The golden era of AHS has long since passed. The last several seasons feels like a completely different show from the latter. Where compelling bonechilling stories are replaced with a boring, cliche ai generated script.
I think AHS could come back but…..they need to keep the stories about the intimate relationships between people otherwise you’ve lost the audience-simply won’t care about the characters otherwise.
Asylum is genuinely one of the best pieces of TV I've ever seen. It's crazy that they've made so many god awful seasons in a row at this point. I wonder why the magic stopped, perhaps Jessica Langes departure and Ryan Murphy's weird obsession with casting talentless celebrities instead of real actors.
S11 was rather good
@glenny8000 I laughed more in that season than anything else. The campiness was there, for sure. After watching episode 2 and the featured song, "Daddy's Milk," I knew there was no way I could take season 11 seriously. Like I said, AHS golden era of compelling horror stories have long since past.
The last season I liked was Roanoke.

The first part felt like they dragged the suspense. Then when they were working on part 2, they rushed out the ending

I felt like I was going to a doctors appointment, waited in the lobby, got no answer, and as i was walking out the door maybe a meth head jumped out of some bushes; even then i just looked at the meth head like "that doctor did and said nothing...yay."

@@NIGHTGUYRYAN Coven has the 2nd worst ending in the series, second only to Red Tide (which has the worst ending EVER made by ANYONE). Papa dumb is horrible, Queenie's weird redemption arc with LaLaurie randomly ends with both characters acting completely contrived, the hunters die in a lame meeting and are completely pointless, the witches all die in dumb ways and the show acts like being the "Supreme" matters when THERE ARE NO WITCHES LEFT. They forget they can RESURRECT PEOPLE AND CHANGE THE WHOLE WORLD but all die in unsatisfying glossed over ways for the pointless "Supreme" title, the red witch burns herself up for stupid reasons the show tries to act are serious and real, one of the most embarrassing endings ever ruined an otherwise great beginning and middle.
I didn’t like covens ending at all and it felt like a mush of too many things at once. The best written seasons in my opinion were asylum and freak show. But I see the appeal of coven and murder house.

Cara was straight up cringry and embarrassing to watch. I couldn't stop just bursting out in laughter, especially in the final episode during all her scenes. Emma Roberts really carried this season on her back
honestly she didn't carry much. she looks confused and scared and that's all her character has to do. there's not much to work with given the script
As a Cara fan I agree, she was real bad. On the other hand, I loved Kim's acting tho.

Nahhhh Emma has fallen off. Her acting felt forced to me this season. I like it better when she plays a rich bitch. More believable of a performance when she gets to be herself.
I personally thought Cara was fine and Kim K was the true cringe fest
I think AHS still has potential to stay as a wonderful horror anthology we all fell in love with if they went back to their roots and focused on making a good story thats actually frightening.

I totally agree, it started to get uninteresting after episode 2. Then too much time wasted with filler like “it’s my body” crap. Mrs. Preach was a swing and a miss. Ivy’s and Adaline’s backstory was wasted for no reason. Dr Hill’s consistent involvement was not even needed. The worst of it all was Cora being a stalker out of nowhere in episode 8.
Emma roberts, Kim Kardashian’s, Leslie grossman, Denis o hare- the level of camp we could have got. Missed oppurtunity
at times i felt like the terrible acting WAS the camp

This season had loads of camp tfdym? At times it was so unserious and iconic then other times it’s pretty dark and gory.
I feel like longer a show goes on, it starts losing a part of what makes it special. AHS is very much like this, it lost Jessica Lange, Even Peters and Sarah Paulson, the storylines don't feel as good anymore and it has a lot of bad writing. It's amazing we got Emma Roberts back this season, but her character felt very... lacking, compared to her other parts in prior seasons. Also they ruined the season by shortening it and splitting the season up, AHS is very character story driven, 9 episodes isn't gonna cut it

@@9razzler9 I agree! Taissa was so freaking amazing in AHS with Violet and Zoe. It's just sad she hasn't even had a new character on the show since Sophie and Sophie was killed off in the single episode she appeared in by being burned at the stake. It was nice to see her return again as Zoe and Violet in Apocalypse, but they killed off Zoe for half the season and Violet only appeared in one episode, but her happy ending was erased by the ending of the season.

The final episode feels like a slap in the face for all fans. Especially after we've been kept waiting half a year for it. How can you build up such a solid framework and just let it all come crashing down in the final episode? It's never been this bad in any previous season. Wasted potential. I'm not even talking about the actors, I'm talking about the script. How can you fuck something up like that when you have a good book to work from? The changes could have been saved, then something good would have come out of it.

