I got away from commercial work for that reason I couldn’t stand not getting paid when your invoice was due it drove me mad . If they were honest and said we’re struggling can we pay you next week you can except that but it was the constant lying that did my head in . The best paying job in construction must be the lady who pays the invoices because every company you work for when your invoices are due she’s always on holiday so it’s going to be next week now
That scaffolding on the tower block looks like a work of art, fortunately you have someone on site that knows what they are doing, which is always useful. Sorry that you felt it was your responsibility that you lost that money, to me it seams that your clirwas fully aware what was happening, unfortunately in business this sort of thing happens far too often. Great episode - the intrigue is who ever is taking over the project you have your metal on (a lot of it to come to a 100k bill in a couple of months work) will they do the right thing and keep your scaffold up and sure up the finances. Thumbs up.

I’ve been a scaffolder for 18 year and nearly set up a few times but watching your vlogs is the exact reason why I didn’t and am glad I made that decision however I admire your courage and having the balls for taking the plunge and doing things the right way. I set up a property business instead as a side hustle which is growing at a steady pace now in its 4th year in January so it’s nice to watch these videos from a business owners perspective also. I’d be looking for blood if I’d been bumped £110,000 so fair play for keeping level headed and positive about it and the very best of luck for the future mate

I do domestic electrics, even on small jobs like 1k I want 60 percent up front before starting. Customers who don’t to pay that or ask questions they aren’t the customers I want to work for. As will be shit payers and nightmares. Commercial is greater sums of money but how do you operate with that with payment terms and deposits? That’s why I stay away from commercial now, so many firms I know have been stung for loads
Another question for you pal, how do you stop your lads going to the railway jobs or jobs that pay higher? You got a good team of lads judging by these episodes but there’s so much money flying around London area for scaffolders they can pick and choose.
@ thanks for the Reply! I worked in London for years also, the going rate then was around 20ph, but at crossrail we got 30ph and it was very easy work too, holidays everything. The fact your guys are there and are good grafters is a credit to you it must be a great company to work for! It’s the same in Scotland most the lads when got there ticket go offshore for the money.
Proper dogs game that fair play to you, laboured for a good scaffer when I was younger, hard working bastard he was and I didn't have many options to be frank, quickly figured out that what use is the money you guys earn when you're in a wheelchair at 50 😂 absolutely wrecks your body so you deserve every penny. I imagine Joe will be getting great advice as to when will be a good time to try and employ scaffolders and what percentage of the force to employ.
