I trained with the ROK army in the "land of the morning calm" during 1970; they were tough as nails! Currently and conventionally, south Korean armed forces will crush NK forces!! They have superior weapons, training, leadership, equipment, tech and spirit!! Stay strong my South Korea!!!
In 1971 I was assigned to a ROK infantry platoon. I spoke no Korean, and only had 1 NCO with just a little English. My platoon was used as a search and rescue. We were to be together for 3 months. Their grasp of Air Cav tactics was exceptional. I was given a week to teach them how to rappel from a chopper. That took 2 days, and several 300 foot jumps. Then it was the Australian rappel, going face first. The division was the White Horse div. We did many insertions some with contact. No one was lost. I liked their tactics too, no fooling around, shoot first, no questions. Instead of staying with my unit, I moved in with my platoon. Things I learned, don't eat the red stuff in the little dish, It's not the same, same American ketchupy. Don't play basketball with them, they use Karate on defense. It was a fabulous time for me, and I have the highest respect for the ROK.

I spent nearly 7 years at Kunsan Air Base in the 90's. For five of those years I had my car with me. My wife and I went somewhere most weekends even if it was just to Osan Air Base to shop. I miss Korea every day.

When I was stationed in ROK in the early 90. These guys were serious, They talked about the Korean war like it was a trap. They was never going to let Pusan happen again.
Keeping over 3 million reserves has its own strategic advantage. It allows South Korea to mobilize a large number of battle-ready troops with minimum training in the quickest time. The joke in South Korea is that you just go to a shopping mall and shout out that you need a tank commander, you already found 10 guys stepping in then formed an entire battalion in 10 minutes.
The number of the reserved forces in Korea is about 2,750,000(2018 year). The power of the reserved forces is extraordinary and amazing because they have periodically practiced their Army Main Specialty and played war game in military camp.
No surprise, Korea was a major contributor to the ground forces during Vietnam and one of the very last to leave. Highly disciplined take no shit soldiers who were always ready to fight "Charlie". Thanks for the update, nicely done.

Russia is Korea's friend... In the case of the s-400 missile, it was jointly developed by Korea and Russia. The Korean weapon system is the United States, but the missile system is based in Russia.

Now we have more than 1800 3rd generation MBTs, 2100 155mm SPHs, 360 230mm MLRS, 900 105mm SPHs with 3.2 million shells, more than 2000 short and long range ballistic and cruise missiles with 4 ton warhead or up to 3000 kilometers range. That is just current weapon list. We are developing much more powerful weapons like aircraft carriers or nuclear powered submarines to defend against from NK, China and Japan
I cannot express the amount of gratitude that goes out to all the soldiers / nations that fought to save South Korea from annihilation by communism - my father is still able to name these nations by memory. 0:44 The 20th division which was the strongest mechanized infantry division in korea(in eastern asia also) for several decades had been disbanded in 2019 decembcer 1st, due to defence reformation project because of lack of Korean birth rate. The disbanded armored vehicles and units were sent to 11th mech division. The division armed with K2s, K21s, K9s, The ROK Army supplied only the most powerful and brand new weapons to them, it was the key combat element for 7th mobile corps with Capital & 8th mech divisons to retake northren territory. Now the 11th mech is replaced the 20th and joined the 7th corps

Keeping over 3 million reserves has its own strategic advantage. It allows South Korea to mobilize a large number of battle-ready troops with minimum training in the quickest time. The joke in South Korea is that you just go to a shopping mall and shout out that you need a tank commander, you already found 10 guys stepping in then formed an entire battalion in 10 minutes.
The number of the reserved forces in Korea is about 2,750,000(2018 year). The power of the reserved forces is extraordinary and amazing because they have periodically practiced their Army Main Specialty and played war game in military camp.
No surprise, Korea was a major contributor to the ground forces during Vietnam and one of the very last to leave. Highly disciplined take no shit soldiers who were always ready to fight "Charlie". Thanks for the update, nicely done.

There are 2.75 million reservists in South Korea who are more skilled than active duty soldiers.
More than 6,000,000 Korean know how to shoot in exact way.
Also more than 100,000 Korean can drive armored vehicle.
We are in reservist only 8years after finished our military service. So we can figure out how many Korean know how to use the rifle.

All those grandpas in their 70s and 80s have served active duty as well, and a lot of them have quite a bit of fight left in them. So when SHTF, you have 20+ million people who have served active duty and who will pick up a gun, some 'nades, and fight. Imagine if Arab jihadists had that many trained men. Yeap, that's horror right there. Coupled with 70% mountainous terrain, nobody can steamroll through Korea with anything less than nukes and WMDs. If the standing army gets destroyed, it'll be urban and mountain guerrilla warfare until invaders type GG and go home.

After 1st year out of boot camp, I forgot how to shoot. Took me few minutes to figure it out.

We didn't have any heavy weapons during the Korean war. Korean soldiers had to have suicide attack with a molotov cocktail to stop NK tanks.
That is why we are obsessed with firepower.
Now we have more than 1800 3rd generation MBTs, 2100 155mm SPHs, 360 230mm MLRS, 900 105mm SPHs with 3.2 million shells, more than 2000 short and long range ballistic and cruise missiles with 4 ton warhead or up to 3000 kilometers range.
That is just current weapon list. We are developing much more powerful weapons like aircraft carriers or nuclear powered submarines to defend against from NK, China and Japan

0:44 The 20th division which was the strongest mechanized infantry division in korea(in eastern asia also) for several decades had been disbanded in 2019 decembcer 1st, due to defence reformation project because of lack of Korean birth rate. The disbanded armored vehicles and units were sent to 11th mech division. The division armed with K2s, K21s, K9s, The ROK Army supplied only the most powerful and brand new weapons to them, it was the key combat element for 7th mobile corps with Capital & 8th mech divisons to retake northren territory. Now the 11th mech is replaced the 20th and joined the 7th corps