Exactly!!! What a huge loss of potential! My Spidey senses were tingling all over with the possibilities and in the end I went to watch the next episode this morning and found out I had already watched the finale! Are you frickin serious?! What a dud.
They did this with the last season as well. Huge boring build up just to dump everything at the end with some dumb symbolism. Gave up on the show after this and started watching recaps ✌️

It was a bad story. It was a regurgitated bad story attempting to make commentary about present-day issues with abortion, maternity, IVF, pregnancy, etc, and it simply got bogged down. There wasn't much in the way of horror. It felt more like a drama series punctuated by disturbing bits that ended up going nowhere. I'm not an intense horror fan, but initially, I thought they were focusing more on characters and societal circumstances, and they took a tangent to left field. I am reminded of The Fall of the House of Usher. A good story with horror in certain areas that support the story and talk about society. Maybe AHS should take lessons from Mike Flanagan or better yet, have him contribute to another season should there be one.
I had to stop half way through episode 6 cause I was forgetting what was going on. Decided to re-watch 1984 and am blown away with how good that season was compared to newer season's.

Ryan said he wants to make 13 seasons if he does he has to bring back Sarah, Evan, Lily, Frances all the original caat members just for the last season. AHS lost it's steam a while back but I believe bringing the original cast back would save it
Would it? I doesn’t seem like the problem it’s the cast, but the writing. It could help to bring back the core audience if they bring back those who you named. But after all AHS is not the cultural phenomenon it was back in the days (the hype I think it was between season 2 and 4.

Ending Explained from Reddit:
In episode 7, the witches circle Adeline, Ivy says "You have no power other than what she gives you" then Sonia says "and takes away". So Adeline had power, it got taken away by Siobhan once she left the cult, which explains why the chant failed for her at the restaurant, because she didn't have power.
Siobhan later gives Anna power when she accepts the baby and is given the green heels. Anna is able to cast the chant/ ritual at Siobhan with the power Siobhan gave her.
The witches are bloodbound, and die together.
Poor execution of the Finale overall. The writer put too much faith in the audiences to remember the lore (Ep7). And no recap for Part 1.

A modern update of Rosemary's Baby is a super interesting idea, the execution of that idea was terrible!

It was inspired by a book by Danielle Valentine called Delicate Condition that was inspired by rosemarys baby. The book was phenomenal. AHS butchered it.

Spoilers:
Rosemary starts to realize that she’s pregnant with the antichrist and resolves to kill him as soon as he’s born. But then he’s just…so cute. In the last couple of sentences you see her mother instincts take over.
I think AHS needs the 13 episode runtime! Especially for seasons that are character heavy!
The runtime doesn't matter for the spark of AHS ended a long time ago and all we are getting is hollow recycled ideas.

AHS spark faded a long time ago and Apocalypse is what killed it and it has been an empty husk ever since.
Plus I was seeing hints of Rosemary Baby type of feel since the first trailer and that is not good and not to mention the Hollywood looking storyline and the feeling of the occult themes were very much all there and if you can figure all of that out before the show even airs then you are already failing.

I haven’t watched this show in years but hard disagree. Ryan Murphy (just remembered his name) has a long history of being good at the start and failing to wrap shows out. He needs regulation. 4 episodes and done.
I think American horror story should have chosen apocalypse as the series finale. For the final Season, I hope it does something like apocalypse, I hope it brings many beloved actors from the various seasons back for one last curtain call.

Well, in Apocalypse, they killed Michael before he ascended to power, when he was at his weakest. With Siobhan, yeah, doesn't make any sense though I've seen people trying to explain it, it still doesn't make sense how an ancient being was so easily dispatched like that. It felt like the writers were done and ready to just end the story, so rushed to an ending that didn't make much sense.

It's funny you say that....I only watched the first season...and this was before knowing that each season was different. So when I watched 10 mins of first episode of Second season...I was like..What is going on? Is this a different show? Once I learned what it was/is...I said...NOPE...Mindnight Mass is not like this genre. I think Them is though. I havent watched Season 2 yet. I am not sure I will like Them beyond season 1...HOWEVER...there is one series, I did like that had a different story line, which is The Haunting...Both Seasons were two different story lines and both were solid on their own.

Casting Kim was the true American Horror story. Emma was the only spark that was bearable to watch but that spark burnt out fast

Season 11, NYC, would be difficult to top. That season had a wonderful cast of dedicated actors, music, and an emotional back drop, amid the AIDS crisis. It was difficult viewing the loss of Patrick and Gino.

