@@anngo4140 that one has me super nervous but equally anticipating. The 2018 PS4 one is my all time favorite video game (Ragnarok too by that extension lol)
Your side quest criticism if fair, but that is exactly how the games play out. You have your main quest objective as the player character, which is usually a Vault Dweller so think of Lucy as the stand in character as the player, and as soon as you think you are getting closer to your quest objective, so many other things happen that pull your character in other directions. But that is kind of the point of the games. The more your character does the more their reputation spreads throughout the wasteland as well, so the show was actually very true to the games with the side quest feel.
Side quests are an integral part of a fallout game. Rarely is a fallout game ever linear in its objective. That's why fallout fans are going to love this series.
I've wanted an adaptation of fallout ever since I played New Vegas. One of the reason I love this franchise is the fact that it's set centuries after the world ended, I think that really sets it apart from other post-apocalyptic settings.
I totally agree with the negatives, but I also thought that the ending was a little generic since it's something we've seen many times before. But the thing that I liked the most about this show is that it sets the tone perfectly with the comedy, the gore and the production design. It's clearly made by people that love the source material.
I personally disagree with the side quest argument since that’s how the games are. You have the main story then go on side quests then end the game with finishing that main story. I feel like that was a good way to adapt a video game into a show. I agree with everything else you said and season 2 can’t come sooner!!
To me, the way that they build the first season is quite like how the games use quests to advance the story, including a series of moral choices that affects the outcomes and the unavoidable plot armors. About the side quests, that's how the Fallout game do. I believe they sum that up in a quote by Cooper in episode 4: "rule number one of the wasteland is you always get sidetracked by some bullshit” Disagree about Maximus. His character progression is slow but steady. Here is my breakdown of him: 1. His one of the survival of the nuclear bombing of Shady Sand as a young child. Thus his psyche was scarred really early; 2. He was rescued by a Brotherhood of Steel's knight which inevitably admired as a cult of heroes; 3. He is emotionally and intelligence stunted (that long training to be squire but don't know what a circuit look like) either due to genetics or prolonged exposure to nuclear radiation prior being rescued by BOS; 4. His disillusionment with the same Brotherhood of Steel chapter that saved him as time passed on because that chapter have morphed into something far from his original idealized version of it. We can see what kind of Knights that this chapter of the Brotherhood had by the example of Knight Titus. Even its elder acknowledged this; 5. He is quite brave/stubborn to what he want to do. He want to be knight and would let a "fake" knight like Titus die and replace him to achieve his dream of an idealized Knight of the Brotherhood; 6. He knew of betrayal as Thaddeus reverted after Maximus shown his ruse about being Knight Titus. He just want to feel he belongs somewhere like a confused kid with a grown up body; 7. He only knew real kindness and trustworthiness when traveling with Lucy. Lucy confirmation of him being a good person and reacted quite much better than Thaddeus did when he told her the truth about faking to be Knight Titus gave him hope and love that he can look forward to (in Season 2); 8. His face when he find himself got caught in another lie, not of his own making this time, was priceless to me at the end of season 1. All in all Maximus is quite a complicated person that had to face wasteland challenges, colleague challengers, relationship challenges, etc. which all requires a lot of EQ, with an inherent mental disability that keeps him mostly at a child's level. So even if his progression is slower than Lucy and Cooper, I find his growth adequate because he had to grow from a very low EQ base.
I believe the flow of the main plot is intentional, as the games flow similarly. The main quest is simply a catalyst for the character work, and the adventure. The Ghoul even has a line poking fun at this when he says “The golden rule of the wasteland, thou shalt get sidetracked by bullsh*t every god*mn time.” 😂
The show getting a little unfocused in the middle with side quests really does make it more like the game since it's an open world where it's really easy to wonder off the main quest and explore side quests
Absolutely! Not sure thisnwas a conscious thing as there needs to be something to build up...but the best thing is...this show did such a good job that if anyone WANTS to go explore more of this world.. the games exist to do just that, Creatures, factions, animal companions, lore, mysterious settings and staged scenes that have unsettling revelations. its all there. Can't get over how well this show captured all of that for fans of the franchise AND been a hit with new eyes too!
I finally finished the show tonight, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the adaptation! I have played a couple of the games, and that sense of discovery you mentioned, is very integral to the games for me. The sense of curiosity about the world, and the wacky characters you find are all part of what makes it great to me. I can’t wait for season 2 to drop!
I’ve been a fallout fan for several years and this show is very faithful to the source material with so many little references that immerse you. On top of that that, the story is great and the characters are likeable
I really enjoyed this show, my biggest gripe about adaptations for video games is that the creators never give the game’s source material its proper respect. But Fallout legit takes what’s in the game, and puts it on the screen. The big reveals at the final episodes had my head spinning hardcore. I am impatiently awaiting season 2. Hopefully we get to see Super Mutants, more robots, and Deathclaws.
I would highly recommend you try out the games if you enjoy a lot of the concepts introduced to you in the show, it really is an entirely different experience.

Hey Sean. Loved your review. I felt the need to comment seeing I probably have 200 hours (no exaggeration) on Fallout games over the years. You made me realize why it felt sooo much like the game to me. It was your "bad". In the game Fallout the side quests are so cool you can completely loose track of your main objective for hours and hours. I don't know if they meant to do that but they did. Lastly my man I have to disagree with you about it shouldn't have been released all at once. I'm thinking that those 3-4 episodes of not focusing on main plotline wouldn't have been a couple of hour slight annoyance but it would have been a full month real time and they might have lost some people. Any man, love your channel. Keep it up. Oh, I love that and Cody are friends. My little brother has Downs Syndrome and loves horror so he's addicted to Cody's channel. Thanks again for your content.
Never played the game, knew nothing about it. Absolutely loved it. Such a fun and unique world as you described. I would agree about the Maximus character though, found him to be very annoying. All the weakest parts are primarily found in his storyline. Especially compated to Lucy and the Ghoul who are far more compelling characters. And Walton Goggins is simply incredible, absolutely electric every time he is on screen. Cant wait for more Fallout. The mystery of the vaults reminds me of Lost. A lot of questions about who is behind this and why is it happening. Fallout handled those questions perfectly. As Kyle MacLachlin might say, "A Damn Fine Show!" - Your review was excellent Mr. Chandler.
Very good show. So fun and entertaining. And Ella Purnell that plays Lucy is so pretty. Lucy is a great character. She is selfless and has a huge heart and she just wants to help people. My favourite character for sure. Ella did an amazing job playing her, she’s so talented

It looked really great. I wasnt a fan of Maximus. The Ghoul was AWESOME! Alot better than Halo and Rings of Power.
I love the games and I'm excited to see the show
Only youtubers want weekly episodes. Thanks God it's all at once.
I hate it when a whole season is released like that. Something in between would be fine.
@@RitoRvolto then make breaks for yourself. I absolutely hate anything but the whole season's release. If I need a break between episodes, then I have one, on my terms.
A gift
I diagree with ur opinion on weekly episodes. Why would i want to lose the momentum and hype after 2 episodes. Plus by the time the next episodes come out ur prolly watching something else or less hype
There's decades of counter examples showing that weekly release builds momentum, return to shows, and don't lose hype when they're actually good.
I guess it differently for everyone. Me personally i want to binge it all at once 😊
Nope. See Invincible.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAboutim with you, the week inbetween shows you talk with people, watch videos about theories and possible directions itll go. Thats so much fun and builds crazy hype
good review
Massive Fallout fun. Enjoyed the show much more than I anticipated. Not happy at all with how they messed around with the lore.
