I just rewinded and relistened to this line about 5 times. 'Mistakes aren't a reflection of our self worth, they are merely choices that didn't pan out as intended. But manipulative and abusive people will make you think otherwise.' holy heck have I been needing to hear that. What an absolutely amazing video. Fantastic fan base for an incredible show! Thank you😊😢🥺
It's and interesting take you said about Luz and The Collector. The Collector felt to me as a dark reflection of King than Luz, because on the surface he seems like everything that King wanted to be in the very beginning of the show: an all-powerful being; and how they are more related in the story, like Luz and Belos/Phillip. All-in-all, Great video, I really enjoyed it.
King and the Collector definitely share interesting character parallels! Since Luz is the show's main protagonist, I wanted to interrogate his function in the story from that perspective. Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I feel like probably once we get back to them in S3 in the demon realm side, we’ll definitely see more parallels between them and King along with Luz I believe. As during this hiatus, I been thinking how I very much enjoy how The Owl House when adding another antagonist, having them also be the other side of Belos’ order and control and I guess a (while not logically possible) dark reflection of “What if Luz stayed the way she was in the first episode and never matured?”
Regarding Amity's family name; typically, one gets it from the FATHER'S side of the family. But judging by the way Odalia behaved towards Alador destroying the Abomination Plant in Clouds on the Horizon. it sounds as though Blight Industries was HER idea. This would mean that Odalia is the actual blight, not Alador
The fact that she did end up having a predetermined role that only made things worse is ironic since it’s her own free will that gets her into that mess.
I like the relationship twixt Luz and Amity partially because it depicts a same sex romance in relative isolation from homophobia, which gives the dynamic time to breath and be itself without the stigma, and it is portrayed as a perfectly healthy, normal romance, and that's good solid messaging.
This is such a beautifully crafted video! I dont know whether its the music, the word choice, or maybe just cause your voice is so lovely, but it nearly brought me to tears! Existentialist philosophy has been important in my life as of late, and I'm surprised I havent more explicitly connected the dots with how its used in the Owl House until now
I'd actually argue that Amity's arc comes full circle in "Follies at the Coven Day Parade." She not only begins repairing her relationship with Willow, but also the test of the first real disagreement between her and Luz, which they both handle with flying colors.
And all the other things they go through after that! No arguing, no fighting, just genuine communication and understanding. Hatdem they handled writing a healthy relationship well
I absolutely love the point you make starting at 22:33. Maintaining balance is what helps us grow the most, like Luz letting both fantasy and reality thrive in her life, so she can be the best possible version of herself. That is why I would argue there IS a healthy balance between ideals of both Existentialism and Predeterminism. It is great to go through life forming yourself through experience and becoming your own person, but it can be as equally great to believe there is a reason you are where you are right now, and that you can make the best of your life by being your own hero.
Amazing video, so glad TH-cam recommended this! I especially loved the inspection of the Blight name (I can't believe I hadn't realized that) and the connection between Luz and The Collector's creativity. The quote at the end was also perfect for Luz, since her name means "Unyielding Light"
The name also evokes things like the “Lux Aeterna” part of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass, the Roman deity Sol Invictus (the Unconquerable Sun whose Winter Solstice Feast marked one of the major origin points for Christmas), and Ein Sof Ur, the Unending Light of G*d that pervades the universe in Kabbalistic thinking.
There are only TWO instances where the "chosen one" trope actually appeals to me, the first is by far the most long-lasting and famous one; Arthur Pendragon pulling the sword from the stone. Some depictions claim this was ordained by Heaven, who viewed Arthur as the most pure among humans to become the chosen leader of Briton/England. Others say that it was because of his blood connection with Uther Pendragon that the miracle became possible. Either way, Arthur's achievement helped inspire many to join him and when there were others who didn't (namely those who STILL saw him as a squire) Arthur gave the blade willingly to one of the outraged lords and asked said lord to help knight him. This man COULD'VE double-crossed Arthur right then and there, use the sword to strike him dead on the spot. But somehow, either by God's will or his own conscience, the lord was merciful and granted Arthur his request; thus making the boy an equal. The second time I approve of the "Chosen One Trope" is from ABC's Once Upon A Time; where the lead hero, Emma Swan, is decreed to be the Savior who will help save magic. THIS is made possible because Emma is the product of a true, loving union between Snow White and Prince David (better known as Prince Charming.) Of course, Emma doesn't have all the skills to BE the Savior from the get-go...heck, she doesn't even BELIEVE she's that until the end of Season One. But once she realizes who she is, Emma's powers are eventually unlocked and she becomes one of Storybrooke's greatest hopes...besides that of Henry, her son. Sadly, movies and TV of late (with the exception of Owl House) have grossly been misusing the trope without actually understanding what it REALLY means. Thankfully, Eda helps Luz understand how to REALLY make her mark on the world; not by having "Fate" make it so but through her own actions. However...looking back on this episode, I'm STILL left wondering how a magical world like the Boiling Isles feels so "modern" despite looking like something out of the Middle Ages. I'm also left wondering why Eda was such a lousy mentor and barely did ANYTHING to teach Luz any skills
Fellow fan of Arthurian legend here -- you've done a fantastic job summarizing why that story is as compelling as it is. Despite knowing the mythology well, I keep buying and reading books about it because King Arthur has always piqued my imagination, too. As for Once Upon a Time, the first season is near and dear to my heart. The other six are...less so, but the show is another great example of the chosen one narrative done in a compelling and fresh way. Teaching doesn't appear to come naturally to Eda, but what's interesting is that she and Luz learn a lot from each other. That's part of what makes their bond so compelling.