Anabelle Dexter Jones was brilliant, especially in Ave Hestia. Other from that, I agree with everything else said.
She was the only character I cared about. Dex was the worst.
I just can't believe a show that started so strong has gotten to this point. It was basically Rosemary's Baby but with Kim Kardashian. And after i made that joke to my husband, the very next episode showed "Mia Farrow" filming Rosemary's Baby.
the first 3 seasons were gold. they started to get sloppy with the writing when hotel came out. hotel was decent. but it just got bad
the second part of double feature should've been its own season, the first part should've been the stereotypical vampires and made it camp asf it wouldve been so good and then they still could do zombies and sirens/pirates...or even fairies and all that shit but thats really straying away from "American Horror Story" ....they could do a season about native american folklore and all that and pay a little tribute to the indigenous people but im not sure how thatd go

I think Murphy has spread himself too thin with his other shows and isn't as invested in AHS as he was in the beginning. I tuned out after Roanoke, then came back for Part 1 of Double Feature and thought I give this season a chance. A mistake on my part.
What they omitted from the finale was what was up with the 6,000 years reference that was made in the flashback to Mary Tudor? From that point in history (Tudor Era) 6,000 years ago would have been the BC era which gave some weight to Siobhan being Lilith or some other ancient being, but it was only mentioned once and never again. And they had said, "he had waited 6,000 years". He who? Satan? An ancient god? Some other deity?
At least with the witches from Coven, they all brought some special ability to the group that helped the coven as a whole when required. None of these Delicates seemed to possess anything other than immortality, so don't know if they can be called witches, as it seemed Siobhan held all the power. They were just her minions who she worked through or who worked for her. Also didn't make sense why Siobhan would have approached a random Scottish woman, as Ivy didn't seem to offer anything. What set Ivy apart to have caught Siobhan's attention so many centuries ago?
I'm sure that all episodes were already written before starting the filming, it was not the WGA strike that stopped the season as you suggest but actually the SAG-AFTRA strike.
I felt like the first half of the season was pretty good. The second half was so disjointed from the first that I felt like I was almost watching a different show. I was so connected to the story and then got so confused - are we in the past? The future? The present? On a movie set? In Ireland? In NY? Also, I went from disliking Ryan’s character to looooaaathing him. I hope he never comes back… Siobhan was my favorite - Kim entranced me. Ps: Why the dolls? Still lost.

The fact they had Kim Kardashian on this season tells me all I need to know about its quality.
If AHS had a deal with Netflix, it would get cancelled already. First three seasons brought the whole show into the golden era because memes and internet culture. And don't forget Jessica Lange saved the whole show. Once when she left the show, it started going downhill.
(The only moment I felt the good old AHS was some apocalypse moments, especially Return to Murder House, and Red Tide first 5 episodes)

As Levi said to Erwin “Give up on your dreams and die.” I think it’s time to pack it up and just make proper sequel seasons for what we actually like. Murder house, coven etc
I feel like the writer strike also hurt the show since nobody was working on their shows and the writers had to finish it up fast
I absolutely loved the earlier seasons of the series but I feel like it’s just lost it’s spark, I don’t even know exactly how but it just doesn’t have the same feeling as the earlier seasons. I think a lot has to do with the cast changes, loosing Evan, Sarah, Finn, Taissa, Jessica and Kathy really hurt the show in my opinion, it just hasn’t been the same since then 😢
I think AHS in general should have ended many seasons ago.. it's been getting worse and worse, this was my first time getting back to it after a few years. With that being said, I think Emma did one of her best acting gigs yet with this role. With all the negative stuff in this season, she was the true beacon of hope.
The best thing about Delicate was Roberts' acting. I really felt her frustration and despair at being tormented, gaslit, and not believed. Everything else sucked, which is sad because the season had so much potential.
O PLEASE!!!!! Emma Robert's was given a trash script from the start for the hacks that Hollywood hires nowadays are activists and her acting was hollow like she was phoning it in and as for the rest o they were 10 kinds of terrible and the worst of them all was Kim K for she was just playing a supernatural version of herself.
It was went downhill after Coven. The first 3 seasons were absolutely excellent!
Listen. Had they brought in the witches it would’ve been fuego 🔥. The show clearly knows we love the witches and the sprinkle of them in is what could save the series
I had to come to this video to check whether or not it was the finale episode. Safe to say me and my husband are extremely disappointed. I’m seriously praying for the show’s future and hope it doesn’t get cancelled just yet…
In a series where Coven is beloved, this season about Witches failed horribly short of impressive. The funny part is that fans would’ve felt different about the whole season if there had just been even the slightest tie to Coven. Retroactively, it would have been a game changer.
Why AHS didn't work since Jessica Lange left. They should've cancelled like 5 seasons ago. 😩

