I had a 2012 R/T Plus that I drove for 11 years. It had a pistol grip, and thats the one thing I really miss about Roxxy. I watched your Barton install video about an hour ago, trying to decide on whether or not to upgrade my shifter. and our friendly TH-cam algorithms showed me this video. So anyway, this will be my next upgrade to my 2023 R/T Plus.
Definitely the reason I just ordered the Barton and a Speed Dawg shift knob. Thanks again for all the videos. Makes my life way easier...but more broke!
Work Play Drive, definitely! Love my Z Automotive purchase too. Just patiently waiting for my correct aux buttons. I appreciate you messaging me back about that problem too.

Just wanted to say thanks for the videos! I am one of the barton customers that has bought their shifter do to ur vids. I am now waiting on my custom knob from speed dawgs. I have a 2012 yellow jacket so i had to send speed dawgs a pic of the logo i wanted on the knob. Its going to look sick. Also wanted to let u know that my next project is going to be the noweeds. Thanks again and keep the vids coming.
Thanks Joe, I appreciate the kind words! If you have Instagram please tag me when you get your custom knob, I didn't even know they did that. Can't wait to see it.
Yeah i didnt know they did either, i just saw they had the superbee knob which is basically the same car just a charger. So i called them to see if they had the yellow jacket and they said we can make what ever u like just send a pic. So i thought that was awesome. I do not have Instagram lol never got that big into social media. The only thing i have is a facebook but once i get my car everything done to my car i will find away to get u the pics. Thanks again
Bro, helped is an understatement; I watched your video front to back to help me get my Barton in (when I still had my Challenger). Shared it to tons of Mopar pages for people asking the same questions I had back then! Love the look of the new grip though!
I test drove a used SRT 392 that came with a Barton. Coming from a Civic Si, which easily and precisely went into gear, this was like arm wrestling to get into gear. Really does up the 'man factor' of the Challenger, and I look forward to getting one for my Scat Pack!
Good video again my man! I jumped between yours and David's when I installed my pistol grip this last weekend. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Barton pistol grip!
I will be looking into this. Even with the ball shifter, i find myself going with the pistol grip. Great video once again, I always get excited every time you post a new one
Another quality and informative video as usual. Now you're going to make me rethink the pistol grip over a ball when i'm finally able to order my Barton later this year. That looks really sharp in there.
My 2020 came stock with a heavy spring in the shifter that holds/pulls the shifter between 3rd & 4th. Its an awesome improvement from previous generations
Just subscribed to your channel , I got a heads up about your Channel from watching Growl .Ive been toying with getting this same shifter for my R/T and you really helped me out in that department thanks . I’m still sold on the Barton I will be purchasing it soon .
Growl is pretty awesome, I'm glad I got the opportunity to meet Tim a few weeks ago. The Barton is definitely a worth while investment and glad to help!
yea.. you make awesome install videos. I learned more about a challenger than any other car I know from watching your channel. and I don't even have my car yet. I still have 2 more weeks before it's even delivered. lol
Congrats and thank you! I'm not sure what's harder... Waiting for delivery or waiting for the 500 Mile break in period to get access to the good stuff.
Work Play Drive, I think waiting for delivery is the worst. Especially since the dealership is trolling me at the same time. They keep feeding me false information on my delivery time. I finally have a printout of my delivery time now though.
Great video. I watched both the install, and this review back to back. I have a 2019 T/A Skat Pack on order (for the last 9 weeks, 4 days 🙄) and this to may change my mind from a Hurst to a Barton. It looks very well built. My first challenger was a 1970 R/T S/E that I bought used in 1980 in a buddy. I thought the pistol grip was super ugly as the side panels were made of cheap brown plastic, and I thought it looked like shovel handle in my car. I said the first thing I'm doing is replacing that shifter with a Hurst T handle...but before I had a chance to change it, I drove it, then I drag raced it, then I LOVED it and even liked the look of it after a while. This Barton looks much better BTW.
The shifter handle is so tough, me personally I have always loved the ball shift knobs and found the "old school" pistol grip on a stick handles visually unappealing. So much so that I never considered the boot pistol grip that Barton offers until someone asked me to do a comparison. After driving with the ball for over a year then switching to the pistol grip I have to say the Pistol grip is really awesome for driving. The grip feels awesome, solid and very well made, the lower hand position and shorter throws really improves the driving experience. Hope your T/A arrives soon!
@@WorkPlayDrive Your video has convinced me to upgrade. Now will it be ball or pistol? I have been driving a stick shift for 25 years but never a pistol grip. Maybe it's time to try one.