morrowind has the best example of a chosen one. the nerevarine would end the reign of a set of pseudo-gods but has to be born on a specific day of the year, be immune to disease/age, reunite the tribes, wear a certain ring, and end the immortality of those pseudo-gods. the thing is, literally none of that is fundamental to a person outside of being born on a certain day and a whole lot of people born on that specific day of the year was sent before you to do the whole prophecy (you even talk to their ghosts!). everything else is something you have to make happen yourself on orders from an empire that wants to see the prophecy fulfilled properly solely for political reasons. sure you could choose to believe that the demon god of prophecies sent you, but it is just as (if not more) likely that you were just a guy in the wrong place at the wrong time and just did what you had to.
@@JennyCook57If you don’t mind me asking, what is it about “Once Upon a Time” in general and it’s take on the Chosen One trope in particular that you personally find so compelling?
This was an exceptionally well thought out video on many of the characters. Although season 3 will be short, I suspect it'll the cherry on top of all the incredible stuff we've received in the show so far and we, the viewers will be left sad, happy, satisfied and yet longing for more. Such will be the fate of an incredible show like The Owl House which will forever be in both our hearts and memories.
The conciseness you used to describe all of these characters is amazing. The ideas brought up were so impactful because of that. Keep making videos, because once they catch wind I know you’ll be popular
strangely enough, I've found power & change thru the acceptance of no free will. I realized my choices & "failures" of the past were based on trusting those who raised me, not because I decided to be bad that day. It's kinda like how your coach will yell & throw chairs, but you just shrug it off as "whatever" because you WERE following his lead. This isn't to say change can't happen. In fact, I notice most change happens from distrusting established power & not trusting its validity. The weird part of giving up free will & realizing it's all dominoes or "turtles all the way down," I began to see thru said shame & rather, value my OWN values, giving up the result, rather than capitulating for survival. My parents don't have my best interests at heart, continue to deadname & misuse my pronouns because they've invested so much identity they don't want to lose. "no free will" deprives us of pride & shaming others, but I think acknowledging the reality of the chemistry behind the philosophy is important & the basis. Living w/out fear of the consequence is the goal, and if we always make a choice w/ our best interest at heart, we can never "make a mistake," so to speak. This has led to me being happier & more confident, able to move on from the unexpected much easier...my parents & ex would fly into a rage if anything was how they didn't plan (control freaks). Just a thought, would love to talk about it w/ ya sometime if you're up for it but i thought i'd share. Your content is great, adore owlhouse & was Raine for Halloween. Take care!!
I had to force myself to click on this video because I really wanted to watch it but philosophy scares my subconscious and makes me overthink, but I'm glad I did, because it was a really cool video! The depth of the characters in the owl house is so well written and presented, and I did not piece together alot of the smaller moments of the show that really represent the characters current state and path of growth, so thank you for making this!
The take on The Collector was really interesting to me, I never thought about it that way. This video is an absolute masterpiece. The line about King choosing his family hit me right in the feels. I'm looking forward to see more of you
THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE...i dont know if i commented already but heres another because this is fucking beautiful?? i genuinely thought this was like rebecca rose or something, i was stunned when i saw the sub count on scrolling. like this lowkey almost made me cry
At the end of the video, that quote u said literally almost made me cry because I felt that it was wording about how Luz's life if. She went from a normal kid that nobody talked to in the human realm, to a brave and brilliant witch who learned magic and made friends and helped people. She couldn't do all of that in the human realm because she had no hope, but she gained hope from people like Eda, Amity, Willow, Gus, Hunter etc...…she learns that not everything relies on simple book about a witch and figures out that not everything can be done from a solo job.....she knows that she can't do everything alone and figured out that she needed help to go through with her trauma/suffering...…Luz is a good kid and with the friends that she has by her side....she knows that anything is possible....
