    That’s awesome! My dad would go nuts over this.
    My dad bought the first Esprit in America before the release of the movie. He almost didn’t go through with it because part of the conditions of the sale was that it was going to be used for the premiere of the movie across the midwest. He still owns it.

    I am more than familiar, in fact I helped build it. Our company was Perry Oceanographic/Perry Submarine Builders (we're in the credits) One of the most challenging (and fun) jobs we ever did..

    I almost ALMOST bought a Lotus Esprit back in 2007 as my first project car at about age 20-21.
    Bought a 1977 Datsun 280z instead. Never looked back

    I recall that the production had many problems with the sub. Firstly, it was a wet sub, a good thing, but the driver couldn't see out of it, a bad thing. The other, and I guess the reason you added the clear pieces to the rudders is that cars need to stick to the ground - their shape is meant to create down force - so the real production sub did exactly as you described...it went down. They had to make the front planes hard to rise and the rear hard to dive to get it to go straight. Looking cool, tho!

    You could do banking if you linked each servo to diagonally opposite fins. The left servo is attached to the left front fin and the RIGHT rear fin. The right servo is attached to the right front fin and the LEFT rear fin.
    You need two transverse rods at the rear to switch up which servo is linked to which rear fin.
    So, if you command to pitch down, both servos pull the front fins down and push the rear fins up. Pitch control still works the same.
    But if you command to bank left, the left servo pulls the left front fin down and pushes the rear RIGHT fin up. The right servo does the opposite - it pushes the right front fin up, and pulls the rear LEFT fin down. The result? Both left fins go down; both right fins go up.
    If this control scheme works as I think, you could pull off some really cool sharp banks, while retaining the strong pitch authority.

      Yes, I understood the need, but I am not going to completely rework all of the linkages just to get banking. Perhaps if I do another one I can look into it. Thanks for the comment!

    Very nice sub that looks like a car!! Am I missing something here or is this a proto-type ? In the movie James Bond drives his vehicle from land into the water !So, will you add tires and wheels also ? I would seriously consider ordering this vehicle if it were complete. Absolutely Bad-Ass !!!

    I would separate the planes so you could use them for dive or roll. Just need a few more servos. You could do amazing things with this model with that setup.

    I said in the last video it would be a rocket.. and is why i made my build with a 10:1 gear reduction for nice slowwww cruise, when i ever get it in the water lol. Excellent job bob. Are you running a leveler on your dive planes ??? Have you tried any of the "penetrator" seals from blue robotics?? I just bought some in some different sizes. They are very affordable, easy install and are water "tight" rated (with the proper wire) to 3100 feet lol....

    Absolutely fabulous! Great model and video. I love the new intro logo graphic. The esprit looks like a lot of fun with some unique characteristics. Is it possible for it to run on the surface at all? I'm guessing it starts to dive as soon as you start moving?

    It *is* nice looking and you are obviously very skilled, but if I may give some constructive feedback: 1) It would of course be a lot harder, maybe impossible, to make but if the Lotus is not actually amphibious i.e. capable of driving and diving, with collapsing wheels and all, I reckon that's going to be a significant enough let down for most fans of the movie that maybe building a scale model of an actual submarine would have been a more logical choice? 2) Almost all RC builders completely overlook scaling * speed * in relation to size i.e. if it's darting around and making really twitchy movements, it just looks like a toy rather than giving a realistic impression of the real thing. Some very slow-flying RC airplanes get this aspect right and are quite convincing, for example, but not many.

    • @RCSubGuy
      @RCSubGuy  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So... you're saying that because it doesn't transform from car to submarine, it's not worth building. Alrighty then...
      Your comments regarding the scale speed is well taken and fully understood. In this case, "scale speed" is stupid thing to strive for. The movie submarine was hindered by the abysmal performance of the movie prop. You think James Bond is going to flee the bad guys as the "real" speed of a fast walk? Heck no... Q would have this thing hopped up and plowing through the water like a fighter jet. In this case, "scale" speed is what it should have been, not what it was...

    Hi Bob, great project, great "boat"!
    I'm currently thinking about building it as a winter project, so I still have a few questions.
    The engines run wet, right?
    Do the STL files also contain a parts list with the components still required (motor, ESC, dry box, linkages, etc.)?
    Is there anything against printing the model with an FDM printer (PLA, ASA, ABS)?
    Regards, Markus

    • @RCSubGuy
      @RCSubGuy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Motors run wet, but you can certainly mount them in a waterproof container if you want. STL file package includes only STL files. My build is simply my build. It's not a guide. It's not a package. It's not a kit. It's just my take on how to make this a practical model.
      There is no reason you can't print the model on an FDM printer. It's perfectly fine to do so.

    • @Vrumfondel42
      @Vrumfondel42 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RCSubGuy thanks for the information. I don’t mind running the motors wet, just have no experience with this topic (electric rc gliders usually do not operate under water ;) . So good chances I’ll give it a try this winter. Maybe then there is an updated version available with more magnet mounts?

      Yes, but keep in mind it's not very feasible to transmit live underwater without a wired tether. You can record and watch later but there usually isn't much to see.

      The transmitter can broadcast at various power settings. I usually operate at 200mW, which is good for about 4ft of depth. The radio can go as high at 1W, so significantly deeper. The biggest factor is water and what's in it (chemicals, etc)