I had initially thought that maybe as a gay man this was just a story I couldn't really relate to as the anxiety around expecting a child just isn't something that I have encountered in my life (much like how some of my straight friend didn't really "get" the NYC storyline and ending)
But I'm glad to see I'm not alone here in seeing that the ending felt a bit out of left field and rushed. I do wonder of the writer's strike forced them to push more into fewer episodes than initially intended? but either way it definitely feels like they just didn't quite know how to pace the story
This. All of this. During this whole season I figured as a gay man I just couldn't relate to child birth. While that was a part of me not understanding all of the emotion portrayed on screen.. A HUGE part was literally the writing seemingly being written by Ai haha. Loved AHS NYC though! The subtext woven through the story had me glued to my seat 😍

I honestly think most of the season wasn't bad, but lackluster due to the story. Yes IVF could be scary but this is far from its competition such as black mirror, Them, black mass, etc. Emma Roberts was the moment and the final episode was tragic. There was no real ending, it felt unfinished and the actors such as Cara or Kim dying scene were below par. Make this series scary again!
I think if they would’ve stuck with the book ending & the books version/reasons behind why the witches were doing what they were doing it could’ve worked. This was just trash.

I think they were already in hell, thats how Adeline was there in the spirit world and the chant didn't kill Siobhan, it only banished her and thats why you can hear the other witches chant in the background when Anna was in the white room
I also believe Siobhan is Lilith, it makes so much sense.
Also Adeline didn't give Anna powers Siobhan did when Anna accepted the baby. Adeline was only there for encouragement lol
I'm ashamed to say😢, this used one of my favorite shows. I actually feel bad Kim had to make her acting debut here. Her acting was pretty on point. RIP
They show what happened to Annabelle but did they ever show what happens to Sonia? Is she still with them? I don’t remember seeing her at the end after they show how Annabelle dies. Also what happens with the preacher lady??

I was actually intrigued after the first couple of episodes of this season but man the rate that this season went downnn was insane. Such a shame it keeps happening.

I feel Apocalypse (season.8) was truly the last (and good season) you could consider having somewhat of the wit, horror and fun that the last ones had. Since then the whole show has felt like dragging a corpse around hoping its gonna rewake again. It's painful and sad to watch as a previously devoted fan.

I miss the times when even the worst seasons of AHS were the mix of 20 plotlines and 200 characters where horror constantly switched with dark comedy and then it all was turning into some decent drama and twisted version of happy end. Yes, it was a bit crazy sometimes, but it was fun to watch and that's for what people loved this show. In Delicate it's all gone - there was only an attempt in psychological thriller, but due to criminally boring characters and numerous plotholes, it just failed completely.
I honestly didn't even know this show was still going. It's had 12 seasons? Stopped being good after 2.
-AHS became a growing hit from S1 to S3
-AHS peaked at S4 to S5
-AHS's breaking point was when apocalypse aired
-AHS started to decline afterwards
Now AHS is a shadow of its former glory for the golden era of AHS ended a long time ago and it is past time for Ryan Murphy to let AHS be put to rest.

The last episode does not deserve the 3.6 rating. Red Tide left things so unfinished with many plot holes and rushed through conflicts and left you with an annoying villain (Alma) and don’t even get me started on Death Valley. The ending of Delicate made sense. In episode 7, the witches circle Adeline, Ivy says "You have no power other than what she gives you" then Sonia says "and takes away". So Adeline had power, it got taken away by Siobhan once she left the cult, which explains why the chant failed for her at the restaurant, because she didn't have power. Siobhan later gives Anna power when she accepts the baby and is given the green heels. Anna is able to cast the chant/ ritual at Siobhan with the power Siobhan gave her. The witches are bloodbound, and died together except Anna because she had Hestia by her side. The writing isn’t the issue, it’s the fan base that can’t pay attention to anything.

Siobhan granted her power when she joined the cult. HOW IS THAT REACHING? People with brains like you shouldn’t be allowed to review shows like this. This isn’t a deep analysis ..