@Jenny Cook Agreed, Season One of OUAT always stands as my personal favorite part of the series...but I STILL loved the others. I also agree that Luz and Eda DID help each other grow quite a bit; the latter even said that her life got so much better since they met. I just can't help but look back at how nonchalant Eda often acted, whenever Luz wanted to actually learn some spells. Sure, what she said about "listening to the Isles" back in Adventures in the Elements WAS a big help...but she actually made it seem like NOT going to school is the greatest choice a person could make. I'm thankful, though that she got over her pride and ultimately decided to enroll Luz at Hexside; after seeing just how poorly her "teaching methods" worked on Hooty
Underrated moment from Adventures in the Elements: Luz: "I can make light glyphs, but at the end of the day, that's the only spell I know." Eda: "And whose fault is that?" Luz: "Yours!" Eda: "Ha! Yep! Got me there."
i mean, at that point it was kinda like telling a child "yeah sure you can learn to fly" and then that kid going on to invent the airplane. like, there was no way for her to actually teach anything to a person without the unique anatomy of a witch, the glyphs she discovered were an entirely forgotten type of magic. although it is very much a good thing she enrolled her in school, for the social aspect if nothing else.
I really love this show and the main reason of it is its characters, their arcs, and struggles, but I'm struggling to find the right vocabulary, psychology or reasons why I love them. And I believe you made that possible with this video. The sense of identity and existentialism. Great video, I'm so glad this was recommended to me on my feed.
How does this video only have two comments? This was freaking AMAZING! hopefully you get more attention and love soon ma'am, this is a stellar piece of work.
I like how you kept using the metaphor of light in this video. I absolutely adore the symbolism of Luz's name, and the fact that her first spell was a light spell. It ties right in to what you discussed. That Liz brings light to others' lives.
Wow great video! Always loved the Owl House's themes but this just lays them out beautifully. Not only made me think about the characters but about myself too, and why I'm so drawn to the show! Also been thinking a lot about existentialism so this video is just very touching to me
I was on my way to bed. And the algorhythm showed me your video. I will not make a huge comment now, but, know that, you got me to tears. But GOOD ones. I am working with these themes lately, and predeterminism/ existentialism as well as self actualisation, and innocence VS experience. Just know you made my week end better. Taking conscience of the vanity of all things, should always be balanced with seeing ancient things with newly crafted eyes. My apologies, if that's cryptic. I go sleep, but, amazing work ♪
I love this show so much. And I'm glad someone mentioned that Luz and the collector are foils of each other. I said that when we first learned more about them and S3 just proved me right. I'm sad we won't get to see the full extend of it but oh well. Great analysis, btw.
Your reflection of the growth of each of these characters really resonated with me. It addressed the fullness and depth of identity shared to us in this show, and your conclusion was so grounded and inspiring. I hope you continue to create videos like these
“They make me think about the kind of person I really want to be” is such a powerful statement. Disney gets a lot of well earned and valid criticism but I’m glad they didn’t completely gut this show and cut it off without any kind of ending. It’s definitely too short but the end we got was satisfying and well written all things considered.
damn was this a great video very well done also that was a great quote. also I'm glad you made the distinction that the Boiling isles titan is King's relative and not his dad apparently quite a few people in the fandom for some reason think that's King's dad but that just doesn't add up.
Woah. That’s a lot of smart words Edit: i looked at the comments now and it got to me this one won’t probably get so lost in them as i previously thought. This is an amazing video, and, um, how do i say this, despite me not watching the whole series made me a) want to finish it as soon as i can b) kind of think about my own philosophy So yeah, after editing this comment im going to binge most of your other content.
Very very good Video. Im trying to Do a Project too, but I could never talk about these Charakters like you just did. Thanks for uploading and I wish you all the best
I haven’t had a video read me like this maybe ever. As I remarked to my friend, I hated Amity initially as a knee jerk reaction. I saw myself as a teenager, clinging to grades for a sense of approval and wanting credit for every little bit of my work. This is so beautifully done and incredibly well said.
the way your video made me cry while questioning myself just shows how complex the owl house is and how well you explained each and every character. tysm

This was wonderful, you’re so chill and clear and well spoken, I really enjoyed it!!! There was a bunch of stuff you talked about that I hadn’t even realised before :)
This was beautiful. I’ve been looking for video essays and character analysis of this show for a while and hadn’t come across many. And then yours blew me away with its thoughtfulness. I was really moved by your descriptions of each character’s arc and the way you connected everything to existentialism. I’m excited to check out the rest of your vids!