Same here which is why I went with the ball. Once I switched to the Barton Pistol grip o never looked back. The feel for me was so much nicer than the ball.
Have a "T/A" on my white and black Speed Dawgs shift knob. Constantly getting compliments. I also bought one of the new "T" handles from Barton. As much as I love the pistol grip handle, I have arthritis and griping can become painful.
Awesome video again!! And that what was in the box that I picked up from work Saturday morning. I installed it that night at 1 am I was bored and needed something to do 🤣😂🤣😂
I just got my Barton shifter in took about a month & bought a speed dawg shift knob I did get the adjustable fork so I can just change the grip great info !
Considered getting a Barton short throw shifter for my 17 RT, I have tinkered before with my Neon but I don’t feel comfortable with this. Need a spot that’s gonna install this properly.
@@WorkPlayDrive I did some digging on there website I think the guys video he put backwords but I was talking about where the handle connects to the car
It feels really nice, while it’s solid metal the edges a beveled and feel really good even after long drives. I loved the look of the ball but the feel of the pistol grip is so much nicer IMO.
Love the install videos and love Barton pistol grip. Looks vintage in mopar car but definitely very solid modern upgrade. I'm sure you'll like it even more than the ball shifter....
Wanted to get some feedback. I have a 2018 Challenger Scat Pack R/T. Has 11,500 miles on it. I bought it used. I’ve had it pop out of 1st gear when leaving at a signal light. Felt like someone hit me from the back. I engaged the clutch and put the car back in 1st and it felt fine. Has anyone else had this issue?
Work play got a ? Where did you get your front mounted license plate holder. I can’t find the video. I’ve been without sense I bought the car kept the dealers from mounting it three years ago.
I had the front plate mount from dealer and didn’t like it from very beginning. But two weeks ago got custom plates and custom name on them and love the dealer mounts now because the front is angled down and with the custom plates look really nice. Looked terrible with white normal state plates.
I have a 2019 scat and I thought the shifter felt decent. Now I'm sitting in my garage playing with my floppy stick (insert joke here). Love the pistol grip, think it's time to upgrade!
@@WorkPlayDrive what color is the handle on yours exactly? So many options online. Also, silly question but does it get really hot or cold? I like the comfort of the stock leather knob for that reason.
Yes the boot allows a little more noise. Some people have gone as far as adding some insulation to block the sound but for me after I got over the initial noticing the noise it didn’t really bug me.
Has anyone noticed a gravely noise in gears 1-3 when accelerating? I’ve combed through online forums and found a myriad of responses and solutions, but I’d just like to know if it is more common than not to have. With no torque instructions, I just want to know I installed everything correctly. Just installed yesterday.
Work Play Drive Thank you so much for responding. I think that’s where I am now. The sound just seems to blend in with the beautiful cacophony of sound from the exhaust and other mods. I found it alarming at first as I feared I had installed something improperly, but having read through what seems like a million forums, my mind is now at ease.
And btw, your video is definitely THE Reason I got a Barton. Your review was magnificent and the install was spot on and so easy to follow. Absolutely love your videos.
How long did you have to wait for Jersey to issue you a permit for that pistol grip? Lol! Great video! That really ties in the modern with the classic Mopar. All of your videos are extremely helpful and I look forward to the next one!
Very nice looking. But I am old school and have hurst with traditional white ball in 3 of my cars. . I have the barton with speed dawg in my challenger after watching your first video and love it. I think when you look into a challenger windows the Barton arm and ball is so much classier than pistol grip. My only complaint is I wish their arm was a bit more curved instead of so straight.
I felt the same way until I used the pistol grip, it's a totally different shift experience. I agree the flat stick and ball is the most appealing and what one would expect to be in a challenger, but the driving experience from this specific pistol grip your handle is much lower and the throws feel shorter and more solid. I was never a fan of the pistol grip especially the tall one on the end of an exaggerated stick, but this Barton pistol grip looks attractive to me and feels sooo nice.
I understand what you are saying and again I am old school. I do not race any of my cars and actually short throw is irrelevant, I like the experience of shifting. I love Barton for how solid it is. I do like my Hurst shifters for the classic click noise when shifting and the look.
Does the bracketing on the Barton allow you to run the stock shifter? I want to run a Mr. Norms classic Pistol Grip and it has the stock mounting locations.
Hey just curious…what was your thoughts after the swap? I’m actually doing the opposite..I have the pistol grip and kinda miss having the ball….am I crazy I dunno….
