- The Lost Tunnel of Llandderfel - Wales Disused Railway.
Join us as we take a look at a little known disused railway tunnel East of Bala in Wales. Hidden and out of sight, this was a real nice find hidden in the countryside midway between Bala & Llandderfel.
Llandderfel Tunnel closed ahead of the scheduled closure date of Monday 18 January 1965 because of flooding by the River Dee which breached the line near Llandderfel on 14 December 1964. This section of the line was never re-opened.

Every tunnel and viaduct is a testament to the thousands of Navis whose legacy is always underestimated
Absolutely. Thank you for watching 🙂
Given all the effort and sometimes sacrifice that goes into building a tunnel it breaks my heart to see them disused or neglected. I hope this tunnel gets used again as a thoroughfare, without disturbing the wildlife if possible. Fantastic photography Ant, you really bring it to life.
Love this tunnel, its so colourfull, plus your right it does look like a cave in parts, i loved the entrance way too,😃
Ant, another great watch, so many bricks but so little time "to explore them all." Thanks for your time and work.....
The colours in the tunnel are amazing.
Wonderful vlog of an amazing tunnel unknown to me in my home area around lovely Barmouth. Thank you
New subscriber here. Just wanted to say thanks for your wonderful content. Making my way through your old videos, really impressive drone footage and use of music. Great stuff!

What a cracking little tunnel lost in the countryside, all those different surfaces. Top builders back in the day especially in its location. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hello Ant - greetings from Poland.
Absolutley fantastic. What a geat find. Thanks for making such an interesting video,
Thankyou Michael. Short and sweet this one :)
I am nearly 80 years old. I have known about this railway but never known about this tunnel. A photographers paradise. I agree with others. What a construction effort especially from those labourers. We’re they paid minimum wage??? Not likely!!
Another great find there Ant thanks gor sharing xx
Love these videos and many thanks for posting. Where's the best place to access the track bed to walk to Landderfel tunnel? Your video is the first time I've seen it since a day trip from the Midlands to Barmouth in 1963. Amazing to see inside, both the quality of the build which has lasted so long, and the beautiful colours of the rock formations. Much appreciated.
wow ant ,how man time and mother nature can create such marvels thanks for showing
Glad you enjoyed it Chris
Two great videos today Ant. just what I needed.
Glad you enjoyed them 🙂
Marvellous and interesting little tunnel. There seem to be many such things hidden away in Wales! Great find!
Another travel back in time with this tunnel. Thanks for the video and chat. Cheers mate.
Thanks very much Martin. It was a nice little find
Many thanks Ant, fond memories of camping in that area as a child in the late 1950s. Take care.
Thanks very much for watching Christine
I would love to photograph this tunnel.
Cheers Ant.
Thanks for watching
Another nice railway video Ant thanks very much for your hard work with these videos.
Thanks very much Chris.... Much appreciated
Nice one,thanks lad
Thankyou for watching Simon
Thank you ~ great footage 🤩
Thanks very much Deborah 🙂
What a fantastic place, do love a good tunnel.
It certainly is. Thanks for watching
That's a fascinating little find, I love the contrast between the brickwork and the rock sections. My wife and I went to Ruabon on holiday back in the 90's, if I had been into exploring like I am now I'd have been into that tunnel like a shot!!!!
To be honest we were lucky to find it. There's not much online about it. I just spotted something on an old map we parked and popped down
@@TrekkingExploration Great decision mate, however, I can't help feeling that I've seen this video before, it may be my age though!!!!!
@@seamusmcevoy2011 you have, it's part of one from October 😉
Don't worry I'm working on two brand new ones 😉
@@TrekkingExploration Nice one!!
I mean pannier tank locos ! Stood on the bridge, which still exists at Capel Celyn halt.
Nice…looks longer than 76 yards.
I thought that too inside it :)
Is it accessible normally… cracking little video
Hey Ant, that's really nice backgound music. Can you tell me what it is please? I remember (just) this line in use and watching the saddle tank locos steam by.
Hiya, brilliant video, I'm actually going to be staying in the area soon, how do you access this tunnel?
Nah then, ey up me duck. Can't beat a good tunnel *God I sound like a geek, lol... but seriously, I absolutely love tunnels 👍🙂
Hi Ant, did you no there’s an old railway tunnel in Derbyshire that is now a public road you can drive through. Swainsley Tunnel
I don't think I've heard anything that one I shall give it a Google
@@TrekkingExploration Its above Ashbourne in the middle of nowhere
Nice coverage as normal. Question at 03:43 was that a bat or an owl that flew into view?
There was plenty of bats inside 🙂
Have I seen this video b4 - is this an re-upload??? 🤔🚂🚂🚂
Yes... It's a short section of a long one from last year.
