  • The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is either the greatest piece of social legislation in the history of the United States or it is an abomination inflicted on the American public that will ultimately destroy our health system. Insider Stanley Hupfeld dissects that health system and exposes the fallacies and prejudices of both political parties.
Stanley Hupfeld was President and Chief Executive Officer of INTEGRIS Health from July 1995 until 2010. Stan has spoken and been published widely for his expertise in the health care industry. He currently writes a healthcare column for a local business daily, The Journal Record. As the driving force of the nation's first hospital-sponsored charter school, Hupfeld was honored in 2009 when the INTEGRIS Health Board of Directors voted to rename the school The Stanley Hupfeld Academy at Western Village.

As an attorney I took an oath to be ethical and to take unpopular cases. I took a woman's botched hysterectomy case because of that obligation. The tort reformers came after me with a vengeance. It is such a politically entangled situation that the police refused to show up when I called to report an assault on me. Later in my own medical emergency the hospital castrated me. There is no one to tell. I've been politically ruined and cannot even get a job as a tax preparer. All the judges are "conservative" tort reformers. The lecturer here touches on the benefits of tort prosecution but leaves out the most important : It teaches other doctors how not to be negligent and to practice better medicine.

An informed consumer chooses between price, convenience and quality. It is the responsibility of potential patients to learn where to purchase medical services as much as they learn about which car or dress to buy. Insurance should be for an $X limited fund in exchange fora $Y premium, regardless of pre-existing conditions. The value of one's own life has to be decided by each premium payer. The price of services has to be decided between customer/patient and supplier for market forces to apply.

My auto mechanic tells me he has to look at the car before he can give me a quote. I imaging most doctors will feel the same way.

It's a shame that the American model is beginning to spread out in Europe. It's really scary. In Spain we had the best Health Care system, we still do, but powerful health insurance companies are brainwashing profit-hungry politicians to change our Health care system following the American model. The spanish system is fair and affordable for everyone since it all comes from our taxes, and believe me, the quality of the medical attention is excellent. ¡¡Sanidad pública de todos y para todos!!

This smacks with what I thinking about Healthcare in other countries. Lots of economic, and demographic forces are reshaping the world and healthcare will have to change accordingly as well. I believe that European countries will have to drop the free healthcare model and adopt a system similar to the American healthcare system where the consumers pick up a large chunk of the costs. Deep down , I think the Europeans are coming to understand that the good 'ole days of socialized medicine are over with.

we should not let the fed control our money. New money should be added through the infrastructure repair, social services which amounts to their spending the money on businesses stimulating the economy. food stamps is a good thing as we are blessed in helping people as food does,'t rot or stay on the shelves. It is fear which keeps the economy on the brink. We need to print enough money for circulation, if done in the spirit of God, in faith, the value will increase old debt purchased forgiven

1)TO COVER EVERYONE USE SINGLE PAYER. THIS ALLOWS PEOPLE TO TAKE RISK TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR. ALSO ALLOWS THE GOVERNMENT TO PURCHASE DRUGS AT A LOWER RATE LIKE THEY DO IN CANADA, MEXICO, AND THE MILITARY.
2)CREATE AN INDIVIDUAL HEALTH ACCOUNT WHERE PEOPLE CAN STASH UP TO 25,000 A YEAR. THEY CAN USE THAT MONEY TO INVEST AND GROW THEMSELVES.
3)CREATE TAX CUTS UP TO 5,000 FOR PEOPLE TO DO HEALTHY THINGS. LIKE EAT AT A HEALTHY RESTAURANT, PURCHASE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES RATHER THAN PROCESSED FOODS, JOIN A GYM, JOIN YOGA CLASS, DO ACUPUNCTURE ETC. THIS KEEPS PEOPLE HEALTHY AND PEOPLE WITH PREVENTABLE OR CHRONIC DISEASES HEALTHIER.
    JUST SAYING

We are told that giving good health care to everybody will bankrupt the country. THE USA IS THE RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and every country in Western Europe guarantees health care to every citizen and there are a lot more countries that do this. These countries are NOT bankrupt. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT! Use your brains. Who wants you to believe that universal health care would bankrupt the country. The best kind of health care is SINGLE PAYER. It is efficient and makes for a better, healthier, happier country. It may reduce the number of billionaires but who cares about that?

To me healthcare is a right ….. period ….. also people should be more responsible for their own health …. If u are smoking even after a cancer diagnosis …. Don’t expect top notch research to help u ..take some responsibility…. Also eating Macdonald first thing in the morning is not good either …. I work in Healthcare and I know I should not be judgmental….. but I cannot help it ….. after living a good 90yrs ….. it’s beyond my understanding as why people would opt for cancer treatments and really engage in risky activity and then complainant that they are in pain and are unhappy …. I am not against older people with all due respect nothing can replace experience and wisdom …. But common …… everything has to end one day ….. May it peaceful and acceptable ….. don’t be greedy and get attracted by all the options that are available …. At the end you will be disappointed

    What I Want
Since the elected and well paid politicians of both parties, seem incapable of the intelligence to come up with a plan that addresses health care, infrastructure, jobs, taxes, or education, I thought, as a normal and thoughtful Citizen of the USA, I would present my own plan for consideration and modification by interested citizens.
I want a newly built health clinic in each county in the whole USA (including all territories), offering conventional and helpful medicines and treatments, experimental and alternative modes of healing and public health which is responsible for the testing of individual persons (regardless of legal status), testing of food and water and the health of the environment.
All labor and most of materials are to come from local sources. Expertise can come from anywhere.
Finance will come from local sources and backed by the federal government, as it’s #1 priority, above all other spending.
The opening would be attended by the Congressional Representative from that district, the Constitution of the USA shall be read (in full) and “Washington Post March” by John Philip Sousa, shall be played by a local band.
.There is more, but, this is good for a start.
    Sincerely,
    Georgemarc Schevene

Insightful perspective, but why did he mention Pelosi and Palin as adding no depth to anything? Of ALLLLLL the people in politics, he happens to mention 2 women? And when referring to his daughter as consumerism, he mentions the mall? Can we move past gender bias and sexism already? He has some good points, but his bias turned me off! Next.

Affordable Care Act- great for some, but why are we ALL forced to pay for it? There is nothing at all wrong with socialism, but it is most certainly un-American.

We all paid for the un-insured before the reform. Ever heard of Medicaid?
Don't listen to this guy, he even says he's not an insurance expert @ 4:35 ..
But I am ! ! ! Insurance companies make money by taking premium dollars and investing that premium in the stock market...Not by taking in more than they pay out..(like everyone assumes)
We are all in this together no matter what ! ! ! If the market index goes down, insurers loose, if people go bankrupt the economy goes down, and so does the index. The health care reform is Great business at it's best...It only hurts PEOs
2.3 million people Will be effected negatively but its for the greater good...
It's extremely Patriotic what House Dems are doing..

Would be great if only he could edit out his sexist remarks (about his daughter, female politicians, etc. Their are plenty of men using politicians sound bites out there). Given his generation, he is probably just totally unaware, but the remarks are really not necessary, insensitive, and detracts from his message.

We hear what we want to hear. He used his daughter as an example. If he had a son who played video games, he probably would have used his son as an example there but replaced "mall" with "gamestop in the mall". He used Palin and Pelosi because they're two prominent women in politics from polar opposite backgrounds.
You want the guy to change his language for you? Somewhere out there is someone upset that this man wasnt a woman because more women should be speaking about healthcare. This is why we dont tackle the big problems, because we are bickering about the little things that arent really a priority.