I know this is a weird comment but….. you talk so good! Calming and engaging at the same time! Like, you could read for audiobooks if you really wanted to and you’d be successful. I also love your analysis of the characters! ❤❤❤
I absolutely adore videos like this and I just...wow. That was so well executed and had me laughing and tearing up. Beautifully articulated and just furthers my admiration for this show and the writers and the incredible job they did tackling various delicate topics. Thank you so much for this deep dive!!
A thing that spoils something? Wow now everything makes sense You see in my landguage her last name was translated as "Ruina" wich mean ruins and I didn't understood why
Fun fact: I like to imagine “What if ‘The Owl House’ was based on a book or book series?” and my ideas for how the book would have differed from the TV show include “the protagonist of the original book is an orphan of mixed Jewish and Rromani descent where Luz is Afro-Latina” and “The antagonist of the book is a woman who grew up an orphan in medieval Rome and who wants to subjugate the Human and Demon Realms under her Witch Supremacist Theacracy”.
We need omeone to ask Amity how she met Luz, because I want to see what convolluted lie she crafts or if she dead ass says "When I tried to get her dissected on school"
Thinking about how “The Owl House” can be read as a Christianity metaphor wherein Belos represents a destructive and unsustainable form of faith rooted in fear and an obsession with being "worthy" of grace while Luz represents a faith based in love and acceptance which heals and restores and opens both herself and the people whose lives she touches up to wonderful things.
@@JennyCook57 Thanks. I also read it as a Jewish immigrant story about a child mistreated and persecuted and hurt in the Old Country who comes to a New Land looking for refuge and met other outcasts and weirdos and together they became a family/pack and built a sanctuary and the whole entire story is about them trying to protect that sanctuary from a walking symbol of the outside “normal” world’s cruelty towards the marginalised who wants to take it away from them and destroy it because he considers it “sinful” and “impure”.
As an atheist I can relate a lot to this. We create our own meaning and purpose but I don't exactly believe in true free will. No one is free to do what ever they want but psychological free will does exist though.

This is criminally underrated, I’ve never been more invested in a video! :]
Great video! That Stanley Kubrick quote at the end hit me hard lol
Titan I love this show
I love this video so much!I hope this gets enough recognition,it's so underrated!
This is one of the best explained reviews I have seen.
How does this video only have two comments? This was freaking AMAZING! hopefully you get more attention and love soon ma'am, this is a stellar piece of work.
This is such a great video and so underrated too! I especially love the quote at the end “…to emerge from the darkness, we must supply our own light…”
I like how you kept using the metaphor of light in this video. I absolutely adore the symbolism of Luz's name, and the fact that her first spell was a light spell. It ties right in to what you discussed. That Liz brings light to others' lives.
I love that you include one of Amity's top lines where she tells her mom off in scene.
Why don't you have more suscribers? This is so good!
Wow great video! Always loved the Owl House's themes but this just lays them out beautifully. Not only made me think about the characters but about myself too, and why I'm so drawn to the show! Also been thinking a lot about existentialism so this video is just very touching to me
this vid was so good, you must be really satisfied with your work
I was on my way to bed.
I go sleep, but, amazing work ♪
Hey I am probably going to have this playing in the bg of me doing laundry a million times. Great video
It’s definitely too short but the end we got was satisfying and well written all things considered.
amazing video, i love it, but the little miss perfect audio clip playing for amity, i just- i can't-
This video was beautiful thank you!
damn was this a great video very well done also that was a great quote. also I'm glad you made the distinction that the Boiling isles titan is King's relative and not his dad apparently quite a few people in the fandom for some reason think that's King's dad but that just doesn't add up.
Woah. That’s a lot of smart words
Edit: i looked at the comments now and it got to me this one won’t probably get so lost in them as i previously thought.
This is an amazing video, and, um, how do i say this, despite me not watching the whole series made me
a) want to finish it as soon as i can
b) kind of think about my own philosophy
So yeah, after editing this comment im going to binge most of your other content.
I have no idea who you are, this is the first video I’ve seen of yours. But your voice is so comforting and soft🥹 (also I think u are super pretty❤️)
Thank you!
Can't wait until someone includes one of the micro heavy designs of the infinity coster.
