- an exercise in musical vulnerability, i'm posting this 13 minutes of solo mbira improvisation with no editing beforehand. took a drive and ended up making a stop at Bald Peak viewpoint and recorded this, some musings of Marenje and Chipembere, favorites of mine. lots of missed notes and melodies that had no idea where they were going, but i think sometimes thats one of the best parts of exploring mbira music, or really music of any kind.
if you're interested in learning more about mbira music and supporting zimbabwean musicians I recommend checking out mbira.org
hope you enjoy ! oh yeah i try to blow a spider off my leg but they didnt wanna leave so i guess they enjoy mbira too
very nice control of the crossing rhythms and melodies in Marenje. i can learn from listening to you
Very soothing and calming. Well done, I don’t suppose you could record a slow demo of how you played this song l could learn to play it the way you do please, thanks.

Unogona wena. Ndafara zvikuru. (You are good. I am thrilled) where did you learn how to play mbira?
Tatenda Maita Basa! I have learned from many different sources, starting first with Erica Azim here in the US, later learning from zimbabwean gwenyambira such as Cosmas Magaya, Patience Munjeri, Musekiwa Chingodza, Caution Shonhai, Kurai Nyamukapa, and others. Thank you for your kind words!

Wow. It gives me so much joy to see white people embracing our sacred mbira. Chennai ose manhanga hapana risina mhodzi
Where did you learn?
This is brilliant.
What tuning is the mbira?
Thank you for the compliment!! This mbira is in Mavembe tuning, I've heard it also called Gandanga tuning. This particular instrument is by Josephat Mandaza.
It’s brilliant mate.
I have a brand new Mavembe tuning here in London but 3 of the keys are loose. I’m looking for a gwenyambira.
