. I am considering to get 2022 Stelvio base with 30K miles under $24k.
Sounds like a really great deal! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I love the Stelvio, I also bought my 22 Giulia with red on red and love it! Sorry I haven't had a chance to comment much but love the content. Im waiting on some stuff from Jason and planning some mods! Keep up the good work, you seem like very good people!! Mine doesn't have the red on the dash. Only red seats....
No worries brotha! I appreciate any time you have to comment , it means a lot to us. I’m sure you got some cool things from Jason 👀 we definitely will keep on pushing! They stopped the red dash in 2019, right?
@@ModdedMotors I believe so because mine is only the seats. I would keep it, if you clean the leather really good with a brush and ceramic coat it after it gives it a nice matte finish and eliminates the shine. I use the Gyeon leather cleaner and car pro shield!
@@Toto-nm9ou I gotta try that!
I leased a 2021 Stelvio TI no issues whatsoever. Smooth quick ride!
Talking to a car dealer now about an Stelvio . It’s listed 15 , 000 $ , 80k miles if there is any that can help give me a little bit of insight advice before I make the decision on getting it please .
I've had the Stelvio Quad for over a year now, zero issues. It's a great vehicle although I think the 4-cyl is more than enough, the V6 is honestly overkill. I mean who needs to go 170 MPH
I think the Stelvio QV is so underplayed, after the 2.0 builds we’re most likely going QV. I’d much rather have the Stelvio vs Giulia. 500hp in a suv is not needed at all but that’s the best part 😂 one of the fastest production SUV’s. You never need 170mhp but it’s nice to have just in case 😅
I was worried when I saw the pictures on instagram. Though you guys got a QV, was worried we wouldn’t get anymore multiair content!
$24 is an absolute steal
We might do a QV in the future but for now all 2.0 content 🙌🏽
Right !? 24k is such a good deal!
Congrats you guys. Can’t wait to see the build!
Thanks brotha! We’re so excited for parts to come in 😅
Looking forward to the journey to the QV build! Already looks great as is, red interior is 🔥🔥 I had red interior in my old Lexus IS350 and loved it!
Thank you brotha! I’m excited to see how it comes out! IS350 with red interior is cleannn 🔥
My wife and I bought two new 2019 Stelvios. Due to the pandemic, neither of us has 20K miles yet. We keep up with maintenance and have had some maintenance conducted a little early. I have had no problems with my car at all. She had an issue with her adjustable suspension (I do not have that feature) that was covered under warranty. I have been reading about and following Alfa Romeo since the late 1970s. The biggest issue is that a lot of the dealerships went out of business. A lot of people can't appreciate what the car is about (sporty driving nature).
Yea dealer network is the biggest thing that will hurt the brand! Glad you’re enjoying the Alfas.
That interior is something else Love the red. Dude the QV stuff is gonna be so great
Thank you brotha! I’m so excited to see how this changes !
Good pick! I sold my Camaro in prep for another icon car in a year or so but I think I'm going to keep the Giulia. We were shopping for a Stelvio for a minute and discovered the newer Qs don't have paddle shifters, what the hell!!! Anyway, bought a Ridgeline for utility and now the wife makes me drive it whenever she wants to go somewhere, which is irritating but she loves the Giulia. Observations: Reliability, our 19 Ti has been fault-free, including when I added the GFB diverter thing, paddle shifters, Squadra tune, and I figure it'll be fine when I do the RDNA switch that delivers Friday. Hybrid turbo coming in the summer. Color: Your red interior kills, the haters just don't get it. Our car is Lipari Gray Metallic and the red interior looks amazing to us in that combination. Keep the content coming, I look forward to your upcoming offerings!
Makes sense!
Same here 0 complaints with reliability. I love the red as well! That gray metallic probably looks great in the sun! Thank you so much! We definitely have a lot of content coming.
I must be very lucky, my 2019 TI Sport haven’t have one single problem since new
Love mine so far!
Congratulations, beautiful SUV I love the Stelvio red on red , I can't wait for next video
Thank you! Coming really soon!
