I love our artists so much! They are ridiculously talented. I will try and do more with them! And in the meantime, if any artists see this and would like to be on the show... Please reach out! :)
@@GoodMorningMagic Seb McKinnon, Wylie Beckert, Sam Burly, Johannes Voss, and Campbell White. Please happen. These are my favorite current artists. Lots of classics artist as well like John Avon as well.
Haha! I am sure he will be happy to read this. But seriously, after chatting with him, my (already high) respect went through the roof. What an amazing and talented person!
To turn drawing into a living, speed is also important. Then you can rest more, take more opportunities. That's why Jesper is a master. Takes years to get the speed and precision right. Any longer time the artist is not efficient; in fact the longer it takes the worse the art might turn out.
Really glad to hear it! I would love to do more like this if it's popular. It helps Jesper was an AMAZING guest too! I could listen to him talk about art for hours! :)
Jesper is a treasure! (token) I would love to see Seb Mckinnon on your channel sometime, if he ever has the time. His art always strikes a chord with me.
Our best cEDH artist player, i first saw him playing with the Playing with Power mtg, it was awesome. More than an exceptional artist, he also is a really good cEDH player and intelligent person. I think Jesper should be invited to help design a commander precon deck as Sheldon did this year. I would love to see Jesper doing more legendary creatures arts (specially some strongs ones)
@@JesperEjsing I would love to see your take on a card jesper. You're a phenomenal player who really understands the game, so your insight would be invaluable in that process
Jesper already seemed like an amazing guy from what we've seen in recent appearances in EDH channels, but this Q&A showed a whole new dimension on this outstanding artist. It was truly inspiring! Please bring us more content exactly like this!
This is my favorite video yet. I seriously love getting to hear from one of the artists. And I sincerely love all the new exploration that was done with cards this set. I know not everyone loved each one. But I'm personally glad to see MTG exploring styles. Its part of what I like about the game.
This was wonderful. And, so inspiring for so many who hope to get a chance to draw a Magic card one day. I hope a semi-regular artists series will blossom from this.
Wow Gavin this video is incredible. Art is such a big part of magic but this video still makes me realize how much I underappreciate it. I would love to see one of these videos for each set!
Wow, maybe my favorite episode you have done. Maybe reach out to Scott M Fischer for your next artist. Watching him paint the new Force of Will on his channel was inspiring . I bet he would make a great guest
Really like this episode, and love the art! The moment I saw the card I wanted to make a deck with it, just because the character looked so damn cool! Cool to hear the story behind it, and really glad you changed your mind in the last minute to find that little detail that was missing. Absolutely love it!
Really enjoyed this. Any insight into the creative process of a magic card is fascinating, would love to see more videos in this style of you get the chance. Loving Jespers art
Jesper, always a treat to see here or on the command zone. He and Seb Mckinnon are my two favourite magic artists. Love how likeable they as people seam to be as well. Thank you guys for all the work you do 💕
This episode is awesome! You are doing such a great job pulling back the curtain to give us an awesome look into the creation of this awesome game! Keep up the great work Gavin!
Kev Walker has so much history with the game, still making artwork and even doing showcase art with different styles, I’d love to hear about some of his process. But I also feel like finding anything about him is difficult, and I like his apparent hidden-ness from spotlights despite being possibly the most prolific MTG artist
Jesper is hands down my favorite artist in Magic. His use of colors is always so gorgeous; it totally makes sense now knowing he started as a comic book colorist.
Mr Jesper, I love your art with all my heart, I'm from México and every single piece that you make, filled me with joy, I tried to save every single card with your art, hope to see more of your fantastic work in magic and in general. Wish you the best from Guanajuato capital.
Thank you so much for this! Jesper is my FAVOURITE artist! I'm looking forward to getting this card so much! Love him, his artwork and his gameplay. An amazing man. Thank you Gavin!

I really liked this "behind the scenes" of the Willowdusk Magic card art. I learned about Jesper Ejsing (and many artists) through the Rhystic Studies channel and it enhanced my love for the game. Amazing to see and hear about wonderfully talented artists like Jesper Ejsing, that are approachable and enjoy playing the game they are illustrating. If I could choose an artist to be on the show, I'd really like to see Seb McKinnon, Raymond Swanland or Karl Kopinski. Many thanks again for this amazing video!

These are great. Both here and when they recently had Seb McKinnon on Weekly MTG. I hope they continue. I'm not at all an artist and it's still fascinating.
What a great episode! I would personally love to see Rebecca Guay on the channel :P But in general more artists would be cool! (Ok, your channel has ALWAYS interesting videos. It's hard to ask more of this or more of that because having more of something might signify having less of something else which is as cool)
Wow didn’t realize Jesper did the art for Lignify! Now it’s serves a double purpose in my Koma deck since he did the artwork for Koma and a 0/4 trades butts with a 3/3 serpent!
Good question! We have a whole creative team who writes the art descriptions. They turn whatever nonsense I write on a Magic card into descriptions to send to the artists. They're pretty amazing!
This was great Gavin! Love hearing artists talk about their work. Already knew Jesper a bit from some youtube videos where he played magic. He is a pretty great guy with an almost perfect name. Would love it if you did more of these. Any artist would be fine but I would really be interested in Seb McKinnon.
I love Jesper Ejsing's style. It is so much more fun than other magic artists and sets him apart. But...he really, really needs to release his Obeka, Brute Chronologist as a playmat please!
I'm never going to pretend to be very knowledgeable about art; as such, I'm usually not very interested in its creation. However, I actually really enjoyed seeing this process, and it makes me that much more excited to play the Witherbloom deck.
Jesper’s work is cool. I’ve noticed his name on quite a few cards I use in my commander decks. It was also cool hearing him speak, as one of my best friends was an exchange student from Aarhus, a Claus Mortensen. I would also love to see more artist interviews... 1. Magali Villaneuve 2. Sam Burley 3. John Avon 4. Adam Paquette 5. Alynna Danner just to name a few.
Gavin, I can’t find JumpStart anywhere without a huge markup $250-$399. Will WOTC print more? If not, when can we expect JumpStart 2? Please print more JumpStart.
When the artist delivers a physical painting, what steps are taken to get a digital version of that image that can be reprinted on all the cards? I presume someone has to photograph it somehow?
If I may ask, why is WotC doing yearly commanders with the spring set? Wouldn't it make more sense to have the yearly commander product with the core set? And have the expansions being paired with 2 commander decks like in Kaldheim?