Hang on a second, I’m sorry but how do you have those steering wheel options on the ride side of the wheel, with a manual transmission? What is it called? I’ve got a manual and don’t have those, thank you!
I ordered the button panel and installed them. They are not for adaptive cruise. I use the Zautomotive TaZer to map them to specific functions like line lock and lightshow. th-cam.com/video/OUJ1rBT8E3g/w-d-xo.html
Great video. I do have a question about the boot. It looks like it is really high up on the pistol grip. Can it be lower down to where you can see some of the shaft?
if you check out the pistol grip sitting on the seat in the beginning you will see the indent right below the handle, this is where the zip tie for the boot goes, below that are the bolts so on this design there is no shaft. I'm guessing you're looking for the pistol grip with an extended shaft similar to the old style hurst?
Work Play Drive okay I see what you are saying. I don't yet know what I want . All I know is I am so ready to throw the factory shifter in the trash can. Thank you for the reply and I willfully be interested in your review and thoughts.
Did you find any more noticeable road noise using the Barton? Like a vibration. Also I find the centering spring to be really stiff. Does this loosen or where in over time?
The centering spring is stiff to keep the shifter aligned for a proper 3rd gear shift. That was the major problem with the stock shifter it was way too stiff. I kept missing third gear the Barton fixed that. The Barton added a little more road noise
I never had an issue with 1-2 but I can say the shifter improved all shifts by defining the path and eliminating all the slop that caused me to miss shifts.
Just gotta say I myself have the 2017 R/T classic and I love the first setup. It goes better with my car style. My first mod will probably be the shifter. I was listening to you talk and are u a pilot? Your voice reminds me of flying.
I do agree looks the ball for me wins, but driving the pistol grip is better. That's the first time I've been compared with a pilot. :) nope not a pilot, although I have flown a small plane a few times.
Once I went to the pistol grip I never went back. I really loved the look of the flat stick with the orange Speed Dawg ball, but the pistol grip felt amazing.
@@SNeal5966 nope I left the clutch delay as it's good for launches and taking the shock out of the drivetrain. I started investigating adjustable clutch delays, where you can tune the delay and it only has a delay in 1st gear, but I changed cars before I started testing.
Dumb question how did you get that awesome camera angle ... What type of mount are you using because it seems to be looking right over your shoulder ...
Nice video. I like the look but it looks like your were running into the fear that I was worried about, in the post credits video. When using a pistol grip you lose your clearance over the cup holder. I really hate the dodge put those there. In any case how does it feel compared to the ball?
Love the feel of the Pistol grip over the Ball, the lower grip really makes it feel more engaging. Sadly I love the look of my flat stick and ball a little more. Both are beautiful, but the ball is much more noticeable. I have a spill free coffee mug for the door pocket ;) and other than a small cup like a dunkin' Medium you really loose the use of the right side cup holder with the new lower grip point.
Yeah, I gave up using the console cup holders and put bottled drinks in the door cup holder. I put my phone in the console cup holder. ;) So are you switching back to the ball?
Great review! Im in the process of ordering a pistol grip shifter and I am stuck on what colors to go with. Is yours gun metal grey with a black insert?
I loved the pistol grip, shorter tighter shifts, felt very comfortable in the hand and a more engaging driving experience. For me I loved the look of the ball, but I never went back because the pistol grip was a much better feel.
My only complaint about the Barton is it's peculiar odor...not sure if it's the grease they use or the rubber bushings but it's something that was definitely noticeable for me. I'm not sure if it dissipated with time or if I've just gotten used to it, but I don't notice it any longer. Hands down the best shifter I've ever used though & haven't missed a 2-3 shift yet. With a stock shifter I had a couple embarrassing 2-5 shifts. Thanks for another great video & it'll be interesting to see what you think about the pistol grip.
I'm a week in and I really like it a lot. I never had an order issue with mine and I'm very anal about smells in my car. I wonder if you maybe had some fresh new rubber boots that weren't out gassed...
That could be. Ever think about getting the old school pistol grip shifter from Hurst that fits the oem late model Challenger? I'm thinking about getting the carbon fiber look one.
Thanks for making this video. I have the same problem and keeps getting stuck from 1st to 2nd gear and it drives me nuts. Hopefully this will solve my issue. I was thinking is this is a factory defect since a lot of people are having the same issue. Btw. I Like your phone mount. where did you get it? Thanks again!