Not sure how Alfa is seen as unreliable!! I honestly love driving your Alfa whenever I get the chance to be behind the wheel! Hell, I remember even saying I'd buy one because how reliable it is and how it responds well to performance mods. At 3xxhp, y'all kept up with my 500+ 240sx until I got into 3rd gear. If the Stelvio is anything like the Giulia, this thing is going to be a bad ass build. I'm excited to see it!!
Are we going to race again soon 🥹 I think so too, both of them together will be such a cool build. Thank you for the support dude 🫶🏼
@@ModdedMotors Lol. I had to go back and edit the first sentence. Stupid auto correct. I'm down as soon as the weather cooperates! We gotta hit a highway for a true test. The warehouse was limited. Remember the run with your Supra? Seeing the last video of the tune, I have a strong feeling it's gonna be comparable to that of not, closer!!
@@grippin_aint_easy I saw that 😂😂 let’s go off reading now 😂 dude we definitely need more space to do pulls, but honestly it feels really good. It’s a completely different car
Love my Stelvio! Can’t wait to see the modifications 👍🏻😀
A ton more coming 🙌🏽
I brought myself a little OBD reader as sometimes mine would kick into limp mode during overtakes. It happened twice and both times the OBD reader worked by just clearing the codes and restarting the car. It's not an Alfa without a little Italian issue lol
I absolutely hate touch screens and the nasty fingerprints that come with them. I love the tactile feel of a more “manual” dial.
I can see that! I do like some touch!
Long time Alfista and have mainly owned & modded '60's - 90's Alfas over the past 30yrs. Just bought (month ago) a 2021 Stelvio 2 Liter with 32K so my first modern Alfa. Fun fact was that I got tired of waiting for Alfa to return to the U.S. and so I bought a Caddy ATS 2L Turbo in 2013 with a 6sp manual. Looked to upgrade to a Giulia QV when they hit the shore but crazy mark ups and availability halted that so I upgraded to a '16 ATS-V - again with a 6sp Manual, and drove the snot out of that car for 4+ years. Those are capable cars and good segment competitors, but glad I finally made my way into a newer Alfa. Ironically, those ATS's, and now the CT4's & CT5's ride the GM Alpha platform! (as well as the Camaros)
i’m so excited for you guys to make content on this!!! this is definitely a huge milestone for the channel, again im so proud of you guys, keep it rollin!! 😍🫶🏼🫶🏼
Thank you 🥹🫶🏼 we’re so excited too! Appreciate the love and support! Thank you for commenting
Can’t wait to see what you guys do to this bad boy
If you really want to see then don’t move 😭
I've got a 2020 Stelvio Ti as well and no issues whatsoever....
Love to hear it 🙌🏽
Congrats!!! 👍🏼 Next Alfa 4C? 😉
Lol 😂 yea if Alfa doesn’t make another sports car
@@ModdedMotors Have one in addition to the Giulia and in the category of sports cars, you won’t find much better! 👍🏼. Like the Giulia and the Stelvio - I’m sure you will be very impressed. Enjoy!
@@samn1217 I think it would definitely look great 😂 I need to get rid of some of these cars
I drove my 2.0T Giulia for 1,5 years with all sorts of small but annoying electrical problems the dealer didn't know how to fix. Upgraded to the strongest AGM battery possible 2 months ago and car runs smooth as butter and never had any problems ever since. If I were you that'd be the first part I'd replace.
A battery is definitely a must upgrade on these!
I'm looking at these.....May I ask what the "QV" conversion is? Thanks, good content!
QV stands for Quadrifoglio, basically swapping all the aesthetic parts from the QV. Hood, rear / front bumper; side skirts
@@ModdedMotors very cool
The 2024 face lift with digital cockpit is gonna be nice
Already scouting for one! Definitely will be a nice touch
I totally agree with you on the RED.
Some people like it! I’m not a fan of the exterior at all. I need a darker color 😅
mY 2018 Stelvio has been unbelievably reliable. Unbelievable because it's an Alfa, you'd expect it to break but it hasn't!!! I've had more problems with other makes.
Honestly that’s been my same experience! Don’t know why there’s so much negativity around reliability
Would be curious for you to test out / provide feedback on the Madness MaxPower Pro on the Stelvio. Just picked up a stelvio and thinking about that ecu piggyback myself. But, as you have more experience with mods, I'd want to see your thoughts.
