Dj Kenzo hey guys, I’m currently looking at an ‘01 e39 530i sport touring... Bit concerned that there may be a few issues with it - oil is dark so slightly worried there are gasket issues. Also seemed to heat up a lot after only a 10 minute drive (although gauges read as normal). How can a check there are no issues here? Cooling system in general seems like a regular issue.
I have a 2002 530i 5-speed ... few months ago I removed the clutch delay - read destroy - valve and ... just learnt how to drive a m anual again :)) I love my E39 much more right now !
Y’all argument about usable horsepower is exactly why I’m buying an E39 530i Had a 392 challenger w/475 hp Even though I wanted more like most I was finding a hard time to use all that power LEGALLY without paying a fortune at the strip Cars like these need to be celebrated
You dont need nothing more than fully working stock clutch on stock engine with just light flywheel. Many cars with soft turbo are running stock clutch and it works good.
My 325i E36 really misses me. Looking for a straight 6 daily car which could make it on track, I thought about the 530 E39. And your video makes me think I'm not a total moron (about that, at least). Thanks guys !
Why choose such a big heavy car to make into a track car? My own e39 530i (US spec) with the automatic transmission weighs in around 1650kgs (full fluids, without driver). I would think an e46 330i coupe's extra chassis rigidity and lighter weight would help. Also, if you're going to keep the M54B30, make sure you pay attention to the oil pump nut issue, where the nut loosens over time, especially at high RPM. Can cause the engine to seize if it looses oil pressure.
+computiNATEor e39 Master race reporting in...The e39 torsional rigidity is almost double the e46 330 coupe at 24,000 Nm/deg to 12,500 Nm/deg. The e46 sedan however is 18,000Nm/deg which makes more sense. 530i manual (3395lb) weighs about as much as a 330i manual sedan (3285lb) i think due to the 530i aluminum front subframe. The 530i gains in cornering speed what it lacks in weight and hp. With Schrick cams, headers and a proper tune you could put down close to 300hp... An e39 530i sport manual is the epitome of a drivers car. So If you could get a 530 down to 1200kg like they're aiming for and put out 300hp with a some sticky tires, many would say that is a great track car.
One word - FUN. People forget that trackdays are not racing. We have a similar E39, we've even kept the plush leather interior. I get enormous pleasure from overtaking heavily modified and stripped trackday cars in our E39. Many drivers are very surprised to see something that looks like an executive taxi from the 90's overtaking their dedicated tracktoy and it all underlines that point about fun.
Fair enough. I just know that in my own e39 530i (automatic), which I've put 40k miles on in just under 2 years, burns through tires very quickly. I've used up: a half-worn set of run-flats (came on the car), a set of Sumitomo HTR ZIII's, and an older set of Toyo Proxes 4's (used wheels/tires).
we use the stock 16" wheel to get cheaper tyres from the lesser model and a slightly lower profile Maxxis MAZ1 drift tyre . They are £70 ($90?) each and we swap them around to keep the wear even. The smaller wheel lowers the car and the gearing slightly. The three of us run the car on the monthly price of a cheap mobile phone each, (£50 each into a joint account).
has there been any modification to the fan clutch? mine is like it's on all the time, takes away the fun of hearing my engine :( Can anything be done about it?
Great vid, we had the same thought but we found an E39 540 sitting unloved in a storage yard, 157K miles (7 times around the world) it had been robbed off all the M sport bits and standard stuff put on (bumpers wheels etc). £610 bought it, another £690 sorted out a new battery, service, the brakes and tyres track car. Its done a number of UK tracks and Nurburgring. We also thought about stripping the interior but we find it enjoyable overtaking dedicated track machinery while the passenger is on the built-in brick phone. th-cam.com/video/wl1KykM9YKs/w-d-xo.html
I know what you mean! Ours is actually an auto, we did want to change it to a manual but its a lot of work. We just treat it as a 2ton Go-Kart. The auto is better than we thought in sport mode. One problem we had is the gearbox got hot and held on to gears (especially around Brands hatch). The solution was to add in a 13row Mocal oil cooler in sequence to the stock gearbox oil cooler. This added 0.7litres extra transmission fluid and seems to have completely sorted the gearbox temperatures.
As a 540i owner, this makes me want to take out the spare tire and other bits and pieces. The Mrs can stay at home too! Great video.
I guess Im pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released movies online ?
@Jaime Johnny I use FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Adrien Draven Definitely, been using Flixzone for years myself =)
@Adrien Draven Thanks, signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it!!

SUBSCRIBED! Working on my 2001 530i sport right now, my 4th E39. Love these cars and your videos!

How reliable is it?
This BMW E39 is brilliant it's an awesome track/daily very low maintenance
Thinking of buying a 168k mile 530i this week. It's an auto but it's the M sport package and I'll be using it as a daily anyway
BMW aesthetically went bongo with Bangle , e39 was a great car, but decent looking too
Y’all argument about usable horsepower is exactly why I’m buying an E39 530i
Had a 392 challenger w/475 hp
Even though I wanted more like most
I was finding a hard time to use all that power LEGALLY without paying a fortune at the strip

Nice vid and car guys :D
Best bang for your buck is a stage 3 flywheel and a stage 2 clutch almost a full sec of 0-60s

This is video'd around Camberley, how have I not spotted the car lol
Nice car by the way, looking at 530s as a next car

Thanks guys !
330i e46 could be a good choice too
looks 100% same on the Exterior like mine;) what a Beauty
That was a great video. What exhausted system did it have here in the video, I liked it since its not too loud. I would prefer that on my DD.
Thanks!
Do you have any more video on this epic car??
Overtake Good to hear, keep coming with the content it is very interesting.:-)

Ah, gotcha. I wasn't aware that the 16-inch wheels from the lesser models would clear the 530i's bigger brakes.
Just got my 2002 e39 530i with 194k and it runs like a dream. Original clutch on it, and it's great.
i have an 2003 e30 520 M-Sport with 270k and it runs Perfect!
Nice Track car, were did you get the seat consoles/adapters? Or was it DIY?
Thanks for the quick answer
might have been covered already but did you guys remove the viscous fan ?
I love the sound of that exhaust. Did you replace the muffler or deleted the resonator?
I'd say the dampening has been taken out of all the car so you get a better sound inside too
has there been any modification to the fan clutch? mine is like it's on all the time, takes away the fun of hearing my engine :( Can anything be done about it?
what color is it?
m8 what diff did you say have in there? i have the same car ive been looking into options to swap about
13:37 is that Lightwater by chance??
Is it more comfortable than his rival the audi S6?
I have an E39 M5 and an E60 530i.
Am I wrong to be thinking about also getting an E39 530i ?
Lewis72 if you want to garage queen the M5 then its not a bad idea
Wheels?
put a diff from e39 523i touring manual ratio 3.23 best
The fucking thing your passenger is saying is yeah yeah oh yeah 😂😂😂😂😂

We would love to you but the 540i (aka the Bismarck) is having its timing chain and tensioners done. When its up and running we will get in contact!
Too bad you guys don't keep the car original, barbarians.
Interesting fact, doesn't seem much wrong with the car.
M54 engine is also in the x3. An absolute ball of crap of a car 🤣
I've got the m54 in my e60 too