Even if it has a bad connotation, “lavender menace” sounds really cool
Very very good Video. Im trying to Do a Project too, but I could never talk about these Charakters like you just did. Thanks for uploading and I wish you all the best
I haven’t had a video read me like this maybe ever. As I remarked to my friend, I hated Amity initially as a knee jerk reaction. I saw myself as a teenager, clinging to grades for a sense of approval and wanting credit for every little bit of my work.
This is so beautifully done and incredibly well said.
This was amazing! I enjoyed this a
very lot and this is hugely underrated !!
the way your video made me cry while questioning myself just shows how complex the owl house is and how well you explained each and every character. tysm
The end has me in tears, I‘be been toying around with getting an owl house tattoo but I wanted it to mean something, to captivate what the show means to me, that, the end, that’s it💛
“Light doesn’t give in.”
You definitely deserve more views and subs! I love your attention to detail, your transitions to different topics, it all flows so smoothly and purposefully. Your background music choices also help too- I really love the self reflective nature of piano music and it really fits your videos to a T
Love this video!
Hope you will do cool stuff again
I just came back to this video, and the end got me again
I've only seen one episode of The Owl House, and despite lacking some context, I could fully enjoy and understand the video due to how perfectly encapsulating it is. It was a well-worth cozy analysis!
today i learned Luz Noceda actually means Night Light
I thought it meant “Light does not give in” or “Light does not yield”.

:( I didn't come here to be called out like this
Just found you. Great vids, keep it up!
Wonderful video. When I saw existentialism I clicked 👍.
I like the quote at the end
This is such a beautiful video, I'm literally speechless.
That was a beautiful quote at the end
8:04 And thus, it can be seen as him maintaining an illusion of being perfect.
This was wonderful, you’re so chill and clear and well spoken, I really enjoyed it!!! There was a bunch of stuff you talked about that I hadn’t even realised before :)
How does this have so little views? This is insane quality content!
I'm not gonna lie. This made me cry.
This was so beautiful and well put together, subbed, I can’t wait to see what else you have to say.
When I came here, I expected over 100k views, nearly the same amount of likes, and you having 50k subscribers with over 75k comments.
YALL WYA??? GET ON THIS, OWL HOUSE FANDOM!!!!
I love how your video is amazingly crafted, though I have to say that Steve is my favorite character
Steve is a god-tier character
I know this is a weird comment but….. you talk so good! Calming and engaging at the same time! Like, you could read for audiobooks if you really wanted to and you’d be successful. I also love your analysis of the characters! ❤❤❤
That quote was so beautiful and wonderfully wrapped up such a great video like this one!
I absolutely adore videos like this and I just...wow. That was so well executed and had me laughing and tearing up. Beautifully articulated and just furthers my admiration for this show and the writers and the incredible job they did tackling various delicate topics. Thank you so much for this deep dive!!
I like The Owl House even more because of this vídeo.
god i love this show
this channel deserves more subscribers
After watching this video I expected to see a few mores zeroes in your subscriber count. With more videos like this it shouldn't take long.
People are getting so into the video they forget to like. Lmfao.
Side note: I would love to see your Cosplay Viney
This might seem like a small brain thing to realize after watching a deep video like this but I have the same exact microphone you were using.
I love your beautiful voice and clear soul❤
A thing that spoils something?
Wow now everything makes sense
You see in my landguage her last name was translated as "Ruina" wich mean ruins and I didn't understood why
8:28 UGH 😭 That hurts
We need omeone to ask Amity how she met Luz, because I want to see what convolluted lie she crafts or if she dead ass says "When I tried to get her dissected on school"
Awesome video!
I love this
@@JennyCook57 Thanks. I also read it as a Jewish immigrant story about a child mistreated and persecuted and hurt in the Old Country who comes to a New Land looking for refuge and met other outcasts and weirdos and together they became a family/pack and built a sanctuary and the whole entire story is about them trying to protect that sanctuary from a walking symbol of the outside “normal” world’s cruelty towards the marginalised who wants to take it away from them and destroy it because he considers it “sinful” and “impure”.
as a kid I was Gus but then I grew up to be a Hunter
Off topic: YOU SO SHOULD COSPLAY VINEY YOUR PERFFECCT!! Just put your Haie in a bun, get the Outfit + earring, and your all set!!
incredible vid, really enjoyed it
Amazing
This vid deserves more views ❤️❤️
I love this video ... You got a subscriber
This is really good! Thank you
awesome vid!
Great job!
As an atheist I can relate a lot to this. We create our own meaning and purpose but I don't exactly believe in true free will. No one is free to do what ever they want but psychological free will does exist though.