If I can find one for the right price absolutely! The madness max power is cool if you’re looking for the best piggy back that’ll be JB4. I use to have a power pack in my first Giulia
I want to go get one of the leftover new 22 Veloce at Ft Worth so much.
They’re having really good deals right now!
I own a 2019 Stelvio with 45k miles on it. Recently, the fuel pump failed. It’s my understanding that these cars run hot and this is a know issue when the car ages and temps get very hot. The dealer later found a timing cover leak. Both of these issues were fixed under warranty. The car has been very reliable otherwise. In all fairness to Alfa, i live in Phoenix and the desert heat is rough on every car. I’ve owned Honda’s, VW’s, BMW and I still think my Stelvio is reliable. It’s certainly better than any of the four VW’s i owned.
I’m about to buy on so I’ll be watching you guys ….
Appreciate you 🤝 we have some new mods specific to the Stelvio coming! Check out some of our other Stelvio videos, we have a playlist
How do you know if you have a Ti model or not
If you pull the vin, you can pull up the window sticker
Will you guys be keeping the Guilia?
Of course! Giulia is never leaving 🙌🏽
I’m glad, I was worried for a second
No no lol the Giulia is basically paid off, so it’ll just sit here. We plan on doing more to it still, we just added a second car for filler content. Since the channel didn’t like the FRS and IS content lol
@@ModdedMotors Mmm I See

Definitely a great addition to the garage 🙌🏽
Enjoy your Stelvio! I have it the same my19 but unfortunately with the last infotainment firmware, Apple car play has some problems like google maps in light mode. In the stelvio my2020 touchscreen it works ☹️
Thank you! Interesting! I’ve been thinking about upgrading my Giulia unit to a touch screen. If it goes well I might upgrade the Stelvio as well
@@ModdedMotors wow! So I’ll wait your video 😎
Beautiful Stelvio Alfaromeo .I on one ❤️❤️❤️❤️
They’re such beautiful cars!
Mazda makes a nice red interior as well. I'm new to the alfa and you've quelled my fears. My biggest problem is park sense and auto shut off.
I love Mazda interior as well!
That is an amazing deal you snagged on it! Maybe with your stelvio vids I can convince the wife to get one now 😂. I've already piqued her interest in it after I got the Giulia, but the only thing holding her back is no dealers here in Jax that can do warranty work anymore. I'm not too concerned with it but it's a bigger deal for her. Also, when you said the 2 brands that do red leather interiors the best, I thought exactly the same thing; Alfa and Lexus 100%. Funny enough, since she might not get a Stelvio her top choice atm is the new NX 350 with the red interior, which I'm all for cause I think those look great too.
I’ll do my sales pitch every video! 😂 I definitely understand the warranty aspect, within reason everything is very manageable. Honestly I absolutely love Toyota/Lexus I’m a huge JDM advocate. The NX350 is really nice and it was definitely on my list of potential SUV’s. If it’s not Alfa, Lexus is a great alternative. Obviously I’m biased on the Stelvio right now 😂
License plate is on the wrong side and partially covering the radar sensor, lots of people have errors show on the dash when the plate is installed this way.
Mine is already removed , this was months ago when I first got it. No need to run a plate in Texas
I'm in Texas and currently looking at buying a fully spec'd 2018 Stelvio with 40k miles for under $26 sticker was $58 lol I plan on doing a 5 year loan but do you think it would be worth it buying a extended warranty? I only drive roughly 10k miles a year so I'm not sure it would be worth the additional cost of a warranty.
An added warranty is always best on used cars, you don’t know how the car has been maintained. Can you possibly risk it and be fine, most likely yes. If you have the extra funds I’d recommend it
Got my eyes on a fully loaded ‘19 Ti Sport, want to do a wide body on it, but it’s for the Mrs so we’ll see 😂
Great stuff, the Stelvio is underrated for sure, not too keen on the Tonale because I’m not behind the EV trend the Auto Industry decided to go
A wide body is always the goal 😂
Yea I like the Tonale but I’m not ready for EV lol I thought there were going to release an all petrol motor one like they are for the hornet. Once they drop officially we’ll know more but I’d want that version lol
No oil leaks! o-ring issues not just the coolant for the turbo, but under the turbo and cat exhaust leaks next to the turbo!? My stelvio 2018 39k
Hi do you know anyone local that can install a SGW bypass in a 2022 stelvio quadrifolgio? I got the squadra dongle and want to try out RWD on that beast!