The first to 2nd issue is due to Skip Shift, (when shifting from 1st to second between 19 - 21 MPH at low throttle) 2nd gear is locked out and you are forced into 4th. you can get rid of this with a skip shift eliminator. th-cam.com/video/ZX2zCLVBXPY/w-d-xo.html The mobile phone mount is a Proclip, I have a few videos on these awesome mounts. th-cam.com/video/b-ezTSJP2eg/w-d-xo.html
Hey Mick quick question about the original Barton... Did you hear any new noise after installing it? I'm hearing some sort of gear noise with mine. I'm just wondering if the stock shifter with the insulation that it came with had a better sound barrier. Oh nice video by the way I was looking at that pistol grip but decided not to because I was too afraid of people messing up my tranny because they can't see where the gears are lol. P.s. still waiting on that front camera video😂 I'm going to put mine on finally after a year of having it when I get my front splitting. Thanks again
Yes I heard some additional noise after installing the Barton vs the stock shifter. That front cam is prolly not going in anytime soon 😂 too many other things going on
I hear gear noise as well & it's usually only in 1st gear. I think that it comes from the Barton having more tension & stiffness on the shift forks for a firmer shift throw. That's just a guess though.
Great video However, nobody discusses cons of short throw shifters I just returned my Barton Unbelievable noisy Sounds like you driving a dump truck It will amplify all noise from transmission/clutch and exost If its your daily driver think about it
I've had mine for a couple of years now - it's never been noisy per se, but it did get quieter and smoother later on. The OEM garbage I had prior to Barton made a knocking sound every time I shifted gears. I drive my Chally daily, and let me tell ya - getting the Barton Shifter has been one of the best decisions I've made. It also goes well with a Raceseng shift knob.
Getting rid of it is something I still regret. I don’t miss the hellcat, I miss this 392. It’s so sad to see she’s been destroyed 😢. I found the car totaled on a Ukraine auction site instagram.com/p/Ca7SZ6trGMh/
@@WorkPlayDrive Dang, that does sucks to see it that way, that was an awesome car, you did a great job with it! Yep, I've had two scat packs, one was a 392 Shaker with a manual transmission and I really liked that car. @@WorkPlayDrive I kept looking though the links and found it; thanks 😎
So how did you get the orange on the Barton shaft? I NEED IT
It was an option they offered back when I purchased it.
How long did you have to wait for Jersey to issue you a permit for that pistol grip? Lol! Great video! That really ties in the modern with the classic Mopar. All of your videos are extremely helpful and I look forward to the next one!
Thank you and c'mon everyone knows you can just go to an out of state gun show right? lol th-cam.com/video/UEihkjKNhN8/w-d-xo.html
@@WorkPlayDrive I agree 100% I have both the flat stick and pistol grip. The pistol grip is amazing and shifts much better in my opinion.
Never have problems with shifting mine
Does the bracketing on the Barton allow you to run the stock shifter? I want to run a Mr. Norms classic Pistol Grip and it has the stock mounting locations.
You will need to but the version of the Barton that has the stock mount.
Hey just curious…what was your thoughts after the swap? I’m actually doing the opposite..I have the pistol grip and kinda miss having the ball….am I crazy I dunno….
I liked them both, IMO the ball looked best, but the pistol grip felt so much better when driving.

I like this pistol grip!
How’s the 1-2 shift? Just got my scat pack and that shift kills me pretty much every race
Both look cool, I think the orange striped ball is a tad cooler...overall which one do you think is more comfortable in the hand?
Ohh one more question....did you happen to also remove the CDV from the clutch hydraulic line? A lot of people do that along with the barton....
@@WorkPlayDrive Interesting....who manufactures that device? And how does it know the difference between 1st gear and the rest of the gears?
Dumb question how did you get that awesome camera angle ... What type of mount are you using because it seems to be looking right over your shoulder ...
Go pro suction cup mount to the sunroof.
Work Play Drive ok cool thx
Great video ! Pistol just looks so cool
Yeah I know I love the orange 🍊 but the pistol grip one is just much nicer to drive.
How you like the pistol shifter better then ball?
Pistol grip way better
Don't understand why you spend that much money for car and have shity shifter and clutch
I put my phone in the console cup holder. ;)
So are you switching back to the ball?
nope, as much as I love the look of the ball, driving with the pistol grip is really enjoyable so it's staying.
Good install!
🎈
Great review! Im in the process of ordering a pistol grip shifter and I am stuck on what colors to go with. Is yours gun metal grey with a black insert?
Mine is black with black insert.