I find myself leaning more towards the seasons with Emma in it, I enjoyed this season compared to Double feature and NYC(a real horror story) I do feel like the biggest missing piece was Sibbon’s back story!! Us seeing her betrayed by a man and seeking revenge prompting her to create a world full of Delicates would have made this even better for me! Still a cute season to rewatch. Also, I feel like they wrote Ana like that so we as an audience don’t just think of Chanel or Maddison Montgomery

I think that since the split, a lot of actors had time to distance themselves from their characters. A lot of the acting in the second half fell flat on it's face. I think this is especially true for Cara who's most important scenes were in the second half. The fact they did the split as a whole was stupid. I understand having to shut down filming but releasing the entire season in two different parts was never going to go over well and they should have known that too. I don't know of any other programs choosing this split route because of the strike. A lot of this season felt like a tubi show.

I was a loyal watcher of AHS, through seasons good and bad. The minute they cast Kim Kardashian I was out. I will not help perpetuate her fame (or of anyone else in her family). If they cast her in other upcoming seasons I’m also out.
I fully understand I’m just one person and Ryan Murphy et al don’t care what I think and my “boycott” won’t affect the show’s longevity in any way, but I feel better for having drawn a line and stuck to it.

I didn't watch the last two seasons. Do they still do the tie-ins with previous seasons or has the been dropped?
I also think Manny Coto passing effected the season a lot. Hes been part of the show sincethw begining and alot of the eps he directs are the best episodes.

That ending of the last episode tho... I had to research it because it looked like the end of an episode, not a season finale, if they took the time and effort to make the episode, why not make something more complete and at least an hour long?

I remember when it was theorized that it was supposed to be only 9 seasons to signify the 9 circles of hell. The Roanoke season & the cult one with the politics weren’t my favorite, but still had some suspense and gore. Apocalypse was great tying in a lot of the other seasons & should’ve ended after that. Never got into the season after that with Richard Ramirez it seemed like an out of place season after Apocalypse. Season after that had good stories, but not earlier AHS season caliber. The NYC one was okay. This season could’ve used more episodes and more clarifications like Siobhan’s origin, what made her drawn to Dex’s Dad, more explanation of Preecher… Lackluster season… Emma Roberts is amazing on all her AHS seasons & I thought Kim did a pretty good job with her role because it was kind of a main one. I think Ryan Murphy. reds to focus on like on project at a time… It seems like when he’s working on multiples, the older / longer series kind of go on the back burner… which has kind of been AHS the last few years.
I really liked Nicolette character she actually did really well tbh..
Also why have we had like 5 remakes of Rosemary’s baby? That resurgence happened like 5-10 years ago. It’s passé, but the show is so beautiful. I almost don’t care about the plot, and it’s beautifully satirical if you let it be. But I miss it being blood curdling and sexy. I really do.

It was good outside of the finale. It nailed psychological horror. People are so fickle.
I'm fed up of things being split into 2 parts for marketing/monetary reasons. Some films fully earn and utilise it, but nobody asked for this to be 2 parts. Heck from the sounds of it people didn't even want 1 part lol.
Pulled me in at the start, nice build up, then flat finish 😒 almost seems as if someone else took over after the mid season break and they just wanted to end it. Kim as a bad guy actually started to grow on me tho
Freakshow is when AMHS started its decline. When Ryan said the script was stolen the show has not been the same. That was YEARS ago.
Our problem was Kim Kardashian and the Nicolette had a baby, please stop, and the time lapse, my family just said no more, so we didn’t even bother.

I mean for factors writers strike. Ryan Murphy FORCED his writers to stay on well into the strike (he didn’t want to stop bc it would post-pone the show into another year) he blamed it on Kim K having a busy schedule. This is the outcome when everyone says yes to you in Hollywood it makes you entitled and think you can do that to your writers lol
Can you force employees to work through a strike?? That defeats the purpose of a strike ...
@@ravengyal Because AHS already had a finished script going into the strike, the show's continued production would not have broken any strike rules, provided no one performed WGA writers' usual production-related tasks like tweaking story beats or cutting scripts for time. Which explains WHY it literally felt like a first draft for the season there were no edits being made while filming
@@GuyNamedRy ok, but people still have free will. They could've chosen to skip out and maintain job security. No they wouldn't have received a paycheck, but that was a personal choice. No one FORCED them to do anything. They chose to keep working through a questionable environment. Can't turn back and blame it on the boss when you had a choice.
@@ravengyal when you're on a crew and you do something that no one else is doing around you word spreads and you can easily become blacklisted in Hollywood and people will tell others not to hire you.
