I can highly recommend the Catchpower electric hot water diverter. Set and forget. Excess PV heats water before exporting to the grid. Boosts via off peak automatically during long dull periods.

Good stuff! I was wondering if this was ever in the mix, now you mentioned modbus I can see the potential to historically log our usage with 3rd party integrations like home assistant.

Hi Glenn, I was wondering if this device could work with the problem we have? There has been yet another solar install in our street, which has finally pushed the grid voltage over the network providers safe working limits causing my 5kw Sungrow inverter to clip and drop out regularly on an over voltage scenario. My problem is we have a heatpump hotwater system which only draws around 500w of power. Is there another way of using this excess power that you can suggest? Thanks Gary

Hi Rigley, a d.c. coupled inverter system will continue to charge a battery even when the grid is lost. That may be the solution.

Or an EV charger! Or pool heater / filter! Washing machine

A EV car with a smart charger seems like the next logical step for us. Thanks

    Hi Glen,
    Thanks for the review.
I'm looking at getting a 3-phase PV diverter, but unfortunately Catch Power hasn't released it yet. Would the Relay work just as effectively as a 3-phase PV diverter? Certainly cheaper.
I'm based in Adelaide and seems my local suppliers only carry this brand.

At the Smart Energy Expo in Sydney recently CatchPower said they were developing a three phase uint. Watch this space.

@@SmartEnergyLab I have 3-phase power at home and a 10KW PV solar system.
I believe my Rinnai hot water storage system in on one phase. With the Catch Relay, will it put all surplus solar (including the other two phases) into heating water? Or will it only use the incoming solar energy on the hot water unit phase?
      Thank a lot :)

Will this work with 60hz in Canada?
