- This rare one owner Sportster was gifted from loving father to Vietnam soldier son returning from war. About as stock as one can get for a 60 year old Sportster. Wahoo! Throwback Thursday 28

I love these old Sportsters with the turtle tank and the bench seat. Such a unique look. Definitely on my list of bikes I hope to own one day. You gotta do a follow up on this one when they're done with it.
Oh yes, definitely going to follow this one. Also I'm building a 1970 version of this bike right now. Hope to have it done by fall... Or next spring LOL
@@forgottenmotorcycles have you posted any videos about the Harley you're building? I'd like to see the progress on that one as well. I recently had a chance to buy a nice running example of a 1970 Sporster with the turtle tank and bench seat for what seemed like a good price. I should have done it. : )
I really have not posted much on that bike. I bought the 70 Harley right before I had a accident to put me in the hospital for 10 days. Have slowly got back into that bike recently. I'll try to string together something from the shop in the next few days and posted here. Just a warning it's in pretty rough shape LOL
What a survivor! 😍
Amazing bike.
coolest seat ever. much respect
Beautiful!
and those grips are super cool. is it sold yet?@@forgottenmotorcycles
We've seen the before. Can't wait to see the after once the bike is redone.
Will do our best to follow it through the restoration and running at the end. Wahoo!
I had a 75 XLH. Found a black over white two up seat with the beautiful aluminum grab rail at a swap meet. Never found a turtle tank so I settled for a three gallon king Sportster tank. I traded it for a Norton Atlas. I miss that Ironhead!
Sounds like you had a real good looking bike there. That Atlas would be something to have too!
Ooof that backrest would have to go but I'd leave the rest of the bike as is
I'm with you on that. A heck of a bike, isn't it?
@@forgottenmotorcycles it's beautiful! My dad had a early 2000s 883 Sportster that he rode across the country. Awesome bikes!
You can put those old turtle tanks on the 1973-later style frames but you have to find someplace else to mount your coil (on your bike on the back of the frame neck.
Would love a larger tank on a Sportster.
@@forgottenmotorcycles I think you’ll find the coil on that 1962 mounted up under the seat. The pre-73 Sportster frames had cast seat post sections. There were 2 drilled/tapped holes for a small bracket that held the coil. I went through this same issue almost 40 years ago when I put a turtle tank and one of the big, white Buddy seats on a ‘78 XL I owned at the time. I fabricated a couple small brackets that clamped to the seat post loop and then to the coil.
This machine is a 1962 XLCH, not an XLH Model. XLCH Models were Magneto Ignition fired without that gas tank. That tank is the XLH Turtle tank and the side oil tank is for the XLH Model only, which allows for a battery. XLCH Models used no battery due to the fact that XLCH magnetos required no battery... I remember them new on the dealership floor in 1962. XLCHs used magneto ignition until 1969. After 1969, the XLCH used the XLH battery ignition...
Thanks
He’s missing the front half of the tool box
Will have to check in at RoadRage and see what they've done with it. Wahoo!
No electric start on any Sportsters until 1967.
It's an interesting bike. I'll have to get back that way and see what they did with it. Wahoo!
