Full disclosure: I am not a metal fan (disco, new wave, dance music person), but I am a new fan of this channel. Your commentary style is spot on and your honesty is refreshing (as in, you don't love everything in your genre, you distinguish the good from the bad). I discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago when watching a review that either Rocked or Crash Thompson did a couple of years ago on Danzig Sings Elvis. I looked around to see what other creators had to say about it and found your review. That led me down the video-watching rabbit hole and here I am, a new subscriber. Keep doing what you do and rock on!

Wow 17 albums! This band seems like the Overkill of doom metal. Literally pumping out new albums like clockwork with no delays.

I'm a fanatical concerning they're first 4 albums and they're last 5 albums. Esp The Plague Within.
Great job on the episode and great job with the reviews.
Thanks for covering this often overlooked group. An amazing band with very powerful albums.

Funnily enough, the albums that got me into their music were those more alt-metal sounding ones from the 2000s, because that was the kind of music I was into as a kid. Like I have so much nostalgia for Believe In Nothing, and I still fuck with a lot of the tracks on it, but it was so interesting to discover their early material as a teen, because it was not what I knew them for at all.

I have a hard time picking a favorite. I seriously love all of their albums. There are a few that I don't go back to as much, but I can at least find some things I enjoy about them. I'm gonna have to say my favorite is The Plague Within. Part of me wants to say Draconian Times, but I think Plague Within has more variety.

They are a great band, with a very interesting discography tbh especially since they changed their sound quite a bit like you said if it makes me interested what they do next for an album.
S: Gothic, Obsidian, Shades of God, Medusa
A: Faith Divides us Death Unites Us Draconian Times, The Plague Within, Lost Paradise
B: Icon, In Requiem, One Second, Host, Tragic Idol
C: Symbol of Life, Paradise Lost
    D: Believe in Nothing
Would be cool to see you maybe do the other bands in the peaceville trio
(My Dying Bride, Anathema) in the future.

Draconian Times, One Second and Host are my favorites. I'm just not into all the growling on the earlier and later albums. But there are great songs on these albums as well. I actually like Believe In Nothing. The McIntosh/Holmes Project Host are phenomenal.

Paradise Lost is my favorite metal band, so I was trying too hard not to judge lol. Great video overall! I have many favorites: Icon, Dranconian Times, Faith Divides Us, Shades of God, The Plague Within, and Obsidian. Least favorites would be: Lost Paradise, Believe in Nothing, Symbol of Life, and Medusa (maybe I need to revisit this one though).

Paradise Lost was actually one of the bands that got me into metal. First was Icon (sometime early 1995), then listened to all of their previous albums (my friends sister was totally into them), then Draconian Times came out and I would put it as my no. 1. Happy to hear your good opinion on Host, people often dismiss it as bad album because it's not metal. One Second is also in my top, loved it since first second I've heard it. For me their worst period was around Paradise Lost and In Requiem, to this day I rarely listen to those albums and find them not bad but kind of generic and bland. Faith Divides Us was their true return to form, also I think Obsidian is one of the best things they've ever done.

I’ll be honest, If TH-cam and The Metal Meltdown had been around when Host was released you’d have been downing a couple of shots to my asinine comments!😂 Fast forward to now and I think it’s my 3rd favourite album of theirs and this years Host album making my top ten. Really enjoyable review of one of my favourite bands of all time👍

Paradise Lost is one of the absolute best doom metal bands that are also masters of gothic metal too. Even when they’ve experimented with alternative metal, it’s worked out well. Here would be my rating of each album:
    Lost Paradise: 4/5
    Gothic - 4.5/5
    Shades of God - 4.5/5
    Icon - 4.75/5
    Draconian Times - 5/5
    One Second - 3.75/5
    Host - 3/5
    Believe in Nothing - 3.5/5
    Symbol of Life - 3.5/5
    Paradise Lost - 4/5
    In Requiem - 4/5
    Faith Divides Us-Death Unites Us - 4.25
    Tragic Idol - 4.5/5
    The Plague Within - 4.75/5
    Medusa - 4.5/5
    Obsidian - 4.25/5

Benefit of being square: most holes are round or roundish, so being square in shape decreases the odds of tumbling to one's death down said theoretical hole, or at least getting one of your angles lodged so that it's easier for search and rescue to locate your pointy self. Admittedly, small chance of any of this, but still.

amazing ranking i love paradise lost my favourite paradise lost albums that grew up listening to since 2006 in canada first then england in full 2009 realistically lost paradise 1990 which i have had on cd since i was in education 10 years since 2013 gothic 1991 on vinyl never got into icon so apart from icon draconian times 1995 which i have both on cd and vinyl i only have 3 paradise lost albums that i really love being lost paradise gothic and draconian times one second ver got into or host or believe in nothing or symbol of life or the self titled paradise lost from 2005 i heard in requiem on cd from my dad back in 2013 and hated it and have not listened to in requiem since then faith divides us death unites us never really got into i think i heard a snipet of tragic idol in school and don,t remember it all the plague within i barely listened to or remember medusa i never listened to in full or obsidian however i love darker thoughts as a song so my personal favourite paradise lost albums are only 3 that have stayed with me that i still listen to lost paradise gothic draconian times much bigger fan of my dying bride but still enjoy paradise lost and i would love to see a my dying bride ranking in 2024

I'm a big fan of PL but I just can't understand people who like "Shades Of God". Songwriting is weak, vocals are awful, playing technique downgraded. "Icon", "Draconian Times", "One Second" - legends and bangers. "Paradise Lost" and "Medusa" are best of new era. I strongly dislike only "Shades Of God", "Symbol Of Life" and "The Plague Within".