I wonder how similar the Stelvio is to the higher trim Cherokee turbos. The Cherokee has the same engine but a ZF9HP, instead of a ZF8.

Italian cars are among the most reliable in the world 💪🏻🇮🇹💥
That’s what I’m trying to show people 💪🏽 I absolutely agree!
what is your annual insurance and maintainance cost for this car?
$3,600 for insurance but I have 4 cars, and I have any entire video where I go over my maintenance costs:

Nice! but in general terms GIULIA > STELVIO ;)
Oh I agree 😂 Giulia is definitely still better
We, the owners, don't need to prove the reliability of these cars. We know it ourselves.
Those who keep playing down some brands are the ones having to present data to prove their claims.
It's funny that almost everybody looks to some brands with skepticism and even contempt, except their owners.
It's a shame that the car industry seems to have the need to have an underdog and even a bigger shame that it's always the same manufacturer group. These false claims have created this unreliable image that has been favoring some car manufacturers, while seriously affecting the sales of some others.
Wow only 24K, that is super cheap for that low of miles. I keep finding them for over 30K.
That’s exactly where I kept finding them at! When I saw this one I jumped so fast 😂
it's simply impossible
at the bottom of every reliability ranking for years and years
there are land rover / range rover
Well that’s not the reality for this year, the reports you’re referring to are JD power. This year they’re at the top if you haven’t checked them recently. JD power reviews consumer complaints and unfortunately because they have a poor reputation people assume the worst. If you deep dive into the consumer reports none of it was related to engine or transmission, it was all related to electrical. It was also Alfas first year selling mass produced cars in the state and they had no dealer infrastructure. I’ll be the first to admit their dealer network is still rough, but I’ll attest to reliability any day of the week. I’ve owned 3 Alfas and I’ve done well over 180,000 miles without issues. If you go over seas every country says they have amazing reliability, it’s just the US that has issues. When they stopped selling cars in 1995 they left a bad perception and it’s something they have to come back from. I’ve read the consumer reports, I’ve read the JD power, I’ve called dealer all around the US to test the dealer network, and I’ve put more miles than most people in the US. I’m not an Alfa fanatic I just test it for the content because that’s what people want to see, and I’ve been honestly quite impressed.
I’m 17 and I wanna get one for my graduation do you think it’s reliable for me
It’s hard to say brotha, if you have a warranty and can afford maintenance I’d say definitely do able.
Sheeeesh
🫶🏼 thanks brotha!
This simply isn’t true. The dodge hornet, which in all ways is a rebadged Alfa Romeo, has had so many issues with many examples of vehicles still in the dealership parking lot with 7 miles having catastrophic failures.
This video was made before the hornet… lol
And this is referring specifically to the 2.0 multiair

@@ModdedMotorsExactly!
PLEASE STOP DOING BURNOUTS. IT'S EXTREMELY BAD FOR YOUR OR ANY CAR. YOU CAN HIT THE LIMITER WEN DRIVING,BUT REEVING AND DOING BURNOUT WHILE STATIONARY IS REALLY STUPID AND IT DESTROYS THE CAT. DO YOU EVER HEAR A FORMULA 1 CARS REV OR DO BURNOUT? NOPE
Charles this is the content you’ll see on my channel. I’ve done enough burnouts and pushed my cars hard enough to know my limits. It’s not great for the car to rev at stand still but we only do it every so often. If you don’t like the content push onto another channel. We will continue to aggressively drive our cars the way they were intended to be driven.
This is false... Stationary burnouts are not bad for vehicles. If they were, they wouldn't be done at drag strips, where there is a whole lot more traction involved than on a street. F1 cars also don't use catalytic converters to be a good comparison to a production vehicle. Running your vehicle hard at incorrect operating temperatures will ruin your cat quicker than a burnout.