NO VIDEO ON THE PISTOL GRIP? IM DEBATING BETWEEN THE FLAT STICK OR THE PISTOL GRIP. I ALREADY HAVE THE BARTON WITH THE FACTORY KNOB. THANKS
I loved the pistol grip, shorter tighter shifts, felt very comfortable in the hand and a more engaging driving experience. For me I loved the look of the ball, but I never went back because the pistol grip was a much better feel.
What is the mm thread on the speed dawg to screw it on the Barton?
12mm x 1.25 Speed Dawg has the full chart here www.speeddawg.com/thread-sizes/
Sam salek?
No like - do you still have that ...?
Excelente vídeo like always!!
Keep it going.
Great video. It looks phenomenal. I have never used a pistol grip.
Dude ive been wanting to put a Barton in my SRT since you made the first video, as i agree the stock shifter just feels...cheap
The floppy stick ;)
Great video
Thank you
Thanks for making this video. I have the same problem and keeps getting stuck from 1st to 2nd gear and it drives me nuts. Hopefully this will solve my issue. I was thinking is this is a factory defect since a lot of people are having the same issue. Btw. I Like your phone mount. where did you get it? Thanks again!
The first to 2nd issue is due to Skip Shift, (when shifting from 1st to second between 19 - 21 MPH at low throttle) 2nd gear is locked out and you are forced into 4th. you can get rid of this with a skip shift eliminator. th-cam.com/video/ZX2zCLVBXPY/w-d-xo.html
The mobile phone mount is a Proclip, I have a few videos on these awesome mounts. th-cam.com/video/b-ezTSJP2eg/w-d-xo.html
Ah WAM2. Good times. Too bad you’re not coming to WAM3
I didn't say I wasn't... If I can swing it I will, but it will be a long 5,056 mile track for me ;)
Hey Mick quick question about the original Barton...
That front cam is prolly not going in anytime soon 😂 too many other things going on
Work Play Drive thanks bud
I hear gear noise as well & it's usually only in 1st gear. I think that it comes from the Barton having more tension & stiffness on the shift forks for a firmer shift throw. That's just a guess though.
Michael Marks yah definitely in the lower gears or lower rpms. Sounds like the flywheel spinning. As long as it's not a grinding sound I'm good. 😊
Great video
However, nobody discusses cons of short throw shifters
I just returned my Barton
Unbelievable noisy
Sounds like you driving a dump truck
It will amplify all noise from transmission/clutch and exost
If its your daily driver think about it
I've had mine for a couple of years now - it's never been noisy per se, but it did get quieter and smoother later on. The OEM garbage I had prior to Barton made a knocking sound every time I shifted gears. I drive my Chally daily, and let me tell ya - getting the Barton Shifter has been one of the best decisions I've made. It also goes well with a Raceseng shift knob.
That interior looks brand new. OCD? lol!
You should see the interior on my 21 year old trans am. The only thing missing is the new car smell 🧼
This should come as an option from the factory. People would easily pay the difference.
I absolutely agree 💪
@@WorkPlayDrive
Do you miss your manual 392 Scat? You definitely had that thing looking and sounding like a real classic musclecar !😁👍
Getting rid of it is something I still regret. I don’t miss the hellcat, I miss this 392.
It’s so sad to see she’s been destroyed 😢. I found the car totaled on a Ukraine auction site instagram.com/p/Ca7SZ6trGMh/
@@WorkPlayDrive
Dang, that does sucks to see it that way, that was an awesome car, you did a great job with it! Yep, I've had two scat packs, one was a 392 Shaker with a manual transmission and I really liked that car. The Scat Pack was just as much fun, even probably more fun to drive then my current 2015 Hellcat with a manual trans. 👍
I’m happy to be back in a manual again and the t-tops make it a lot more fun.
Watched install video installed mine tonight absolutely night and day. Love my car but dodge should be embarrassed sending a car like this out with the slop of a geo metro. Indigo scat pack wide body.
Awesome color choice on your scat! I totally agree once you go Barton you never go back.
Great looking product but, for me the "pistol grip" is not for me ... like having the ball type of shifter ... It just feels more natural... in my hands ...
Thanks the Cops have been staring at me lately ?
With this setup it looks too easy to spill your beer while shifting lol jk jk
lol
I want one, but I can't justify $200.
392Muscle it'll make it more fun to drive.
Scat Pack not $200 better. I could see maybe $100 for it though.
Knob n shifter jokes all over the place sorry. Good video
Barton pistol grip only here i saved the balls for the streets lol...scat couldnt be happier with the setup ...
